MOVED: Capers joins New England

Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reports that veteran NFL coach Dom Capers has joined the New England Patriots as a special assistant/secondary. He'll replace secondary coach Joel Collier, who apparently has been fired.​

The title suggests that Capers possibly is a consultant, which would mean that he'd be allowed to leave prior to the completion of the team's 2008 season if he is offered work as a defensive coordinator or as a head coach.​

Capers was fired by the Dolphins in January. He'll receive his salary from Miami for the duration of his contract with the team, offset by any earnings in New England.​

Collier, 44, has been an NFL assistant coach since 1990, and he has has two stints with the Pats. He returned after more than a decade in 2005.​

You know, Bum Phillips once said about coach Shula, "He can take hisin and beat yoursin, and take yoursin and beat hisin." Meaning he took a certain group of guys no matter the talent level, and designed the team around what they all do best. Pats coach does the same.....we have so many cast offs on that team, that now all have rings. Now its the coaching staff, well we really dont know much of a impact Capers will have, but you can bet that coach B, will squeeze exactly out of Capers everything he hired him for.

wow i cant believe he is gettin paid as much as he was here. When he resigned his contract he was the highest paid coordiantor in the league. that is a good chunk of money to throw at a consultant/assistant. but it makes sense cause the pats dont rally have a d coordinator anyways.

They're becoming the New England Dolphins. Guess they don't have much of a farm system of their own and have to steal all their players and coaches from us. LOL
