I believe priority #1 should be to move down from pick #14 and acquire additional draft choices. While the team does need high quality starters in a few positions, I would make the case that the lack of overall depth is a more serious issue going into the 2015 season. It seems as players are getting bigger / faster / stronger, they also are more susceptible to injury. It is tough to last an entire 16 game season (plus 4 preseason games, and hopefully / finally postseason games). We are devoid of depth in several positions, namely rb, wr, ol, lb, and cb.

With that said, here are some potential trade possibilities:

1.) Pittsburgh Steelers trade pick #22 (R1), #87 (R3), #121 (R4) #212 (R6) for Miami Dolphins pick #14 (R1) and #191 (R6)

Draft Chart Value:

  • Steelers Trade 993.6 pts for Dolphins 1115 pts (Net pt. loss of 121.4)

Steelers target Bud Dupree, OLB Kentucky with pick #14. The unanticipated retirement of Jason Worilds has left the Steelers with Arthur Moats and James Harrison as the projected starters on the outside. Former 1st round pick Jarvis Jones has yet to break out, necessitating more pass rushers even more.

Dolphins target one of the following: Eric Kendricks ILB, UCLA, Breshad Perriman WR, UCF, Marcus Peters, CB, Washington, Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest, or Jaelen Strong WR, Arizona State

2.) Arizona Cardinals trade pick #24 (R1), #86 (R3), #198 (R6) and G Jonathan Cooper for Miami Dolphins pick #14 (R1) and DE Dion Jordan

Draft Chart Value:

  • [*=1]Cardinals Trade 912.2 pts for Dolphins 1100 pts (Net pt. loss of 187.8), + player value

Cardinals target Todd Gurley, RB Georgia or Melvin Gordon, RB Wisconsin with pick #14. Free-agent addition Mike Iupati will help the offensive line with run blocking, but the Cardinals need bolster their running game by adding a tier one running back. Dion Jordan given a fresh start as a OLB in a 3-4 scheme, Cardinals need edge rushers.

Cooper ended up in coach Bruce Arians' doghouse last summer and was beaten out by Ted Larsen and Paul Fanaika for the left and right guard jobs, respectively. A fresh start in guard-needy Miami may serve him well. Dolphins target one of the following: Eric Kendricks ILB, UCLA, Breshad Perriman WR, UCF, Marcus Peters, CB, Washington, Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest, or Jaelen Strong WR, Arizona State

3.) Dallas Cowboys trade pick #27 (R1), #60 (R2) for Miami Dolphins pick #14 (R1)

Draft Chart Value:

  • [*=1]Cowboys Trade 980 pts for Dolphins 1100 pts (Net pt. loss of 120)

Cowboys target Todd Gurley, RB Georgia or Melvin Gordon, RB Wisconsin with pick #14. Dallas is going to have one of the best run-blocking lines in the NFL next season, if not the best. The Cowboys don't need a dancer, they need a player who will get downhill fast and turn a crease into a big run because he's so hard to get to the ground when he hits the second level. Gurley or Gordon can do that. Dallas added Darren McFadden, but he can't be relied on for the long run.

Dolphins target one of the following: Eric Kendricks ILB, UCLA, Breshad Perriman WR, UCF, Marcus Peters, CB, Washington, Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest, or Jaelen Strong WR, Arizona State

Anyway, just some stream of consciousness thoughts I felt like sharing. Hopefully Miami will find a trade partner on Draft Day to move back and pick up a pick or two.

Before anything, trading Dion Jordan could possibly be the worst move made. It costs more on our cap to trade him plus if we traded him we keep his cap. Other than that this is a very nice and insightful post. I'm not interested in Perriman at all.
