Saw some interesting discussion in one of the threads here about Ingold in the offense moving forward and it got me thinking. Generally speaking - i.e. not ingold specifically - do you like the idea of the offense moving forward featuring a fullback? Why/Why not? Not a popular position these days but there are teams like the 9ers that implement it to some effect.

I don’t want to see a fullback in our offense but Malik does not excite me at all. He’s a decent piece but as a fourth WR
I think there’s more to be tapped with him, but we’ll see I guess. He was pretty much Virginia’s entire offense a couple years ago, so my opinion is based on that, but you could very well be right

He’s got some shiftiness but just doesn’t have the speed especially for a short WR
He reminds me Devone Bess, only Bess put up superior numbers compared to what little Malik has given us.

If rolling with s full back why not cut ties with Ingold's ridiculous contract and run 12 and 22 personnel with Ollie Gordon. At least then we would have a fullback that's more of a receiver threat and one that would be able to have to be accounted for in motion like the 49ners use Kyle Juszczyk.

This thought had occurred to me as well. I'm trying to think who would fit this profile that would be available.
Probably not a popular opinion but Julian Hill's skillset is ideal to play H back. I'm of the philosophy if they are still on a cheap contract, that they should at least get a look especially with coaches they stress the importance of the little things being so important, that was absolutely missing with the last regime.

An H-back makes way more sense in a modern offense. You get the blocking help without tipping your hand, plus flexibility in motion, pass pro, and the short passing game. A traditional fullback just limits spacing and predictability too much.
That's how the 49ners use juszczyk, yet Ingold is making money real close to his, and we never sent him in motion, just a stupid contract.

In listening to Kyle Crabbs, I believe Miami will continue with a fullback. Personally, I think the Dolphins could use a tight end instead to essentially do the same thing, and save on Ingold's contract.
