Moving Jonah Savaiinaea To RG This OS Make Sense?

What is a good back up plan, spending a 2nd or 3rd round pick on his replacement or signing his replacement in FA? Yea no thanks, that would be giving up on him.

Jonah is the least of the lolphins problems right now. He will improve and staying healthy is critical, which he did.
dunno how you can be so confident? it seems to me the data/tape indicates one should be concerned.

anyway we disagree. fine. gm you bets on him, gm me is concerned, and will have other options ready to play if he is not cutting it, assuming GM me is not tanking the year and trying to ruin ewers. in that case, jonah plays no matter what!

I'm just saying it's way too early to give up on the kid, he's literally 21 right now. Yes he struggled this year but he has the talent to improve, we need to develop these young guys because we suck!

Should have been playing RG since day 1, especially in this scheme.

Never fails though. It seems like whoever is coaching in Miami lately always wants to convert or play out of position.

Jonah is, was, and always should of been the RG/RT in this system and in general

i understand. i am not saying give up. he should get a chance. i am just not betting on it. hope i am wrong, there are exceptions, so maybe he is one of them.

This is also why I was saying last draft to not worry about scheme and just draft the best dang Guard. Most likely, or hopefully McDaniel and this scheme would be leaving so don't draft for the scheme, line wise

Players who were serviceable to decent stink here. College players who were good stunk here.
Players who stunk here have gone else where to do better.

This scheme is the problem for the O line, plus the coaching. Get rid of this BS scheme, coach Jonah will be alright.

That's ridiculous, you don't know more about this system than McQueasy and neither do I.

It's a QB driven league, Jonah playing on the left or right didn't make a difference, our b*** a** QB did and all those who supported him, like McQueasy.

Interesting. When you actually realize what the RG and LG do in this system .... Then realize the only reason Jonah was playing LG originally was due to them signing a G coming off an achilles injury forcing him to only be able to play RG in this system. To then leave Jonah at LG for "Continuity" maybe then you'll learn a thing or 2.

But first things first. Educate yourself on the responsibilities of the LG in this system. Then go look at Jonah's scouting report. Then you tell me.... Should Jonah have been playing LG in this system?

Reminds me of when they tried to make Reggie Bush a North/South power runer. Or Fiedler a pocket passer, or Hill a redzone FADE specialist. This team, no matter the coach, always does the opposite of what should be done for certain players or positions.

Tate Ratledge doesn't really fit the system the Dolphins use. I know a lot people look at a name and oh should have picked that player. That doesn't apply especially with lineman. The Dolphins linemen are all agile and quick, its the reason why guys like Brewer excel with his team but get cut by the Ravens.

If you want to complain about someone they should have taken, look at players like (5th round) Marcus Mbow who fit the system that McSmurf runs.
What do you mean about Ratledge not fitting the system?

The zone blocking scheme that McDaniel runs requires symmetry between the guard positions. So no, there’s not really any difference between LG and RG in this scheme in terms of what they are asked to do. The idea that he’s better or worse at one OG position in this wide zone scheme is just silly. You could make the case that you want your weaker run blocking OG on the side you run to less, or your weaker pass blocking OG on the side you roll out to less. Bottom line, he’s just not a good player at ANY line position. Nothing to do with right vs left.

This is why I draft Mauigoa - stick him in at RG and when AJax inevitably gets hurt, he slides out to RT.

Jonah is more of a project than I thought he would be but I haven't given up on him.

Regardless, we need help at either/or guard positions.
I was curious about Mauigoa and I haven't seen him play, but looks the part and is the highest rated tackle so I checked his scouting report., then came across his NFL comparison 😱.. no bueno if accurate :

Just going to touch on a couple things..

1 - Bleacher report. Please don't take offense but no thanks.

2 - I've watched him plenty and he's had his way with a fair share of top competition, especially this year.

His best fit is probably inside at RG but the fact that he can play RT is a boon.

Let's watch him closely Thursday evening.

Edit: adding highlights from the previous season. I think he played even better this year. Pretty darned good for a very young fellow.

He is the scouting report on him and it clearly shows on the field. He is not a terrible player, but not an ideal zone blocking lineman.

Tate Ratledge, a 6-foot-6, 308-pound offensive guard from Georgia, is a highly regarded prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft.
He played as a three-year starter for the Georgia Bulldogs, earning First-Team All-American honors in 2024 and two First-Team All-SEC selections in 2023 and 2024.
Ratledge is known for his physicality, strength, and high football IQ and is well suited for a power gap offense.
His athletic testing numbers were elite, though they did not always translate fully on film. **that means he is lumbering or stiff**
Ratledge has a history of injuries, including knee and ankle issues in 2024 and a foot injury in 2021 that caused him to miss the entire 2021 season

I mean, it only makes sense to try to switch him back to the right side. Played there his entire time in college. Bright idea to make him flip all of a sudden...
I trust you are not suggesting a coaching error.

I agree with the bleacher report, although there was another mock with the same player comparison. Probably people being lazy and linking the Samoan connection.

I liked that tape. I was curious to see how he handled speed and edge rushers because I figured like Jonah strength and mauling isn't an issue.
He looked good handling the counter moves and speed moves from the edges. Also nice that he can get to the second level.
Overall I like this tape. My main concern is if he pops up both on Thursday and during the combine he might raise his stock.
ESPN has him going 3rd to Arizona and is picking Fano. CBS has him 14 and Fano 15.
CBS has us picking Sadiq the TE, lol. I'd be ironic that now that I don't feel we should get a TE but rather improve the line we go and get a TE.

This is why I wouldn’t judge any young players, the coaching staff is completely clueless. Not only do you take a rookie that played mostly tackle in college and transition him to guard which is fine but still a learning curve but then you throw him on the opposite side of the line. It’s just dumb bad coaching.

Maybe he would have sucked anyways but the coaching staff certainly did no favors.

On the opposite end with chop and the rookie DT’s while they looked solid in the run game, weavers pass rush scheme might be the worst in the league. No creativity or disguising blitzes, stunts rarely used but useless when done. Chubb and Sieler and Phillips while here spent most of the year free lancing.

Coaches don’t have a clue yet they’ll be back next year to further ruin development
That's why cleaning the house and getting McD out is a must.
That's a lot at stake by keeping him for one more season. Even if we aren't competing, we need to properly develop these players. Why waste a year of developing if we are going to kick McD to the curb next season ?
We either keep rolling with him ( hopefully not ) or we send him home this off season.
