I write for a major British media outlet and was asking a few people around my department about it.

First of all due to the speed at which it sold out, the consensus is that those who think it's just going to be a showpiece are completely wrong - the typical British sporting fan doesn't go to "showpieces", they nail their colours to the mast. What I'm trying to say is that if we start watching a sport, we pick a team straight away.

Anyway, the most interesting point that was raised was by a guy who has covered the NFL for various national papers for 20 years. Through his work he meets a lot of guys who play for the various university teams over here and he also organises trips for hardcore fans to games. He said that of the trips he organises, 75%+ are for Dolphins fans. He estimates that in the U.K., the Dolphins are the most supported team but that if you just consider the hardcore fans (i.e. the ones who have watched for years, probably played, probably travelled to for games) the number is even higher.

I can't make up some magic figure, but from the information I've heard I would say Wembley Stadium will be full of Dolphins fans.

I totally agree with that. That's all I've been hearing from some of my U.K. friends. It will be a madhouse there.

As i predicted. i will stick with my original prediction of about 65'000 Fin Fans.

Sorry for all who are season ticket holders and have the luxery of going to Phin games (I have yet to see one), but if the crowds in Wembly outnumber those at Joe Robbie, that is a bit of embarresment.

That being said, glad to know the phins will most-likely have the luxeries of a home game, even if it is clear across the pond

yup. i agree with that, and as i said, more support than a regular game in Fin Stadium! It annoys me when i travel all the way to get to Dolphin Stadium, and see thousands of empty seats. closet fans will start to show up when we make the playoffs i guess!

Isn't it frustrating to see the empty seats at dolphin stadium and be powerless to do anything about it? I know it irritates me.

Not sure if you know (or even missed the poll on the front page) but lots of Dolphin fans don't live in SE Florida..unfortunately.

Not to mention there hasn't been much to cheer for in half a decade. If you remember the same thing happened when we had to play in Arizona, it was mostly Miami fans.

Most of the more popular teams have large fan bases outside of their locale. Unfortunately, Miami's local fan base seems to be a bit finicky. I think is has more to do with the laid back culture of S.Fl. Kind of like how LA teams have some of the same issues. Both places have a lot to do outside of local sports teams. The problem is that if the teams aren't doing great, fans lose interest for other entertainment.

Meanwhile, Buffalo, KC, Green Bay have very little to do outside of their teams. Probably not a coincidence that all three franchises kill in attendance.

It irritates the heck out of me too. I don't understand it. The Dolphins are one of the best franchises in the NFL. We have a good owner. I think one of the reasons is simply the damn blazing sun and heat in some of the home games. One of these days, maybe we can put a really nice retractable roof on Dolphin stadium. Leave it open most of the time ... unless it's a sunny day and it's over 85 degrees or so ... or raining or whatever.

Once the Arizona Cardinals got their new stadium with a retractable roof (and retractable field), they started to sell out. I think they're sold out already for the 2007 season. They used have a lot of no-shows, now it's packed.

Gotta admit, a lot of the people just can't handle the heat. South Florida is just as far south as Houston, New Orleans and Arizona and they have stadiums with a roof. The Cowboys will soon have a billion dollar stadium with a retractable roof for 2009. Us hardcore fans can handle the sun and heat, but a lot of the older folks and families with kids can't. Some of them don't go even though they have tickets ... and they don't try to sell or give away their tickets apparently. We have sellouts but people just don't show up.

When you hear the noise you will want to play there every home game...

I can't wait :woohoo:

Your right. and its a shame. Even on sell out matches, theres thousands of empty seats. im not sure if anyone has the stadium records of attendance for the last few seasons at dolphin stadium but i know it could be better, maybe they should stop showing live games on TV in South Florida till like a day or 2 after the match.

the fact the fins havent produced the right result over the past few years, you may want to remember when we shut the pats out last season!!!!!!!!! games like this are what i live for, it shouldndt matter if were on 2-8..... the team we all love and support needs us. and we can help them improve with noise factor and attendance IMO....

:ninja: GO FINS! Im sure the stadium roof over Dolphin stadium will be in the next phase of Waynes plans to improve our house

This is dolphins stadium last season at the Titans game. Annoyed me that i traveled from London, and people that have this tradition and oppertunity in there own back yard cant make the effort. look at all the empty seats!!!:fire:

Its a Shame. Hope the figures improve. ALWAYS BELEIVE!

I think there were a lot of empty seats because A) The Titans are not that great of a team; and B) It was a hot day....but if I lived in Florida I would be there. Maybe it is time to build a roof over the stadium? The Broncos have had sell outs for pretty much every game the past 30 years here in Colorado...but it pretty comfy outside here in September.

SOD THAT, not going to the game cos the apponent is 'not a great team' Now thats where the problem lies.
