Mueller was in Seattle for 17 years...the last 5 (1995-1999) as Vice President/Football Operations. He was director of player personel from 1990 until he got elavated to Vice President.

Notable draft picks during this time:
1990: Cortez Kennedy,
Terry Wooden, Robert Blackmon, Chris Warren.
1991:
John Kasay, Michael Sinclair
1992:
Ray Roberts, Michael Bates
1993:
Rick Mirer, Dean Wells, Michael McCrary, Antonio Edwards
1994:
Sam Adams, Kevin Mawae, Lamar Smith, Larry Whigham
1995:
Joey Galloway, Christian Fauria
1996:
Pete Kendall, Phillip Daniels
1997:
Shawn Springs, Walter Jones, Itula Mili
1998:
Anthony Simmons, Todd Weiner, Ahman Green, Bobby Shaw
1999: Lamar King,
Antonio Cochran

He went to the Saints as
General Manager of Football Operations from 2000-2001. He was NFL Executive of the Year in 2000.

Notable draft picks during this time:

2000:
Darren Howard, Chad Morton, Mark Bulger, Michael Hawthorne
2001:
Deuce McAllister, Sedrick Hodge

Those are just the draft picks. He made some VERY smart trades and free agent signings during his time in Seattle and New Orleans (he FLEECED Wanny twice.)

I believe Randy was also part of the Saints organization in 2002, when the Ricky trade was made. I believe that he was fired after that draft.

The draft picks he was responsible for in New Orleans:

2000

2nd - Darren Howard, DE, Kansas State
4th - Terrelle Smith, FB, Arizona State
5th - Tutan Reyes, OT, Mississippi
5th - Austin Wheatley, TE, Iowa
5th - Chad Morton, RB, Southern California
6th - Marc Bulger, QB, West Virginia
6th - Michael Hawthorne, DB, Purdue
6th - Sherrod Gideon, WR, Southern Mississippi
7th - Kevin Houser, TE, Ohio State

2001

1st - Deuce McAllister, RB, Mississippi
3rd - Sedrick Hodge, LB, North Carolina
3rd - Kenny Smith, DT, Alabama
4th - Moran Norris, FB, Kansas
5th - Onomoe Ojo, WR, California-Davis
6th - Mitch White, OT, Oregon State
7th - Ennis Davis, DT, Southern California

2002

1st - Donte Stallworth, WR, Tennessee
1st - Charles Grant, DE, Georgia
2nd - LeCharles Bentley, C, Ohio State
3rd - James Allen, LB, Oregon State
4th - Keyou Craver, CB, Nebraska
5th - Mel Mitchell, DB, Western Kentucky
6th - J.T. O'Sullivan, QB, California-Davis
6th - John Gilmore, TE, Penn State
7th - Derrius Monroe, DE, Virginia Tech

didnt he get like a top 10 pick from the bears or jets for mirer:lol:

Which makes me ask-Is this a good draft record? I recognise some very good names in these drafts but how does this history stack up with other GM's? I am not saying I am down on him at all and have been very high on him actually. I would just like to hear some opinions.

Edit-It seems he has drafted well on the o line-Kevin Mawae,Walter Jones, and LeCharles Bentley

yea i agree but seems like they were all 1st day picks. saban is alreayd doin the same if u look at it, if not better. so whats teh big deal? wow bulger wiht a 6th whippppy! thats only 1 2nd day pick that is big now.

Yes his record is pretty good. In addition to the three linemen you pointed out, he has a number of defensive picks that were good like Cortez Kennedy, Mike McCrary, Mike Sinclair, Sam Adams, Phillip Daniels, Shawn Springs, Darren Howard, Charles Grant, and Anthony Simmons. All were good to very good players at some point in their career...dare I even say all of them have reached "pro bowl caliber" at some point in their career.

On offense Chris Warren is good, Donte Stallworth is turning out decent, Marc Bulger is a good QB, Christian Fauria, Joey Galloway, Deuce McAllister, and Ahman Green all turned out good...in addition to the linemen you mentioned (plus Ray Roberts, Pete Kendall, and Todd Weiner, all pretty good).

If you look at it, he's drafted good players at every position on offense, and he's drafted good players at most positions on defense (especially the DL). He seems to have the least luck with DBs with only Shawn Springs worthy of note, but lets be honest here Nick Saban knows him some DBs.

Having Mueller has the GM makes this offseason a more exciting one. I expect some big trades happening and maybe even trading up for the #1 overall pick.

Brought in Aaron Brooks and Jeff Blake at QB while @ New Orleans via FA.

No, he's nothing special @ the draft. For the most part, the biggest names you see from those lists were made when he had high picks and were no brainers. Otherwise, even a blind squirrel, blah, blah.

Yeah he doesn't have the best reputation. Saban will still be able to rely on his personal knowledge of the SEC and college players in general for the next two years so we should be ok for a couple of years. After that I wouldn't mind getting rid of Mueller

Yep, he was there and orchestrated that trade for New Orleans. My question is though ...

How many atta-boys does it take (i.e., the drafting of some big names on both offense and defense) to overcome the one big oh-****ter in Rick Mirer? :D
