By all accounts Williams has really bought into Saban’s program. He appears happy in Miami and has privately suggested that he would prefer not to leave. Even the perceived uneasiness between himself and Mueller seems to have passed.

“When he got here, the very first day he got back, we hooked up in the hallway and we had a good laughâ€Â, Mueller recalled about their ironic reunion. To that end, Mueller believes he and Williams have put the past behind them.

Does this create conditions for a compromise between Williams and the Dolphins, a compromise that would keep the enigmatic running back in Miami for the rest of his career?

“If we can find a way to keep them both, I’m all for itâ€Â, declared Mueller. “Had the Dolphins not given us that type of compensation package, he’d probably be in New Orleans right now.â€Â

Very good article:

Ricky and Ronnie likely beyond 2005

im all for ricky staying... let them split carries and do some things to confuse defenses... who cares where ronnie was picked, he was picked to help our football team win, not just to dominate stat sheets... bo jackson was the number 1 pick in his draft and he split time with marcus allen when he was with the raiders...

i see no problem with keeping them both

That would be amazing. A running attack for years to come. Im all for it.

long live Ricky! these two combined could cause some real damage.

Gosh, just like the old folks say. Somethings just all work themselves out.

Dolphans we paid a hefty price last year (shoot for the last 20 years). This just
gives me the warm & fuzzies. Amazing how things are starting to work out for us.

Ricky & Ronny & Sammy & Travis - some teams are trying out the elderly at quartback, some teams are running the ball with banged up middle aged men, and wahoo look at us. Can I get an amen?

that would be great, how cap friendly would the deal be for ricky?

I'm positive that it will not only be cap friendly, but it will probably break the record as far as the amount of safeguards in it.

Funny you should post this. I was about to start a related thread today over a theory that occurred to me last night.
It is this: I think Ricky WANTS to just be a backup RB. What if that's the deal between him and Saban? Ricky comes in to take some of the load off Ronnie 5-8 carries a game, and will step-up in case of injury. In return Ricky doesn't have to take a beating, he won't be pressured into having to 'carry" the franchise, he doesn't pay back what he owes, and still has a couple million in his pocket every year to maintain his lifestyle in Mia?

That could theoretically go on for years, with all parties quite happy, couldn't it? He could be to Brown what Kenneth Davis was to Thurman Thomas or what Lamont Jordan had been to Curtis Martin.
I think it could work, because while Ricky has admitted he's short in the passion dept for the NFL, he has proved he will give it 100 percent when he does in fact have to line up on the field. Even this preseason he showed that.

I have a feeling that Ricky isn't going anywhere. I don't think he wants to be a number 1 franchise back and his happy with the situation as it is -- for now anyway.

I'm not sure about that not wanting to be a franchise back stuff.

Ricky is money hungry and right now he has a huge thirst for cash. He saw his best times financially as a primary ball carrier and I wouldn't doubt one second that is the position he want back to live that luxury no money worries life again.
I have a feeling that he will get traded sometime next year to a team that really needs a new RB.

Ricky's already been quoted as saying he doesnt care about the money and that he wants to stay here.

The issue is not any future money we give him as much as it is the 8.6 million dollar judgement the Dolphins have hanging over his head. He's not interested in Bentley's, *******, and ice. He wants the freedom that comes with the money. If he has to pay that 8.6 million back, he's ruined financially.

He's got a good situation in Miami for what he wants. He isnt going to take the pounding of a starting role, or even on a team that is going to focus on the run. He's in a city he knows and likes, and he can make enough money to be set for the rest of his life if he's wiser with his money.
