Multiple free agent receivers reportedly interested in Dolphins

I know we’re on the uprise but free agents wanna go where they’re going to get paid and they know we have needs and we have draft picks and we have money to spend so I don’t look too much into this.

I do think people like what we’re doing here but money is the driving factor

Looks like slot adds to me...I’m pretty much a no tbanks for what they cost. Hilton is older somewhat breaking down. Jones Id like but is he a real needle mover? Doubt it. Ju ju is a strong candidate for worst free agent contract in football this year and doesn’t get much separation anyways

100% This. The outside receiver class of free agents is a lot better than the slot class of free agents. The problem that Barry states is we have a cap issue trying to land a big fish. I don’t really see us as big players this year.

My wish list:
Godwin #1 target and may cost a lot. Would do a similar strucutured deal that A. Cooper got. Lower cap hits but a 2+1+1+1 deal would be great and Godwin would still get paid handsomely for his time here
Golladay
Robinson- Still young enough to be in prime for few years more

Don't be surprised if JuJu Smith Schuster is one of the free agents who wants to come to Miami. Don't forget he is half Samoan and has a connection with Tua via the Samoan community. He can also probably see the obvious that Big Ben is showing his age in Pittsburgh - looked awful at the end of the season, just slinging and hoping.

if they looking for inside guys in free agency then they might be counting on Preston as a boundary. I’m just sayin.

or they may be looking for inside in free agency and outside in the draft which is possible. Likely would push preston to a more ideal 4th wr option.

but to spend big or real money on inside guys not named Chris Godwin I’m a major no on. And he’s gonna be expensive too

While I think it’s fairly obvious that WR is easily the Offensive unit Miami needs to upgrade the most- especially when it comes to developing Tua, I also think Miami has positioned themselves to make the WR overhaul pretty quick and painless. I could easily see a scenario similar to this play out:

- Miami signs a vet WR who provides an immediate upgrade to the WR room without breaking the bank. For the sake of this exercise, let’s say it’s Marvin Jones.

- Instead of cutting one, or both of the WR’s that opted out of last season due to covid, Miami should strongly consider cutting Grant and keeping both Wilson and Hurns and if they’re searching for cap relief to chase other FA’s, look at trimming payroll somewhere else. For me, it’s pretty simple: Wilson is a prime candidate to be cut, but his salary isn’t too crazy, and IMO his skill set brings the EXACT type of WR that can help Tua look really good. Coming out of the slot, he’s almost always going to be a speed mismatch, he’s crafty, and Miami can move him around and do a ton of things with him. I’m actually REALLY hoping Miami decides to give Wilson a look with Tua before deciding to cut bait. As far as Hurns, again, his salary is not a back breaker and he certainly offers a better option than the WR’s 3 through 6 that are currently on our depth chart.

- The perfect draft scenario happens and Miami is presented with the chance to trade down a few spots and still be able to grab either Smith or Chase. I go back and forth on which one is the better option and I feel strongly that both are future NFL superstars.

None of anything I’ve listed is too far fetched from happening and while it certainly won’t turn out EXACTLY like this, I think it will be something close to it. So now after 1 FA signing, a draft trade-down and deciding to hold on to 2 WR’s we currently have under contract, our WR room would look like this:

-Smith or Chase
-Devante Parker
-Marvin Jones
-Albert Wilson
-Preston Williams
-Allen Hurns

That’s a pretty dynamic group of WR’s and gives us proper depth should both Parker and Williams continue to be injury prone. I didn’t list another rookie WR, but I’d be willing to bet Miami drafts another WR in rounds 3 thru 5 which would allow Miami to cut somebody like Hurns if the rookie looks solid during camp, or Miami could elect to roll into the season with 7 WR’s on the roster.
