I dont like how people are coming up with all these reasons why they know we arent going to select a player and know we are going select someone but since everyone is doing it, i figured i would give it a shot. lol.

Well look at us trying so hard to get Calvin Pace a SOLB. Why would we try and spend all that money when we have JT and JP. Alot of people say the only reason we wont draft Chris Long is cuz we have JT and JP. Hhmmmmmm maybe we are still looking for a SOLB. Chris Long.lol

Here is my theory:
Chris Long is the only player worthy of the #1 overall pick and the money that comes with it. Next would be Jake Long but many scout evaluators and analysis say he is only a RT and doesnt have the footwork to play LT. 50 million is WAY too much for a guy who might only be a RT. Next is Dorsey but he would play DE and we have Starks (who is gonna play DE and holliday. Dorsey's injury history will take him out of #1 overall consideration. Matt Ryan is next. Paying 50 million to an unproven QB, which is the position with the highest bust facter out of any position is WAY WAY too much. Nfl Live today said he has toooo many question marks to be a franchise QB. Vernon Gholston is an option but he tends to run himself out of plays at times (trust me i am an ohio state fan and i have seen all of his games), he has great talent but is ranked lower than Chris Long by everyone i have see and we wouldnt pass up on Chris Long for Gholston.

Chris Long did amazing at the combine working out as a DE and at his pro day he worked out as a LB and did absolute amazing and showed he will be a good SOLB.

highlights of combine AND at the end of the video is highlights of him at DE and OLB during the season, check it out.

Another Thoery-
Franchise QBs and franchise LTs are hard to find. They just do not come around every year. Wouldn't it be smart to pick one up this year because we have the #1 pick?
I like Chris Long and all but pass rushing SOLBs come around quite often in the first round and not so high. Example, Ware, Gholston, Shawne Merriman, Manny Lawson.

your right there arent too many franchises comin out but we would spend too much money on just one player.he might be worth it but he needs to prove himself.but i still think we should get him cause of his skill

Well said, I really hope J.Long is the guy for us at LT. I know some really want Ryan to be the QB of the future but it would be nice to have alot of the pieces in place if Beck fails. Big Ben and Cutler were guys ready for the NFL and easily stepped in because of the talent around them and we could do the same 2 years down the road. Ryan could be in that same boat if he falls to Baltimore.

I agree with you. But Matt Ryan is no Peyton Manning and Jake Long is no Orlando Pace. Both of these guys have serious question marks about how their games will translate to the pros and aren't considered franchise QB and LT by many scouts. With that said, I still think that I would take Jake Long first overall. His run blocking is too good for him to be a complete bust IMO.

Who are these evaluators that people keeping talking about that list J. Long as a RT? I've looked all over and I haven't seen it. I read it on here everyday.

i think mike mayock was one of them but i heard them at the combine talking about them.

yea ryan could be a GREAT QB also remember our last great QB was marino so it would be smart to get another QB.we got john beck but he is just an alright he just needs more time.i mean hes good but not great

so just cuz they go #1 means they are franchise QB or LT. no alot of people say JL is a RT anyways and ALOT of analysis say Ryan cant be considered a franchise QB because of all his Question marks

plus what are you saying about ware, merriman not being drafted high...they were 11 and 12th in 2005. thats really high.

No he didn't. Mayock never said J. Long is a RT. He did say that Long's footwork isn't as good as Joe Thomas' but there isn't that big a difference. He also stated that Long's run blocking is better.

From ESPN to NFL network and many internet sites, analysts say that J. Long isn't as good with his footwork as Joe Thomas but the difference is negligible. Everyone says that J. Long has the strength, hand technique, and run blocking ability to be a dominant LT. They say his footwork is really good but not great. He's compared more favorably to Joe Thomas than Robert Gallery. Gallery doesn't possess nearly as much tools as J. Long.

at the combine he rated his players top board per position and listed there strengths and weakness's and his weakness was that he is a RT that possibly could play LT

he also listed as one of his strengths was that he would probably be a Pro Bowl RT

What comes first? The chicken or the egg? Do we pick a highly rated QB who is available this year and build a team around him or do we build a team this year to so our future QB has the best chance to succeed? Everyone has different points of views. We have Beck but the jury is still out on him. It's a bit of a conundrum. Good luck to Parcells & Co in figuring this out.

I say let's draft him and find out.:d-day:

Don't know. Someone here decides that he is a RT and it catches on like brush fire. So now a lot think he is a RT.

That's my point. It is probably a theory going around the FO. As much as we like Chris Long, do we use a #1 on a pass rushing OLB? A very good pass rushing OLB would most likely come by next year at top 10-15. That is where we could reasonably be expected to pick next year. Therefore we can wait another year to get an OLB.
