I can't watch the game, not on Direct tv until tomorrow, so I can't speak on tonights game yet.

My biggest concern about Gus, other than his age, is the way he throws the ball. Last week I was watching the game and I noticed that he threw the ball really high. Kind of reminded me of a punt. He was doing this on most of his throws. My issue with it, is that the hight gives the defender more time to get under the ball. It applies to our receivers as well. But given all the ints that happened last year, it kind of has me concerned. Espically considering AJ never really had a fair chance to compete this year.

Thoughts?

That's just it, isn't it. I brought it up as soon as Gus was named the starter - if Gus was really going to be the Week 1 starter as of almost two weeks ago, then there never was a competition. Gus was handed the job. And look - he's just not any good at it.

This is aggravating me, and I think Nick had better right his wrong before we face Denver.

I think AJ has had a fair chance to compete here, but that's beside the point.

But yea, Gus definately seems to be overthrowing the deep ball.

The reason I say it is an unfair competition is because Gus had an advantage going into camp having know the system from Minn. IMO for it to be truley fair, AJ, Sage, and Brock should be all getting more reps in practices and games to acclimate to the new O. I'm not saying that Saban is biased like our previous coach...

It's football. It's not supposed to be fair, the best guy starts. AJ had the chemistry with the team which should make up for some inexperience.

Well, apparently it didn't, since Gus has given absolutely no indication that he's the best guy and he's still starting.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, Gus and A.J. were getting roughly the same amount of snaps in practice with the first unit. You can't get any more fair than that.

A.J. is simply not showing enough in practice to make Nick and Scott have confidence in him. Even the players have rallied around Gus in the competition.

I don't care what the players do. These guys are supposed to be professional athletes, not professional friends. They don't have a say in who starts at quarterback.

And I put a hell of a lot more stock in games than in practice. You'd be an idiot not to.

Yea, you're obviously a much better judge than Saban.

I'm basing my opinions on the four games I've seen. I played sports at many different levels for 20 years, and I can tell you there are guys who play substantially better in a practice or game situation. Why that is I don't know, but Frerotte is now sporting a solid 59.7 QB Rating. Maybe he's a "practice player." As you might expect, that does absolutely nothing to win real football games.

Please explain to me where I'm wrong.

Anybody want to address my original issue of too much air under the ball?

I was watching it tonight on the NFL No Huddle and he wasn't putting enough air under the ball. To his credit, he did have a long bomb go through Chambers hands, but other than that, he stunk.

I'll have to watch tomorrow. Like I said, I was basing this on what I saw last week.
