According to Alex Marvez, as of 12/3/06:
"The Dolphins have $91.2 million counting against the NFL's 2007 salary cap of $109 million. That figure is comprised of the cap figures of 35 players currently under contract and 'dead money' that counts toward players no longer with the team. A cap number is generally comprised of base salary, roster bonuses and a prorated portion of signing bonus."

Release
· OG – Jeno James (‘07 cap number: $4 mil; signed through 2009)
· DE – Kevin Carter (‘07 cap number: $6.48 mil; signed through 2009)
· K – Olindo Mare (’07 cap number: $2.1 mil; signed through 2009)
· QB – Joey Harrington (’07 cap number: $3.5 mil; signed through 2008)
Restructure/Extend
· OG/C – Seth McKinney (currently signed through 2007 with ’07 cap number of $4 mil)
Sign
· ERFA: LS – John Denney
· ERFA: DT – Kevin Vickerson
· RFA: SS – Yeremiah Bell - talented enought to be an every game starter for the rest of his playing career; I'd like to see a long-term contract
· RFA: QB – Cleo Lemon
· RFA: P – Donnie Jones
· RFA: WR – Wes Welker - should remain a dependable WR, and should stay as our kickoff and punt returner I hope
· UFA: FB – Darian Barnes
· UFA: DE – David Bowens - a very valuable role player we need back IMO
· UFA: QB – Jeff Garcia - we need insurance at QB, but I'm still banking on C-pep's health
· UFA: DT – Vonnie Holliday - will also be able to line up at DE, which may be necessary if Kevin Carter's $6.48 mil cap number renders him gone; his versatility will allow our plethora of talented young DT's to get some playing time
· UFA: CB – Michael Lehan
· UFA: RB – Travis Minor
· UFA: CB – Will Poole
· UFA: OT/OG – Eric Steinbach - I want this guy to become our franchise LT, and based on my other projected transactions, it would be financially possible to make it happen
· UFA: LB – Ben Taylor - started for the Browns two years ago, but a back up for GB this past year; an experienced LB to compete with a young guy to fill Donnie Spragan's departure
· UFA: S – Chad Williams - this guy has been a playmaker since he's played his first game in the NFL back with the Ravens 5 years ago; he'll be a valuable backup DB with Jason Allen (who still has tons of talent I believe); our secondary does not have a real star, but also no player is a weakness... with a strong front 7, which I believe we will have, we don't need a "shutdown" DB; instead, just solid players all the way around, and valuable role players like Chad Williams
Draft
· 1: DT – Alan Branch - Michigan .........the #1 DT on every board; supposedly has it all
· 2: LB – Rufus Alexander - Oklahoma .........physical, athletic, and (very important to the Dolphins defense) provides pass-rush ability from the LB spot
· 3: K – Mason Crosby – Colorado ..........a reliable kicker who won't cost the $2 mil that Mare would
· 4: C/OG – Dan Mozes – West Virginia ..........athletic and hard-nosed interior lineman
· 6: QB – Isaiah Stanback – Washington ...........coming off a season-ending injury; very strong arm and great atleticism; I truly believe he will be one of the great steals of the entire draft, wherever he goes
· 7: DE – Mel Purcell – Hawaii ........6'5, 265 lbs, great frame, and a consistent pass rusher (except for in '05 when he played most of the season with an elbow injury)
· UDFA: LB – Troy Collavo – UTEP ........most likely will not be drafted; a projected ILB; hard hitter with limited athleticism, but this guy has stood out every time I've seen UTEP play

Comments:
-the offensive personnel is essentially the same as last year, but with an upgrade on the left side of the O-line in a healthy Seth McKinney (who would compete with former starter Bennin Anderson for the starting LG spot) and projected free-agent signing Eric Steinback, who I have moving from LG to LT, a position that at 6'6, 290 lbs, many teams projected him at coming out of college. I still believe, like I have maintained since Culpepper's struggles, that this offense is basically set persennel-wise; we just need solid QB play, which I think we all hope can come from Culpepper. But hence, the Jeff Garcia signing as a bit of insurance
-I don't believe we need an upgrade at WR; we have depth there, and the money is already invested in Chambers; He has the ability to be the #1, I think he's proven that in previous years; I think the drops will always be there, like they are with many other #1 WR's; I still believe he has the explosivesness and route-running ability to get open as often as a #1 should, and the leaping and coordination ability to continupusly win one-on-one matchups; things just did not fall in place last year, offensively, but the personnel is there I believe
-lastly, I go to Georgia Tech, and I just wanna say that I hope Chan Gailey becomes our HC, and if he does I wouldn't be surprised to see us draft Reggie Ball in the late rounds or sign him as a UDFA; He's very limited as a QB and will surely not play QB in the pros, but he's an unbelievably tough player (which he doesn't get nearly enough credit for, especially from Tech fans, most of whom think he sucks), and he also has just enough athleticism I believe to be successful; I'd like to see him on the practice squad as a WR or S
Any comments?
