According to Alex Marvez, as of 12/3/06:

"The Dolphins have $91.2 million counting against the NFL's 2007 salary cap of $109 million. That figure is comprised of the cap figures of 35 players currently under contract and 'dead money' that counts toward players no longer with the team. A cap number is generally comprised of base salary, roster bonuses and a prorated portion of signing bonus."

Comments:
-the offensive personnel is essentially the same as last year, but with an upgrade on the left side of the O-line in a healthy Seth McKinney (who would compete with former starter Bennin Anderson for the starting LG spot) and projected free-agent signing Eric Steinback, who I have moving from LG to LT, a position that at 6'6, 290 lbs, many teams projected him at coming out of college. I still believe, like I have maintained since Culpepper's struggles, that this offense is basically set persennel-wise; we just need solid QB play, which I think we all hope can come from Culpepper. But hence, the Jeff Garcia signing as a bit of insurance

-I don't believe we need an upgrade at WR; we have depth there, and the money is already invested in Chambers; He has the ability to be the #1, I think he's proven that in previous years; I think the drops will always be there, like they are with many other #1 WR's; I still believe he has the explosivesness and route-running ability to get open as often as a #1 should, and the leaping and coordination ability to continupusly win one-on-one matchups; things just did not fall in place last year, offensively, but the personnel is there I believe

-lastly, I go to Georgia Tech, and I just wanna say that I hope Chan Gailey becomes our HC, and if he does I wouldn't be surprised to see us draft Reggie Ball in the late rounds or sign him as a UDFA; He's very limited as a QB and will surely not play QB in the pros, but he's an unbelievably tough player (which he doesn't get nearly enough credit for, especially from Tech fans, most of whom think he sucks), and he also has just enough athleticism I believe to be successful; I'd like to see him on the practice squad as a WR or S

Any comments?

No way we have the same starting cornerbacks. Will Allen and Andre Goodman are trash when it comes to starting corners. And Michael Lehan is a joke.

No way we have the same starting cornerbacks. Will Allen and Andre Goodman are trash when it comes to starting corners. And Michael Lehan is a joke.

Will Allen's been a starter his entire career and he proved he should be a starter with his play this past season I thought. And he's the best run-defending corner we've had in years. And Andre' Goodman I thought was one of the best surprises of the the year. Lehan played solid with his little playing time; I hope you're not just saying he's a joke b/c of that one dropped int agains the Jets; but, regardless, he's a projected 5th CB, he's been in the league 4 years now. How good do you want a 5th CB to be? agree to disagree

I wouldn't mind to see Jason Allen playing some CB next season though

We actually more cap room than that.

I don't think we need more than one big free agent and we won't get more than one even if we try to save room.

Here's what you do.

You sign Nate Clements to a VERY expensive deal that pays him heavily in the first year. Pay him something like 11m in his first year.

Out of a 7/50 deal that means say 6/39 afterwards. 6.5m for him is actually quite reasonable afterwards. Take advantage of the fact that we have cap room so that the day Zach and Jason retire we'll have huge amounts of cash to thrown around.

ya our corner backs are pretty pathetic, altho i like andre goodman more than any of our other cbs.. lehan is GARBAGE.. i dont understand why we go with Alan Branch with our 1st round pick, we have so much young depth at NT/DT, im sure one of those guys will step up and weve even seen Manny Wright play good fball, Fred Evans has potential and Rod Wright is 1st round talent that could very well be a huge steal.. All that not counting our starting Dlinemen in Big daddy wilkinson and Vonnie Holliday..If we dont pick up a CB via FA, i say we go with Darelle Revis in the draft.. shutdown corner and he can return punts

Vick is the most interesting player for me right now. We know he has loads of talent but we don't know if he can play. Numbnuts/Saban didn't get him into the game but maybe a few times so we're not sure of what he can do. Hopefully whatever coach we get has a ton of time to look over the talent we have.

I like the effort you put into it, it's appreciated.

I don't think you move Steinbach's position. We've seen what that can do to O-line players and it doesn't work that well.

Also, I think Toledo is more of a LG than anything else.

Nice work. I love the Steinbach pickup but I would draft Joe Staley in the 2nd as our Left Tackle. Staley may need a year of weight training and weight addition to handle it so for next year Steinbach could be moved there but at some point we would have a left side of Staley/ Steinbach. I think Gailey will be our coach and I think he could work with any of our QBs but we would certainly have to get rid of Culpepper or Harrington this offseason due to their cap hit so if Culpepper looks like he's a good fit in Gailey's offense we could keep him. If he continues to struggle we should make the cut this year and take the cap pain so that next year we are free of his financial pain.

Nice work!!! I also think we should take Mason Crosby in the 3rd and send Mare packing.

You missed the most important need: WR!!!

i rather see miami go after asante samuel and lance briggs and for the draft..i have miami selecting #1- ted jinn jr or d. jarrett, #2- colt brennen, #3-j. beekman or ryan kalil (ol), #4- DT, #6-kicker, #7- best player available

You missed the most important need: WR!!!

I rather think that you missed an important point: WR just isn't that big of a need position as a lot of people make it out to be. New England does about fine with a WR corps that is a lot worse than what the Dolphins have at the position. San Diego went 14-2 with guys like Eric Parker and Keenan McCardell. If we manage to establish a solid o-line and get some consistency at quarterback, our receivers are fine. Well, almost. What we are sorely lacking at the position is speed. I know that everyone likes Wes Welker (so do I), but we do need a faster guy at #3.

Definitely put alot of work in it and you make some good points. No way do I think Jeff Garcia is available, Philly will resign him as insurance in the likely event that Donovan doesn't start the season next year due to recovery. He also needs the right type of system to be successful which I doubt would be installed here unless mora becomes our coach which I hope he doesn't, Duante isn't a fit for that dink and dunk west coast system.

I really hope your draft doesn't come to be. In this scenario, once again, we'd ignore the side of the ball that has the greatest area of need. Personally, I'd like to see us go after the top linebackers in Free Agency this year, there are some good ones who may be avaialable. On Offense, our receivers are inconsistent, we could use more than one O-linemen, and we should really consider drafting a QB in the first 3 rounds. But these are all just opinions...
