Not many of us had much faith in the uninspiring and possibly troubling tandem of Tannenbaum and Ross's ability to attract strong, accomplished, alpha type coaches to the franchise. Jeff Darlington's recent revelations regarding Tannenbaum's power grab, elimination of anyone other than yes men and women only serves to reinforce this viewpoint.

I'm concerned that this seemingly all-inclusive interviewing process is just a dog and pony show to give the illusion that the franchise is looking under every stone to uncover the best HC candidate when in fact it's all for show.

Then why would quality coaching candidates like Shanahan interview here? Because it gives the impression they're in demand and some negotiation leverage on more serious opportunities. Is it just a "wink wink" mutually beneficial charade? Is it doing favors for the agents of the coaches and nothing?

My fear is that we will purposely drag our feet, watching the good prospects be snapped up elsewhere and then use the "exhaustive search takes time" excuse to hire a less desirable, more desperate coach like Mike Smith, Todd Haley or even Eric Mangini who are thankful for finally getting another chance and happy to toe the line.

Hope I'm wrong and would gladly rejoice and mange some crow if I am, but my gut tells me not to trust that Tannenbaum will do the right thing in interest of the franchise if it means he has to relinquish power, or put someone more persuasively football savvy with whom an impressionable Ross might end up siding with.

Your thoughts?

We're screwed. When the new coach is announced people will be looking like man.....Miami should have just kept Campbell.

Geez man bumming me out. Todd Haley wouldn't be that bad. There are only so many jobs available Colts are out, no one wants to go to Cleveland, Gase is getting one of the jobs. I see us a being a desirable job of what's available

Possibly Vaark but I have a more hopefully scenario where they hire a real alpha dog like Shanahan or Coughlin and Tannebaum retreats back to the owners box and stays out of the football part to just do big deals and sports medicine stuff. Remember he hired Rex Ryan and mostly stayed out of the way.

I guess i'm just an optimist :)

What has Tannenbaum done in Miami to not deserve the benefit of getting his people in place? Hell he had a big play in philbins early fate which clearly got us a head start on looking for a coach. Ross doesn't deserve our support until his dumbo ass disappears. But I'm at least gonna give it a couple of weeks before letting depression set in.

It may be hard to keep Tannbaum here since he is in so much demand lol

He hires a good coach that wins and his past is largely forgotten.
Then he'll be in demand

If he hires a weak coach that fails just to drive his ego his career is over

It turns out he neutered the only front office exec who's been here over the last decade worth a damn, seized control this past draft process (and look at the results) and then fired him. To me that's a real ****ty start.

It's just too many. It is almost like anticipating rejection. I think normally teams have a list of 4 or 5 coaches they like to interview. How many do we interview? A dozen?

From your mouth to gawd's ear.. but as a born cynic (except when it comes to the fins usually) I hope for the best but expect the worst, and the Darlington disclosure only reinforces my expectations that we're gonna end up with a yes man and/or runt of the HC litter.

I first thought no as I was reading, but when I got to the end of what you posted starting to wonder if that could be reality...

I'm going along with Fish and try to be optimistic, not exactly sure why but the alternative just gurantees more pain and suffering.

If they lose Mike S cause he won't give up some control shame on him.

Im a little confused how Ross came to the conclusion that Mike Tannebaum was a must have to run his team. Tannebaum was fired and no teams made any effort to hire him in any capacity, he then went to work for a sports agent firm. Then a year later he is a consultant for us.
Then the next year we basicaly circumvent NFL rules to put him in charge and lie about it. Then this year we have him fron and center. I have no dount much of that is Parcells in his ear.
I never liked the Parcells hire because he has basically quit on every team outside of the Giants and most of the time its has not been a great parting. people lambasted me because I did not like the hire but I wanted a guy that was going to be here for more than a year or two.
Even though I was right I was shocked he quit after only two years, I predicted year 3. Too bad Don Shula never had any influence with our Jets owner

I think Ross finally broke down, poor Vaark. He used to be very supportive and after all these years of incompetence, he sees him for what he really is.

Hue Jackson! That's who he is waiting for.

We are getting a yes man first time HC or a guy like Haley who would likely sell his soul to HC again - a slight outside shot that all these names are a wicked scheme only to see Mangini take the reins

I always thought Ross means to do the right thing, and still do... but have concluded that while he is obviously a savant in the real estate business, he's hopelessly clueless, misled and a bumbling fish out of water when it comes to the business of football. Just when I 'm encouraged that he's realized that himself by naming a football czar, I see that the "czar" he's hired couldn't even get arrested in the league at a level or two lower after leaving a mess in NY. So now I'm of the opinion he's well-meaning but hopeless.
