The Baltimore game was a resounding thud, but in all honesty, I put more of it on Fangio and the Defense than I do McD. It seems to me, that Miami came out looking good, and we actually had a game on our hands after the 1st qtr but IMO the tide turned when X went down and Eli Apple decided to forget coverages on some calls, and flat out get burnt on others. It seems to me that Fangio gets a little bit more of a pass when our D shits the bed and I can’t quite figure out why.

At this point, here’s what I think I know: Coming into 2023, we had a QB that most in the media and plenty within our own fanbase didn’t think could play an entire season healthy. To add to that, he was entering the season with a still patchwork O-line and a new Oline coach that was universally seen as a horrible hire by McD. To add to that even more, our thin O-line has been beset by injuries all season and still clearly lacks the depth necessary to be considered an above average unit.

With all of that being said, McD has crafted an offense that has seen Tua start the first 16 games of the season, Butch Barry gets an “A” from me in coaching up what he’s had to work with, and Miami is 1 win away from securing the #2 overall seed in the AFC.

My overall feeling on Tua: Heading into the last week of the season, Tua has a really good shot at leading the league in passing yardage as well as completion percentage. He would become only the 8th QB in NFL history to accomplish such a feat and the first one to do it since Drew Brees. I find it INSANE that there’s Dolphin fans out there wanting to move on at the QB position. To me, Tua has proven this season that he can stay healthy and play above average football on a team that still has sizable O-line issues. The kid isn’t perfect, but he’s a young, Pro Bowl level QB and instead of hitting the reset button at QB, I think the only intelligent decision Miami can make is to give Tua his next contract and invest more draft capital in giving him a dependable O-Line to work behind.

My feelings on McD: In his 2nd year as HC, he has delivered at minimum 11 wins and a 2nd consecutive playoff birth. I think we’re beating Buffalo on Sunday so there’s still an opportunity here that he gives us 12 wins, a #2 seed and all of our playoff games at home with the exception of possibly having to play the AFC title game on the road in Baltimore. The Ravens are the absolute class of the NFL right now. If you want to fire McD because he hasn’t gotten Miami on Baltimore’s level less than 2 full seasons into his head coaching career, then you and I will be unable to have a constructive conversation on the matter as it is clear that you have your head lodged way up your own ass.

Overall, unfortunately due to a real shitty run of injuries, the season may not end as most of us had hoped. At some point, too many injuries at multiple positions take a toll on a team and it affects the final product. While I’m still very confident that Miami can answer the bell on Sunday night and give us one more reason to hope, I’m well aware of how beat up this team is and understand that it ultimately might cost us what looked like a very promising post season run just a few weeks ago.

Either way, I’m not ready to pull the plug on Tua and/or McD. In fact, I find all that talk to be completely and utterly moronic, and I just can’t find nicer words to describe that mentality. If you wanna go watch Jim Harbaugh coach next season, go buy a Michigan hat and quit bringing that bullshit in here. Miami has its coach, it has their QB, and come Sunday night, I’ll be in my regular gameday Fins gear with a cold beer(s) in hand ready to celebrate an AFC East championship while being absolutely thrilled to be hosting our first 2 playoff games within the warm confines of Hard Rock Stadium. And if that doesn’t happen you ask? Well, I’ll lick my wounds and get ready to watch the Fins head to KC so they can send the defending SB champs packing in Round 1.

Lastly, let it be known that I DO NOT believe this coach, QB, or team deserve blind loyalty. But what I do feel THEY HAVE EARNED is a fan base with a backbone and the intestinal fortitude to recognize the accomplishments and growth of the last 2 seasons, the potential the future holds, and the ability to shelve all of the knee jerk negativity bullshit and decide if they’re gonna ride or die into season 3 for this group. If not, there’s no shame in that. Just state that you’re done and actually stick by that statement. I’m here for what comes next. If you’re not, kindly move along as I wish you nothing but good luck in your future rooting endeavors.

I don't understand all these rah rah posts. If they don't win a playoff game this season is a failure, period, end-of-story. Now I'm not calling for McDaniel to be fired or for tua to be replaced. But a lot of you guys are reaching for things to be happy about. Professional football is a bottom line business, and that bottom line is wins and losses. This team recently had a three game lead in the division and is now on the cusp (hopefully not) of puking it up. After just controlling their own destiny for the #1 seed to (maybe) not even winning a playoff game? I'm sorry but I personally wouldn't feel good about that. This season has been a GOLDEN opportunity for Miami. Jets lost Rodgers 4 plays into the season. Patriots imploded. Bills underachieved. KC wasn't dominant. Tua has actually played the whole season! The schedule was in their favor with no real cold weather games, playing 3 of last 4 at home and having an away game with KC in a neutral site. When will the stars align like this again? The roster is very talented, but what difference does it make if none of them can stay healthy? Now to be fair the season isn't over yet. There's still a chance they can make it a successful one. But if they are one and done in the playoffs, extending a playoff winless streak to 23 years? How do you feel good about that??????

Yep, the NFL is all about having success in the playoffs. I think people are afraid to acknowledge that so they point to stats instead of wins, which isn't the point of football.

Because context matters. First and foremost, I hoped Miami could make a deep playoff run this season but I was realistic in the fact that with an O-Line as thin as ours, Miami could face the reality of an early playoff exit if we suffered much injury on that front. Whether people want to deem this season a failure or not, the reality is that Miami wasn’t going to be able to fill all of the holes on the O-line this early into the McD era.

That being said, We’ve seen continued improvement in Tua since McD took over. We’ve also seen improvement in O-line play since McD took over. On top of that, I’d grade McD out higher in year 2 as opposed to year 1.

Call me crazy, but after a team hires a young, first time HC and they see growth and improvement, I’m gonna ride with that until the improvement starts to stagnate.

dont agree its been a success this season yet at all - Sunday is one of the defining games for me.

Win = we likely make a run of some sort; we will win a home playoff game IMO
Lose = go on the road to KC and prob lose and have the sour taste of the division choke and tons of questions about the staff.

frankly, sunday is a must win for this franchise to continue moving forward. a Loss just adds weight to everything we are trying to do long term

Eh, a win or a loss Sunday won't determine much but seeding in the playoffs. Winning your division isn't an accomplishment in the NFL, just look at the NFC South. Sadly winning our first playoff game in 300 years would be, at least for our franchise. Baby steps...

We blow the division with a 3 game lead, with 4 to play, and lose in the first round of the playoffs, people have a right to be pissed. That being said, they can change all that starting this week, and moving foward. A division title, and playoff win, would go a long way in this team taking the next step towards a championship. Let's hope the Football Gods shine down on us. Lord knows enough players have sacrificed themselves for the cause. Waiting until Sunday night is brutal, wish it was a 1pm game. Win, or lose, i will be up all night either jacked up, or pissed off.

Yep, the NFL is all about having success in the playoffs. I think people are afraid to acknowledge that so they point to stats instead of wins, which isn't the point of football.

I have ZERO qualms with this take. In fact, let’s take your logic and apply it to the McD tenure:

-In his 1st season McD led Miami to 10 wins and a playoff birth. Miami played at Buffalo in Round 1 as a 2 Touchdown underdog while having to start a rookie at QB. Miami damn near pulled off the upset but ultimately ended up losing.

- In year 2, McD has led Miami to at least 11 wins which is a feat this franchise has not accomplished since 2008. To be fair, he still has a shot to win the AFC East- also an accomplishment not seen since 2008 as well as a 12 win season. Miami hasn’t seen 12 wins in 34 years (1990). In fact, after Marino’s first 2 seasons, Miami has only reached the 12 win mark only once. Should that happen, Miami will host at least 1, and hopefully 2 playoff games.

So we have a coach in his 2nd season who has the organization on the cusp of an accomplishment that Dan Marino, Don Shula, and Jimmy Johnson failed to deliver with any sort of consistency post 1985 and yet the fanbase is full of handwringing and calls for his head.

I’m sorry, but it’s monumentally stupid at this point. Look, if Miami loses on Sunday, gets bounced in Round 1, and McD/Tua follow that up with a step backwards in year 3, I’ll lead the chorus in asking if we’re headed in the right direction. The fact that we’re already asking these questions is pretty ****ing pathetic if you ask me.
