I love Mindwarp
Well here is my shot at a mock right now. I don’t have us addressing some of the issues I think we need to (i.e. OL), but I hope we get some players in those spots through FA. I do however have us getting (what is in my opinion) great value with each pick. I know a couple of these picks are long shots, but it is my mock, and as of right now, seeing this as our draft results, I would be ecstatic.
Round 1: Laron Landry, S, LSU
-Purely BPA pick. Assuming Allen claims the other safety spot, we could be set for years in the back of the secondary.
Round 2: Rufus Alexander, OLB, Oklahoma
-Fast and strong OLB. A position we desperately need some help at.
Round 3: Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
-Declares early thinking he’ll be at worst a 2nd rounder, but slips slightly into the 3rd because of the declaration of other Juniors: Rice, Monk, Jarrett, Johnson, and Ginn(all of whom leave the board by the end of round 2) and a slower than anticipated 40 time.
Round 4: Dan Bazuin, DE, Western Michigan
- This might be a bit of a pipe dream that he lasts this long, but it’s my mock, so that’s who we get. Dan was the nation’s leading sacker this past season, with 17. And hey, the last time we drafted a DE from the MAC it worked out pretty well.
Round 5: To Detroit
Round 6: Justin Vincent, RB, LSU
-Could go as early as round 4, but injury concerns let him slip all the way to round 6. Not the biggest or fastest back, but enough vision and skills to be a capable spot back/back up.
Round 7: KiKi Gonzales, DT, Akron
- 6-2, 300lbs. An immovable object in the middle that will claim a double team majority of the time. Not exclusively a pass rusher or run stuffer, but does both very well.
So there it is, let me have your opinions and so forth. Feel free to rip into some of my picks, or tell me the unlikelihood of some of them happening, so that I get brought back down to earth.
