Drunk driving and killing someone. (DUIs in general) Beating people up in a restaurant. Bar fights. An accessory/witness to murder and abating justice. Aggravated assault with a firearm. Absorbing a small amount of an amphetamine in a supplement. OKAY, which of these does not belong in this group?

I realize Ricky has a past and has done things to dig himself a hole. But I feel he did a great job of seperating himself from his past and was putting good effort into shaping up and helping our football team. But nevermind that for now...

What the hell is wrong with the NFL? Players get away with some unbelievably ridiculous stuff, then something petty like this happens and it makes you scratch your head and wonder, WTF?? The list above is just a small percentage of some of things that NFL players have done recently that, to me (and I hope everyone else), is much worse than anything Ricky has done. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was ok for Ricky to smoke weed - but why doesn't the NFL show more concern in areas of what seem to have more importance. When a player is pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence, why doesn't the NFL do anything? They are endangering people's lives. And there has been a recent case where lives were taken and shattered because of it.(Leonard Little) The NFL did next to nothing in my opinion. I believe he was suspended for 8 games. EIGHT GAMES? You just KILLED SOMEONE. DEAD. He took a life. A mother....a wife...a sister. Ricky, you took a supplement with an ampetamine in it. Sorry we can't have that. Sit out a year. Ray Lewis...you watched your friends murder someone. You didn't turn them in. You were there. You witnessed it. You were an accessory to it. Period. Ricky!? You did what? Passed every test we gave you, at LEAST two a week? You weren't smoking marijuana. You did what? Took a stimulant? Sit out a season! We can't have that.
Sean Taylor, don't worry. AS long as you make it through your legal trial, it will be ok. The NFL doesn't mind guns. We don't care if you pull one on someone, don't care if you threaten with it or USE it. If you kill someone, it's ok. We might suspend you for half a season if someone dies. HELL, we might do nothing at all. Ricky!..shame on you. You would have been better off killing someone......

Just venting.........

I couldn't of said it better myself..Unbelievable..Ricky just wants to be in peace with himself, and he gets a one year suspension.

I totally agree with what you have written..

You have issues with the NFL and they should be on Ricky Williams.

The NFL has rules, and Ricky had chance after chance after chance after chance. It was not like Ricky all of a sudden tested positive for "something other then Mary Jane". Ricky dug his own hole.

Stop feeling sorry for a guy that was stupid, 4 times. Did Ray Lewis do what he did 4 times?

What gets me is your mad at the NFL for putting the weakest drug policy in place, the weakest, lets see, 4 times before your suspended for a year. 4 times!!! Please tell me a job in the real world where you can test positive for pot 4 times and still have a job.

Do yourself a favor, put the blame where it belongs, on Mr. Williams, not the NFL. He put himself in this position. Did you see the interview with Mike Wallace; Ricky likes Mary Jane. Now he gets to smoke all he wants.

Repeated offenses always carry higher consequences. That's not just limited to the NFL. It happens all the time with sentencing guidelines. Once you get so many crimes under your belt the judges are often required by law to give harsher punishments. It doesn't matter if the last crime is minor and wouldn't merit such a punishment by itself b/c it's not by itself. The rational behind that is that repeat offenders cost more. In the NFL, RW has been providing negative publicity for much longer than any of those others. Further, we tend to believe as a society that anybody can make one mistake and we're more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt, but repeated mistakes makes it more likely that you are the problem.

I agree, Ricky's mistake (this time) wasn't as bad as some of the other things that have gone on in sports. Jamal Lewis selling crack, Barry Bonds morphing into a racehorse with all of the steroids (throw Jason Giambi, Gary Sheffield into that category) Carmelo Anthony smokin weed, Randy Moss admitting in an interview he does too, Todd Bertuzzi almost killing another player in a game. It's almost scary what some athletes and celebrities can get away with. I think all of the major sports should do a better job cleaning up their image/players and stop using rappers like 50 cent an ja rule to sell the game to kids. The NBA and ESPN have become MTV/BET focusing less on talent and sportmanship, instead emphasizing the East coast/West coast hand gestures and the bling bling and celebrating after every play. I'm not being racist or anything so don't bother with that arguement. I just don't think that guys who flash guns or have sold crack or have been in jail for attempted murder should be marketed to little kids.

Ricky deserved to be punished last time, but this time I'm not so sure. I think because of his past history the NFL saw this lastest incident as another violation rather than a mistake. If it was his first offense than I think he would be playing next year. The Miami Dolphins will be just fine next year, Ricky was a luxury, without him we are still alot better off than other teams who don't have a RB to carry the ball 25-30 times a game. Infact, I posted this last night, I think Ricky's presence would have stunted/limited Ronnie's growth as a player. Now we all get the chance to see what he can do.

Well said SCall. Its not so much that I have a problem with Ricky's suspension since it was the 4th violation, but compared with how they treat instances where people lives are put in danger its just ridiculous.

Wow, so 2 people need to die 4 times for a year suspension? :shakeno: Who are you tryin to convince that the NFL isn't messed up with it's penalties? Us or yourself? Cause I am not convinced by the lames you call points. If REAL crimes were punished in the NFL worse than this, then we would be ok. But the fact of the matter is: Ricky is out for a year for use of a VERY MILD drug. Little, and Lewis both involved in murder in some way and got a lil slap on the wrist. You cannot deny this is ******ed, and the punishments need to be upped for more serious **** for me to even think this punishment on Ricky is fair..

Like I said in my original post: I'm not saying it's ok that Ricky was smoking weed before. That is not really the entire point. I don't have issues with the NFL in general. But I do find it disturbing that they would allow murder with basically no consequence. And for someone to suggest that someone should be allowed to be involved in 4 murders before they are punished (as you suggested) is even more disturbing than that.

Drugs affect the composition of your body and your performance on the field. Beating your wife does not. Hence the NFL has stricter policies on them vs. violent crime. Those other things are between you and the law. Drugs like amphetemines call into question the integrity of the game.

I agree. I'm not necassarily saying RW shouldn't have been punished. (I was hoping he'd get off and thought he would.) What bothers me is what other things (worse things) are seemingly "winked at" by the league.
