Part of me is really intrigued by this. It's the same part of me that got suckered into loving the Nick Saban hire.
But the entire premise of the thread is off. Zodiak speculates that Carl Peterson will advise Steve Ross to go with a young and hungry first time Head Coach rather than an experienced Head Coach. That's not in Carl Peterson's history, and I happen to know that isn't Steve Ross' current mind set. I know it because Steve Ross told someone I'm acquainted with directly that he wants an experienced Head Coach.
Carl Peterson hired Marty Schottenheimer in Kansas City. Was he a young and hungry first time Head Coach? No. He had just got done with a 5 year stint as Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns. When Marty turned in his resignation as Head Coach of the Chiefs, Carl Peterson made what I'm sure he feels is a mistake in retrospect, promoting Gunther Cunningham from Defensive Coordinator to Head Coach. Peterson did it to keep continuity with the system and team Marty Schottenheimer set up. But Gunther was a first time Head Coach, and he only lasted two years before Peterson fired Cunningham and hired Dick Vermeil, who would now be on his 3rd NFL team as Head Coach. When Dick Vermeil left, Carl Peterson hired Herm Edwards, who had just got done with a stint as Head Coach of the Jets.
Basically in all that time Peterson only hired one Head Coach that didn't have previous experience, purely for the sake of continuity after Schottenheimer left, and he fired that guy after two years with a 18-18 record.
You think Carl Peterson is going to advise Ross that he needs to go with someone inexperienced? I don't think so. That might ultimately be what Steve Ross does, but IMO if he does that, it will be because the "big name" experienced guys (Gruden, Cowher, Fisher) all said no, and Steve Ross' desire for a sexy name turns at odds with Peterson's advice to hire a retread.
