The first priority Nick Saban will have in the 2006 offseason will be to upgrade the QB position. Depending on where we pick in the 1st round, we should come away with one of the upper eschelon QBs in the draft.

As for our 2nd round pick, we have to address the CB position. In the past, we've had very good luck at drafting CBs in the 2nd round (Madison and Surtain). I wouldn't mind seeing us take a CB with our 2nd and 3rd round picks.

As for both the offensive and defensive lines, I think we can pick up a decent player in the 4th as well as in free agency. As we saw today, a great defensive line can make a mediocre secondary look much better.

That's my 2 cents worth. Any thoughts?

good ideas but a little early to be calling these when we have half the season left.

David Carr. Matt Birk. Plaxico Burress. Draft the rest.

Oh I agree. I am DEFINITELY not giving up on this season. We won four games all last year and through seven games this year, we're 3-4. It's all about baby steps. I saw a lot of really good things today from this football team. And I have to agree with what Joe Rose said about Ronnie Brown. This young man just gets better every time he touches the football. Today's game very well could be a turning point for the rest of the season.

I was just planning for the future.

I'm not sold on David Carr. Granted, he has all the physical tools and is a quality person, but all those years playing behind awful Texans lines with poor coaching has really hurt his confidence. He needs a lot of psychological work before he can even think about living up to the billing of the #1 pick in the draft. That being said, he very well might pull a Jim Plunkett and prove all the doubters (myself included) wrong.

I don't even know if we'll have to trade for a QB considering the fact that Carr can step out of his deal. I don't think he'd want to avoid the money but the Texans will definitely not give him an 8m option. If he can regain his confidence he'd be great here. I'm not opposed to Patrick Ramsey as others are here. It's just I don't want to avoid drafting a guy like Eric Winston or Haloti Ngata to get a QB prospect who just doesn't deserve to be drafted that high.

I'd be fine with Rivers too, but I think Carr will come cheaper anyway.

Not bad, but I think instead of a CB in round 2, we draft a Safety. I know our CBs need help, but we have to draft a young safety at some point. Plus, we are good at picking up CBs in round 4(Poole & Daniels).

The CBs we pick up in the 4th round unfortunately don't have much speed. They're 2 and 3rd corners, the both of them. We need a #1 CB again and he's got to have speed. Hopefully next year our CBs will look like...

CB1- Either we draft him or sign someone to be the #1
CB2- Poole
CB3- Daniels
CB4- Mitchell

That's if we get rid of Madison depending on how the year turns out for him.

It'll be nice to be able to into the nickel again without being scared of Howard being torched...
