Trade - P.Merling DE/ G.Cam WR/ J.Porter OLB to SD for S.Merriman OLB
I really don't think SD wants to retain Merriman but they also don't want to let him walk for nothing. J.Porter gives them a veteran OLB that can play situationally while L.English takes over. Merling offers them a young prospect at DE and G.Cam could help fill the hole Floyd may leave them with.
Re-sign
D.Bess
A.Fasano
J.Haynos
J.Ferguson - 1 year stop gap
Cut - only because I don't think they have any trade value
R.Torbor - 4mil as a back up, bye bye
Y.Bell - due 14mil, 31yrs old, solid but not spectacular. I think this was the FO's plan all along to move Wilson (28yrs old) to SS and let Clemons take over at FS.
Draft
1. Trade back for a 1st, 2nd and 2011 pick.
1. S.Weathspoon ILB
Taking the info from our draft experts here (Finheaven) Weatherspoon would make a great ILB for us that can cover and blitz better then any other ILB in the draft.
Since we got our man at ILB we turn around and trade R.Brown & C.Crowder to KC for their first 2nd round pick. This gives Weiss a nice 1-2 combo and also replaces D.Johnson at ILB.
2. (from KC) B.Spikes ILB
Spikes drops a bit, he can battle it out with Akin for the 2nd ILB position.
2. T.Mays FS
Drops to 2nd round, he can play in situational downs and start on ST while learning the postion. He gives us versitility as a tweener LB/FS on run downs and blitz packages.
2. (from 1st round pick trade) Trade again to Arizona for A.Boldin WR. We have free'd up alot of cash getting rid of Porter, Torbor, Bell, Brown and Crowder. Instant impact to the offense along with veteran leadership.
3. J.Graham TE
Athletic freak that bumps Sperry off the active roster, 6'8 beast that incorporates speed, strength and skill but still alittle raw. Can you imagine the power run game with double Tight and Haynos and Graham come out at 6'8 a piece and our Oline.
4. R.Mathews RB
5'11 220 4.45 extremely productive back that could flourish behind our Oline.
Looking for the diamonds in the rough to compete at camp...
6. C.Brown RB
5'11 208 4.47
6. B.Tate RB
5'11 215 4.44
6. T.Troup NT
6'3 314
R.Brown's injury history and contract are enough to dump him, having R.Williams, P.Cobbs, L.Hillard and some draft picks makes this an easy move. Our oline is suppose to be a dominant one in the run game so plugging guys in shouldn't be an issue.
Dumping alot of salary allows us to pick up S.Merriman OLB in his prime and slip in a trade of A.Boldin WR to give Henne the best chance to succeed in year 3.
I would love to add C.Hampton or K.Dansby (which would have changed our 2nd pick) but I thought I'd keep it alittle more realistic financially. This improves the LB core big time and adds some offensive punch. NT still scares me because if Fergy goes down again we're screwed. Clemons steps in as the FS with Mays getting mixed in a bit.
I also realize trades are difficult to make but I see Merriman and Boldin as two players that their respective teams do not want to keep any longer.
Fire away!!!!
