Most of today's action was taking place on the field opposite the crowd stands, so it was difficult for me to see exactly everything that was going on during today's session. It was also another extremely uncomfortable day in regards to the heat....

Today I decided to leave out all of the boring stuff, and get straight to the meat / potatoes...

RUNNING DRILLS
----------------

This was straight up 11-11, and the yards didn't come very easy...

McCown - Hand off to Ricky, up the middle for only about 1 -2 yards....

------

Beck - Hand off to Brown, nice run up the left side middle for about 5 yards....

Beck - Brown again, and goes for about 2-3 this time up the middle...

Beck - Quick hand off up the middle to the FB, only about 1 yard....

Beck - Brown goes outside right, and gets stopped after about a 2 yard gain....

------------------------------------------------------

After that, the QB were over working on an interesting drill. It looked to be an escape / hit the target drill. They were all taking snaps, and while having a rusher coming into their face, they would elude the pressure, and then throw to a dummy target in the back / corners of the left and right endzones. It was really a neat drill to watch, and they all showed some very good movement / accuracy during this time. I especially liked Henne, he just looks unexpectedly comfortable for a rookie that's all....

7 ON 7 DRILLS
----------------

McCown - Throws over the middle to the TE for about 7 yards....

McCown - Shotgun formation, nice fade route connection for about 20 yards. Good play...

McCown - Shotgun formation, Quick outside pass to Ricky, only a minimal gain. It didn't really develop...

McCown - Shotgun formation, struggling to find anyone open, he eventually throws outside for short completion. The play took too long, and likely would have been a sack / busted play...

McCown - Throws to sidelines, and connects for about an 8 yard gain....

McCown - Shotgun, throws over the middle very short to Brown, only about a 3 yard gain. Nothing much but a short dump off. Not too difficult....

------

Beck - Throws over the middle to WR D. Kircus for about 15 yards. Nice throw / catch...

Beck - Outside throw to the TE, but is dropped. The pass looked somewhat low...

Beck - Tries to squeeze one in, but the coverage was too tight. It was a nice try....

Beck - Shotgun, hits Brown going to the outside for only a minimal gain...

Beck - Only a 5 yard pass, not good, and incomplete. It looked like a misread by someone...

------

Henne - Throws to the mid - outside to TE for about 7. Strong throw, but unfortunately his only rep during that particular drill...

-----------------------------------------

MORE 11 ON 11

McCown - Tries to dump it of to FB R. Mauia under heavy pressure, but it's dropped...

McCown - Strong pressure up the middle, nice escape, and then a really nice throw to Ginn. I'd estimate that one going for about 30 yards...

McCown - Throws long and deep to right side, it was close but fell incomplete. Nice try, but the coverage was there on top of it...

McCown - Quick over the middle attempt that falls incomplete. Only about a 5 yard pass...

McCown - Throws over the middle, the pass was low, and it falls incomplete...

It's been very difficult to judge McCown, sometimes he looks good, and sometimes not so good. I think he looks more comfortable under pressure than any of the others at this stage, but he still hasn't impressed me all that much...

---------

Beck - Throws it away. Nobody open for him I guess....

Beck - Throws deep to the right side, but it's overthrown. The coverage was on top on it as well. Incomplete....

Beck - SACK. Nobody open, and held the ball too long....

Beck - Throws a nice 10 yard completion to the outside. Good throw there....

Beck - Hand off up the middle that goes for about 3-4 yards....

---------

McCown - Throws to the outside, complete for about 7 yards....

McCown - Brown tries to go up the middle, but has no success. No gain....

THE CLOSING 11 ON 11 {more contact}
-----------------------

McCown - Brown tries to go up the middle, but is shut down afterr about 2 yards. Good stuff on defense....

McCown - Hand off up the the middle for no gain. Again, the DL is holding firm...

McCown - Nice outside dump off pass to Brown, had the defense fooled. It was a good call, and had good execution...

McCown - Hand off to Ricky, tries to find space in the middle, but has no luck. No gain...

McCown - Throws another dump off to Brown, and he again connects for positive yards. They look to have that play taken care of, it's the deep stuff I'm concerned about...

McCown - There's a hand off to the left, and a nice gain for about 6-7 yards. I think it was Brown, but it was hard to tell...

------

Beck - SACK... The left side is struggling in pass protection no question about it...

Beck - Hand off to Brown up the middle for about 2 yards....

Beck - SACK... Left side caves in again!! I hope that's not our #1 selection over there getting owned every play...

Beck - Brown runs left, and has a nice gain for about 10 yeard or so. Strong effort...

Beck - Beck loses hold of the ball, BAD FUMBLE!!!....

Beck - Comes back with an 8 yard strike to the outside. Looked like Kircus again, but I could be wrong....

Beck - Escaping pressure, he throws complete down the mid sideline for about 10 yards. Nice finish to what was an abysmal rep session for him...

FINAL THOUGHTS.....

Today was not nearly as energized in my opinion. I saw a lot more mistakes, and more dropped passes than yesterday. As far the QB's are concerned, I don't think we're even close to knowing which one of them will win the starting job. None have been all that impressive in my opinion. They just look very inconsistent at this time...

The defense has been looking stronger than I expect, and the OL has been having mounds of trouble on the left side. I sure hope it's not Long who's struggling, but needless to say, the LT position is showing signs of severe weakness....

The WR's / TE's didn't look nearly as focused today either. I saw many drops during simple drills, and while they were facing off in 11-11 / 7-7 drills. Yesterday, I personally did not see one single catchable ball hit the ground. I counted close to 10 today. May it was due to the BIG TUNA hanging around, but regardless, it wasn't pretty for those guys today....

If I had rated the overall practice session yesterday, I would have given it a 10 out of 10. Today was only about a 4 on that same scale. The focus just didn't seem like it was there today, and it showed on the field in my opinion. Hopefully we wont see many more of these days before the season starts. It wasn't a very good practice from my chair....

IN TUNA WE TRUST.....

Good stuff, I think this is exactly what could be expected from everyone at this point. There's way to much learning and not enough reacting going on. It's going to be slow till everyone gets over the first parts of the soreness and learning that's taking place right now. I know we are only reading our camp reports, but I'm sure there are others around the league that sound near the same. It's just real early in the process, lets all just remember that.

Not much to comment yet then regarding positive stuff. Not really suprised as the state of the team and the learning curve for a new team. Small steps..... small steps.

I'm not trying to sound like a smarty pants, because I do appreciate these reports, but if Jake was getting owned consistently, the media would have made a note of it. And I have read all the reports from this morning, and didnt see anything about Jake struggling.

My point is not that you're wrong, but that it likely was not Jake (at least not every time). They are trying some different guys at LT, including (surprisingly) Ndukwe and Donald Thomas.

very good report....thanks for your time of posting and informing us.

Defence sounds good, I hope the offence can improve

I hope McCown or Beck can step up, we need a QB who can win!

The heat is the best part about training camp!!

In the 11 on 11 drills what fron were we using? I was just wondering were we in the 3-4 most of practice.

Good Stuff!!!! One question? on the running plays are they tackling to the ground or just wraping up the running back? Hopefully that was our backup LT getting used out there and it sounds like the Jason Ferguson and the inside backers are solid against the run. Keep up the reports we need as much info as possible. Thanks for taking the time to bring it to us.

man, me and my two bros got up at 4 and drove from Jacksonville to Davie to watch the practice. From what I saw, Ferguson is a beast and very disruptive up the middle. Merling, what can I say..That guy is a beast, also got into a little scuffle with Jake Long, nothing serious, but was good to see. I think we are gonna have a pretty good defense this year and within a few years, an awesome one. JT WHO?? Wr's- although Bess isnt the fastest guy out there, that guy has some hands, let me tell you. Ginn, Didn't see much. Wilford is our #1 wr this year fellas, hate to say it, but it's true. What I am raving about today is the play of Derek Hagan, I didn't see him drop a single pass all day long. He made a great catch in coverage, looking like will allen was going to pick it, but somehow Hagan got a hold of is and took it to the house. Qb's- ok I saw the palm Beach post blog after practice and I have to say something, in that blog it said that McCown looks better than beck and henne today! I have to dissagree. I thought beck and Henne did a good job today and Beck really bounced back from yesterdays performance. Hitting his wr's in stride, finding the open man. Hes got some zip as well. Henne looked accurate as well..well felles, Im excited for the season..

I was going to ask yesterday but didn't want to really say it just yet; how bad is our offensive line looking at passing plays?

And, can you grade the offensive line play by quarterback?
