- Detroit Lions trade #3 pick to the San Diego Chargers for #5 pick and a 2nd rounder.
- Detroit Lions trade #5 pick to the Tennessee Titans for #14 pick, 2nd and 3rd rounder, 4th rounder in 2003.
- Indianapolis Colts trade #11 pick and a 2nd rounder to the Oakland Raiders for #21 and #23 picks, and a 3rd rounder.
- Indianapolis Colts trade #21 pick to the Baltimore Ravens for #24 pick and a 4th rounder.
- Chicago Bears trade #29 pick for QB Drew Bledsoe and a 6th rounder. (Note: I know the Bears may not have the money to make this trade, and they just signed Jim Miller to a 5 year deal. However, I don't know where else to put him, and I don't see any way that Belichick makes Bledsoe sit on the bench for the second straight season.)

1) Houston Texans select QB David Carr, Fresno St.
Contract talks between Carr and the Texans should heat up soon. The only thing stronger Carr's arm is his character. If OC Chris Palmer corrects his throwing motion, look out.

2) Carolina Panthers select DE Julius Peppers, North Carolina.
The Panthers need more speed on defense, and they'll get that here in Peppers. He and Rucker off the edges will take pressure off the secondary.

3) San Diego Chargers (DET) select OT Bryant McKinnie, Miami (FL).
Marty Schottenheimer places a high value on OTs. The Lions will entertain all trade offers on draft day, with McKinnie as the highest rated player behind Carr and Peppers. With an extra 2nd rounder, the Chargers could jump a couple spots to cement that the 6-9, 343 pound beast will protect Drew Brees for the next 10 years.

4) Buffalo Bills select QB Joey Harrington, Oregon.
The Bills also will look to trade down... but to whom?
Because a trade down won't result in great value, the Bills stand pat and make Harrington their selection.

5) Tennessee Titans (DET-SD) select CB Quentin Jammer, Texas.
Because a top-notch defender likely won't be available at the #14 selection, the Titans move up to solidify the CB position. Jammer and Rolle will give opposing offenses fits.

6) Dallas Cowboys select RB T.J. Duckett, Michigan St.
If Jerry Jones believes Quincy Carter is his Troy Aikman, who will be his Emmitt Smith?
Jones had to be impressed with Duckett's 4.37/40 time at 6-1, 250.

7) Minnesota Vikings select DT Albert Haynesworth, Tennessee.
As is the case with many rebuilding defenses, the goal for the Vikings is to build from the trenches out. A DL of Haynesworth, Hovan, Mixon, and Sawyer will free up LBs and pressure the QB.

8) Kansas City Chiefs select WR Ashley Lelie, Hawaii.
Dick Vermiel will be torn between a top-notch WR and a stud interior defender. Vermiel's vision of an explosive Chiefs offense will win that chess match.

9) Jacksonville Jaguars select DT Ryan Sims, North Carolina.
Tom Coughlin and Mike Tice are in similar situations... which gaping hole on defense should be fixed first?

10) Cincinnati Bengals select CB Phillip Buchanon, Miami (FL).
Finally, the Bengals make up for passing on Champ Bailey in '99.

11) Oakland Raiders (IND) select DT John Henderson, Tennessee.
Al Davis + a lot of draft picks = Big Trade.

12) Arizona Cardinals select S Roy Williams, Oklahoma.
Dave McGinnis will be all smiles if Williams drops this far. He is the tenacious enforcer that the Cardinals clearly lack on defense.

13) New Orleans Saints select WR Donte Stallworth, Tennessee.
Replacing Ricky Williams and Willie Jackson with Duece McAlister and Donte Stallworth will mean less consistancy, but more speed.

14) Detroit Lions (TEN) select RB William Green, Boston College.
The Lions have already cut ties with Charlie Batch, Johnnie Morton, Herman Moore, Germaine Crowell, and David Sloan in an attempt to completely overhaul the offense. Why would they stop at James Stewart? Marty Mohrninweg, an offensive minded coach, could move down to pick a stud RB, and use the extra picks to add speed on defense.

15) New York Giants select DT Wendell Bryant, Wisconsin.
Garnes and Armstead are already gone, with Sehorn, Strahan, Hamilton, and Barrow not far behind. This team clearly needs a defensive cornerstone, and Bryant would be a major steal here.

16) Atlanta Falcons select WR Josh Reed, LSU.
Dan Reeves is not a fan of drafting wideout in the first round; he could make an exception for Josh Reed.

17) Cleveland Browns select G Andre Gurode, Colorado.
Butch Davis kept a close eye on Gurode at the combine. With Ryan Tucker and Ross Verba as bookends, the Browns could use an interior dominator. Levi Jones and Mike Pearson are possibilities, too.

18) Washington Redskins select WR Jabar Gaffney, Florida.
In case you've forgotten, Steve Spurrier trusts his Florida pupils.

19) Denver Broncos select S Michael Lewis, Colorado.
Mike Shanahan loves size and athleticism above anything else in his safeties, andare considering moving either Deltha O'Neal or Willie Middlebrooks to FS. In my opinion, Shanahan envisioned a hard hitter/playmaker tandem of Middlebrooks and O’Neal last season, and could reach for a FS like Lewis in the 1st round to solidify the secondary.

20) Seattle Seahawks select TE Daniel Graham, Colorado.
Graham's stock improves with every workout; he ran a 4.49/40 a few days ago. Allowing Christian Fauria to seek another team tells me that the TE position is high on Mike Holmgren's wish list.

21) Baltimore Ravens (IND-OAK-TB) select OT Mike Williams, Texas.
I see Williams falling on draft day with Lelie, Stallworth, and Duckett improving their stocks. OT and WR are two major needs for Brian Billick; Mike Williams will be a drastic improvement over Kipp Vickers.

22) New York Jets select DT Eddie Freeman, Alabama-Birmingham.
Good News: The Jets have addressed their needs at LG, CB, LB, and DE enough to focus on a DT in the first round.
Bad News: Henderson, Haynesworth, Sims, and Bryant should all be off the board by the time the Jets pick.
At 6-5, 310 pounds, Freeman is talented enough to warrant first round consideration.

23) Indianapolis Colts (OAK) select DE Kalimba Edwards, South Carolina.
If Edwards is completely recovered from his '01 injury, he should compliment Chad Bratzke very nicely.

24) Indianapolis Colts (BAL) select S Ed Reed, Miami (FL).
Reed has the character and intellegence that Tony Dungy loves. At 5-11, 201 pounds, he may have the size to be an attacking SS.

25) New Orleans Saints select LB Napolean Harris, Northwestern.
Veteran OLBs Keith Mitchell and Darrin Smith were exposed last season when the DL failed to protect them. Harris and Sedrick Hodge have the beef to take on blocks at the point of attack.

26) Philadelphia Eagles select RB DeShaun Foster, UCLA.
Andy Reid's interest in Warrick Dunn shows that Duce Staley's durability is a major question mark. Foster will fit in well with the Eagles.

27) San Francisco 49ers select G Kendall Simmons, Auburn.
Ray Brown should retire after the season, with no suitable replacement in sight. I don't see a worthy DT or CB candidate here, so Simmons is the pick.

28) Green Bay Packers select DT Larry Tripplett, Washington.
While veterans Santana Dotson, Gilbert Brown, Russell Maryland, and Jim Flanigan have given the Packers solid production at the DT position over the last two years, youth is desperately needed on the interior line.

29) New England Patriots (CHI) select DE Ryan Denney, BYU.
At 6-7, 276, Denney has the potential to be a great base end for Bill Belichick. Denney is sleadily moving up draft boards.

30) Pittsburgh Steelers select TE Jeremy Shockey, Miami (FL).
The addition of a pure receiving TE would be greatly appreciate by Offensive Coordinator (and former TE coach) Mike Mularkey.

31) St. Louis Rams select WR Antwan Randle-El, Indiana.
WHOA! Am I crazy? Before providing me with names of good mental facilities, please note that Rams GM Charlie Armey was quoted as saying Randle-El may be the best player in the draft.

32) New England Patriots select LB Rocky Calmus, Oklahoma.
Everyone knows that Calmus has the intellegence and passion to succeed. When he ran a 4.6/40 at 6-3, 243 pounds, he may have proved he has the size and athleticism as well.

Round Two...
33) Houston Texans select RB Clinton Portis, Miami (FL).
Surely the Texans don't view Allen as the long term solution.

34) Carolina Panthers select CB Lito Sheppard, Florida.
The Panthers just need bodies at the CB position after releasing Doug Evans and Jimmy Hitch****.

35) Detroit Lions select S LaMont Thompson, Washington St.
Thompson and Brian Walker will bring more size and speed to the safety position.

36) Buffalo Bills select OT Marc Colombo, Boston College.
This is a guy that you just don't hear enough of. He's 6-8, nearly 300 pounds with the feet to play LT.

37) Dallas Cowboys select OT Levi Jones, Arizona St.
Clearly, Jones doesn't deserve to go this low. However, OTs aren't in high demand for the late 1st round teams.

38) Minnesota Vikings select OT Mike Pearson, Florida.
Pearson's frail frame (6-7, 288) could lead to some questions about his run blocking. He'd be a welcome addition for the Vikings.

39) San Diego Chargers select WR Reche Caldwell, Florida.
The Chargers are in need of a #2 wideout. Caldwell fits the bill.

40) Jacksonville Jaguars select WR Andre Davis, Virginia Tech.
Look for the team to keep Keenan McCardell for another season, with a 2nd or 3rd rounder taking his place in '03.

41) Cincinnati Bengals select QB Patrick Ramsey, Tulane.
The Bengals have to come away with a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

42) Oakland Raiders (IND) select WR Antonio Bryant, Pittsburgh.
Bryant didn't impress at the combine, running a 4.6/40 at a frail 6-1, 185 pounds. Combine that with his character issues, and you have a mid 2nd rounder.

43) Kansas City Chiefs select DE Bryan Thomas, Alabama-Bimingham.
The Chiefs must shore up the DL, and Thomas' freakish athletic ability is a good start.

44) New Orleans Saints select DT Anthony Weaver, Notre Dame.
Weaver's ability to play DE and DT will make him a great understudy to Joe Johnson.

45) New York Giants select G Toniu Fonoti, Nebraska.
Although Fonoti is a mauler, he didn't exactly silence the critics that questioned his athletic ability. Just another OLman that drops on this day.

46) Detroit Lions (TEN) select DE Will Overstreet, Tennessee.
CEO Matt Millen will covet Overstreet's tenacity and pass rush ability.

47) Detroit Lions select (SD-WAS) select CB Mike Rumph, Miami (FL).
Although Rumph didn't intercept a pass his senior season, he has the size to be an excellent bump-and-run CB.

48) Cleveland Browns select LB Robert Thomas, UCLA.
Wali Rainer has been solid since taking over the MLB position in '98, but more is needed in terms of playmaking.

49) Arizona Cardinals select DE Dwight Freeney, Syracuse.
Getting a pure pass rusher is a major need for this team.

50) Houston Texans select WR Marquis Walker, Michigan.
The Texans already have speed in Corey Bradford and Jermaine Lewis; Marquise Walker adds size and hands to the receiving core.

51) Denver Broncos select WR Javon Walker, Florida St.
Even Walker's sub 4.4/40 speed at 6-3, 212 can't overshadow his poor concentration and routes. A project, for sure.

52) Washington Redskins select DE Alex Brown, Florida.
Personally, I think Alex Brown is an overrated, undersized DE that made his living off of dominating below average college LTs. But you can bet Steve Spurrier will jump at the chance to land Florida's all time leader in sacks.

53) Seattle Seahawks select DE Charles Grant, Georgia.
If the Seahawks address the TE position in the first round, look for them to go DL crazy the rest of the way.

54) Oakland Raiders (TB) select CB Roosevelt Williams, Tuskegee
Eric Allen is approaching Darrell Green territory at 37, and probably will call it a career after the season.

55) Baltimore Ravens select WR Tim Carter, Auburn.
Carter's 4.32/40 at the combine is improving his draft status immensely. He could challenge Brandon Stokley for the #2 spot.

56) Oakland Raiders select QB Josh McCown, Sam Houston St.
Make no mistake about it: Marques Tuiasosopo was strictly a Jon Gruden selection. McCown is the type of project Al Davis will covet at the QB position.

57) New York Jets select G Martin Bibla, Miami (FL).
Bibla proved his strength at the combine enough to compliment his college production. Can Dave Szott be counted on to play 16 games?

58) Philadelphia Eagles select C LeCharles Bentley, Ohio St.
Bentley has emerged as the top Center in this draft with the versatility to play Guard.

59) Philadelphia Eagles select CB Dante Wesley, Arkansas.
With two second rounders and few needs, the Eagles can afford to take a risk on a physical specimen (6-1, 211, 4.39/40 speed) like Wesley.

60) Green Bay Packers select S Jon McGraw, Kansas St.
He's a monster at 6-3, 210, and could succeed LeRoy Butler at SS.

61) San Francisco 49ers select CB Keyou Craver, Nebraska.
Look for the 49ers to take two CBs in RDs 2-5. Fresh off an appearance in the National Championship, Craver can immediately challenge for playing time in Nickel and Dime packages.

62) Pittsburgh Steelers select CB Derek Ross, Ohio St.
Ross is an immature player in need of discipline... Cowher will welcome that challenge. The Steelers could use a LB, but probably will address that need in Free Agency.

63) Chicago Bears select DE Dennis Johnson, Kentucky.
With no first rounder, the Bears must address their need for a pass rusher in the 2nd round. Johnson, who did not impress at the combine, could help out immediately.

64) St. Louis Rams select LB Saleem Rasheed, Alabama.
Polley, Duncan, Rasheed will give the Rams the fastest LB core in the league.

65) New England Patriots select S/CB Steve Smith, Oregon.
Smith's smarts and versatility will make for another interesting project for Bill Belichick. He could be a great Special Teamer, too.

Round Three

66) Houston Texans select LB LeVar Fisher, North Carolina St.
Fisher could be a monster in Capers' 3-4 alignment.

67) Carolina Panthers select LB James Allen, Oregon St.
Like the CB position, the Panthers just need bodies at OLB.

68) Detroit Lions select LB Josh Thornhill, Michigan St.
Thornhill's 4.6/40 time at the combine could earn him some looks as a Strongside LB.

69) Buffalo Bills select DT Alan Harper, Fresno St.
Very underrated player that reminds me of La'Roi Glover. He fits well in Gregg Williams' attacking one-gap defense.

70) Minnesota Vikings select S Edward Prather, Mississippi St.
Prather could be a starter from day one. Then again, so could I.

71) San Diego Chargers select CB Andre Goodman, South Carolina.
McNeil will be 32 this year, with little depth behind he and Tay Cody.

72) Dallas Cowboys select CB Andre Lott, Tennessee.
If the Cowboys do not take Jammer or Buchanon in RD1, they'll have to address the CB position in the middle rounds.

73) Cincinnati Bengals select TE Doug Jolley, BYU.
When are the Bengals finally going to get a TE to supplant Tony McGee? Jolley could be that player.

74) Indianapolis Colts select G Fred Weary, Tennessee.
Did Ryan Diem show enough to earn him Steve McKinney's LG position? Weary is good insurance with the ability to play Center.

75) Kansas City Chiefs select DT Justin Bannan, Colorado.
Thomas and Bannan should contribute immediately.

76) Jacksonville Jaguars select RB Lamar Gordon, North Dakota St.
Will Gordon be ready when Fred Taylor goes down in Week 5?

77) New York Giants select LB Larry Foote, Michigan.
Foote boosted his draft stock at the combine by weighing in at 233 pounds, at least 10 pounds heavier than what he played at in college.

78) Detroit Lions select CB Mike Echols, Wisconsin.
The defensive additions of Thompson, Overstreet, Rumph, Thornhill, and Echols signals a solid day for Matt Millen and Marty Mohrninweg.

79) Atlanta Falcons select DE Kenyon Coleman, UCLA.
At 6-5, 284, Coleman is an ideal fit as a 3-4 DE.

80) Cleveland Browns select OT Joaquin Gonzalez, Miami (FL).
If Gonzalez proves duable enough to play LT or RT, either Ross Verba or Ryan Tucker could move inside.

81) Arizona Cardinals select TE Randy McMichael, Georgia.
McMichael is a fluid receiver with enough bulk (6-3, 250) to hold his own as a blocker.

82) New Orleans Saints select RB Chester Taylor, Toledo.
Just in case Duece McAlister is the fragile back everyone thinks.

83) Houston Texans select TE Matt Schobel, TCU.
With all the hoop-la surrounding the other TEs, Schobel has quietly emerged as a first day consideration.

84) St. Louis Rams select WR Cliff Russell, Utah.
6-0, 184 with sub 4.3/40 speed.... sounds like a Mike Martz wideout to me.

85) Seattle Seahawks select DT Dorsett Davis, Mississippi St.
Will the overachieving mentalities of John Randle and Chad Eaton rub off on the underachieving Davis? If so, the Seahawks have themselves a steal.

86) Tampa Bay Bucs select RB Maurice Morris, Oregon.
Look for the Bucs to draft a RB in the middle rounds to compliment their a FA addition like Ricky Watters.

87) Baltimore Ravens select QB Rohan Davey, LSU.
Certainly Chris Redman won't be handed the "Franchise QB" label.

88) New York Jets select RB Najeh Davenport, Miami (FL).
The addition of Davenport could make Richie Anderson expendable.

89) Indianpolis Colts select LB Jashon Sykes, Colorado.
If Sykes is completely recovered from his neck injury, the Colts have themselves a steal.

90) Miami Dolphins select C Seth McKinney, Texas A&M.
The Dolphins just can't get rid of Tim Ruddy. They tried to sign Casey Weigmann in '99, then drafted Grey Ruegamer that same year, who flopped. They lost out on Ryan Tucker in '00, and Olin Kreutz this year. McKinney could be the player that finally forces Ruddy out the door.

91) Philadelphia Eagles select TE Jerramy Stevens, Ohio St.
If Andy Reid keeps Stevens in line, look out.

92) Green Bay Packers select QB Randy Fasani, Stanford.
The Packers have already developed NFL QBs such as Mark Brunell, Ty Detmer, Kurt Warner, Matt Hasselbeck, Doug Peterson, and Aaron Brooks. Is Fasani next?

93) Chicago Bears select CB Brian Williams, North Carolina St.
The loss of Walt Harris makes the Bears' CB depth very shaky.

94) Pittsburgh Steelers select LB Algie Atkinson, Kansas.
Atkinson adds more depth to the Steelers LB core, and could take over for Jason Gildon down the road.

95) St. Louis Rams select TE Tracey Wistrom, Nebraska.
The #2 TE position is open... perhaps for Grant's brother, Tracey.

96) New England Patriots select WR Terry Charles, Portland St.
The Patriots can afford to gamble on a raw player such as Charles.

Why would the Titans give up a first, second and third round pick this year, and a fourth next year just for an unproven CB?

I can only see a team giving up that much in the draft to land either a top-notch prospect at QB or RB, really.

Other than the Titans trade, I think your mock-draft is very good. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, burgh...

Of course I have a lot of time on my hands... I'm 18 and don't have a job (In college, finished this mock on Friday afternoon)

Hey, it's great stuff. If you enjoy doing it, don't let anyone put you down by saying "You have too much time on your hands".

It's GREAT to have A LOT of time to do something you enjoy doing.

I think you're overrating Will Overstreet. I see him going in the third-fourth round, and definately not before Freeney. Besides that, your mock draft looks realistic to me.

Gotta agree here. They drafted Andre Dyson last year. He and Rolle will start.

If anything, they'll address what was already a gaping hole at safety. And now they just lost Blaine Bishop to Philly. They'd take Reed or Roy WIlliams over a CB.

Very nice job though.

NYFcat

Good insight and damn good effort! However I would respectfully disagree with Mike Williams being the 21st pick. I think he's going in the top 10 and before Bryant McKinnie.

Just my 2 cents

I don't think Fonoti will fall that far and those projected trades are questionable. It is a good mock draft but I disagree with a lot of it, but that is just me.

all right guys...

Give NYFcat a break! I find his mock draft to be very insightful.
don't let anyone put you down by saying "You have too much time on your hands".

As always, all my messages are all in good fun:p
I would never put anyone down for their hobbies. Hey, I show dogs now and then! But as he said himself:
Of course I have a lot of time on my hands... I'm 18 and don't have a job (In college, finished this mock on Friday afternoon)
Ahh, the good old days!cry: Enjoy them while they last NYFCat!
What are you studying?

journalism....

I'm majoring in mass communications now, but I'm switching to journalism next year. I was going to become a sportscaster, but now I want to be a sports writer more.

I wish I didn't work. I really do. I work 40 hrs a week at a job I hate and go to school 20 hrs a week. It really sucks.

Most of my buds in school don't work (former military, so they're getting an income from the govt), and they remind me of it every day. So that doesn't help. ;) But it'll all be over in October, when I graduate.
