So today was day 1 of my two day camp attendance. We keep reading all these media guys take on what is going on so I thought we might hear a fans perspective.

Here's what I saw from the front row:

  • On the whole the O was not nearly as bad as has been being reported in past days. Unfortunately, the OL just CANNOT contain our DL. Not even close. But the O won a lot today
  • Dallas Thomas- No way he starts this season. I don't know what the coaches see bc I see a guy going backwards on every play. It's really that bad.
  • Damian Williams- got a lot more work than I would have expected today. He really didn't look too bad, pretty strong kid
  • DVP- he didn't look hampered at all. It appeared that they eased him in today. He wasn't in a whole lot of plays but when he was he looked fast
  • Brandon Albert- Good Lord is that guy huge! Everyone has a hard time getting past him
  • Arian- Way bigger than I expected. All the reports you hear on him looking strong and explosive are correct. I was actually very impressed and I've been rather "meh" on him.
  • Wake- I want proof that this guy blew his achilles. I was very skeptical that he really was back to form, but MAN is that guy explosive off the line. Everyone he faced had a hard time containing him. They doubled him most every play he was in bc when they didn't he was all over RT. This guy isn't human
  • Landry- What more can I say. He didn't get the message that this was just practice. When he gets the ball it's 150% and he's always looking for someone to run in to and show he is alpha. Fun to watch him bow up every time he touches the ball so the D knows he got it. He's dominant and just doesn't miss the ball hardly ever.
  • I forgot his name but #82 won't be around long. Brick hands....I don't think he caught anything all day.
  • Grant- I went there with the goal of watching him intently to see if he's worthy of a roster spot. He is obviously working VERY hard on his hands bc he caught everything. He and A.J Cruz were the only one's fielding punts a kicks all of practice. (btw Cruz is about the same size and is a very quick kid. ultra shifty) Grant only dropped one punt all practice and it was barely in bounds on the run and right into a crowd of players standing around. He made some great grabs today with solid technique. One handed grab that got the crowd a little rowdy. He stayed after and worked on more punts from the machine. Finally.....that kid is as FAST as advertised. When he gets the open field that is all she wrote!! Got through on one punt return and just turned it on and even having an angle on him didn't matter.

I didn't get to see much of the D's drills, they kept going to the far side of the field. When I did see them nothing really shined in any great way, other than I was kind of impressed with Branch. I kept commenting that it was hard to notice that #50 wasn't Vernon.
I did become a larger fan of Michael Thomas (as you'll see below he posed for a pic with my nephew and was the only player to come to the fence where the fans were. He stayed for a very long time and didn't turn a single person away)

Tannehill- When you hear that Gase and he are attached, they are correct. Where Tannehill goes....so goes Gase. Without exception. He had a couple throws that were a little suspect but I thought it was decent for the most part. He got plenty of work on his pocket presence bc the pocket turned to a meeting room for the D on most of the plays on 11 vs 11. Obviously when it was 1 on 1's and 7 on 7 he was flawless and deadly accurate on everything. When the OL is in it creates such a disaster he has to improvise constantly...but he handled it great from my opinion. I don't want to hear another person say that he doesn't have "it" when it comes to being a leader of this O. At one point he pulled Grant aside after a play (it was the 2's and RT wasn't even playing) and spent time coaching him his route. He did it multiple times with even Landry and any other WR didn't do their job. He was clearly leading and it was not forced. His confidence was clear and present.
After practice ended all the QB's went to the 35 yard line and worked on throwing long high passes into a garbage can placed in the back corner of the endzone. Over and over not a single one could even make contact with the can, except......Tannehill. Dropped it straight in. 3rd try on the right side and very first try on the left side. 20 or more tries by the other three QB's and they couldn't even hit the can.

That's my take. Feel free to ask about anyone that I didn't mention and if I noticed anything I'll comment. I'm going to try to post a couple pics I got. Going back tomorrow too so hopefully whatever I missed I can pick up on tomorrow.

Thank God he made the passes cause the twitter hacks would've gone into overdrive and yet did any of them report a considerable positive?

Interesting

Awesome write up... looks like you had some fun! thanks!

Nice recap. Glad to hear wake, foster and Parker all look fresh. The Dallas Thomas thing is hopefully just a Gase being tough on rookies and making Tunsil earn it, it's too apparent to anyone he should not be starting.

I hate that back corner of the end zone throw. It is such a low percentage pass. Why do we do it in games and why do we practice it? You have an entire field to work with, and you are going to try to make your QB and receiver thread the eye of a needle. From this comment, I'd say I am not impressed with the Offensive Coordinator.

That exact pass happened in 11 on 11's and RT dropped it perfectly to Whalen for the TD. It was the best throw of practice and saying he threw it perfect in an understatement.
