A lot of us bagged on him for going for the FG at the end of the second quarter last week vs. Pittsburgh. But by going for it on 4th and 5 today, even with Nantz and Simms saying they should punt, I give Philbin kudos for letting his nut sack drop a bit more today.

Joe is also 15-15 as a head coach after today.

Absolutely HUGE call. Very ballsy. If that backfires, we are all killing Philbin right now and probably lamenting how we let the game slip away. Charles Clay was MONEY to make that guy miss and pick up the first.

I would have been super pissed if they punted, we were not going to stop their offense. It was a great move to go for it and also the usage of timeouts at the end of the first half to give the offense time to get a score. Two big moves by Philbin today.

He is able to take more chances, as Tannehill grows. The ebb and flow of this game, especially late, was in MIAs offensive favor. The were playing at a nice level today.

THAT'S what happens when you play to win..... not play to play it safe

Philbin deserves a lot of praise, not just for his use of timeouts in the first half today or going for it on fourth down, but for the entire season. All seasons have ups and downs, but Miami obviously had a big one mid season with all this bully crap. He kept the team fighting and now in December are playing some of the best football of the season. A trip to the playoffs is in sights and football is finally back in Miami.

I have to admit that after that Buccaneers loss I was so pissed at all the drama and losing to Tampa that I wanted to pull the plug on everything. Ireland, Philbin, etc. I also have to admit I was dead wrong and I am proud to have to admit that. Philbin isn't going anywhere after this season and he deserves to stay and he has certainly won my confidence in him back. As for Ireland, there is part of me that is just tired of the drama surrounding him and some of his more high profile mistakes, but you can't deny that he put together a pretty good team this season. Granted there are weaknesses, but this is also a team that has shown it can compete and beat the AFC's elite like the Patriots, Colts and Bengals.

When everyone was complaining about PhilbinS game management I was defending him and have thought for almost 2 years now that he has been excellent on game days. Everyone whined and complained about Sporanos lack of aggression and always playing it safe and now that we have a HC with some balls they still complain that we should punt or not call timeouts to try to get the ball back and score more points... give me a break

Big call. He knew the secondary was in deep trouble, and giving the ball back to the Pats might mean they run out the clock and Tannehill never gets a chance to touch the ball again. Charles Clay made it work. Amazing 5 yards from him. Biggest 5 yards in many years for this franchise.

I've ripped Tannehill for missing open receivers deep....but he was awesome today. Awesome. Best QB performance for the Dolphins since Dan.

I didn't want to have Philbin and crew fired after Tampa Bay....hell I thought the season was over after the loss to NE 6 weeks ago. Then I had some hope that got dashed in the loss to the Bucs. But now you have to believe just a bit that they are turning the corner. It's fast-paced, heart-attack inducing every week but that's life.

I've been a Philbin supporter from the time he was hired. His quiet confidence has started to show in his development of Tannehill. Tannehill is developing because of Coach Philbin, not in spite of him. And that is why I am huge supporter of his. If this QB continues to develop at this rate, Coach and this team will be set for a long time.

Huge balls going for it on 4th and 5....

Mad props to smokey joe..i think the guy has really mellowed down. I wish he was like this ten weeks ago. Great call too, give it to the guy who can get you the yac.

I was hard on philbin after our 4th loss but he has redeemed himself in my book.

He looked like billy bob thorton in sling blade today and he delivered the deadly blow on that 4th down call.

Keep it up joe!

That was crazy! I absolutely about wizzed myself when that happened. There has to be a belief on this team that they are big
