My plan to have a SB window from 2028 to 2031

Drake Maye’s emergence makes tearing it down a more inviting option.

We aren’t chasing one team anymore. We are well behind two

Let’s pump the brakes on the pats a little. They’ve have a juggernaut of a schedule of us, raiders, panthers, saints, titans, browns and falcons. So far there record is on pace to go down as tied for the 3rd easiest schedule of all time and the other 3 were 14 game seasons making it easier to have an easier schedule. Easiest schedule in the last 50 years.

Not taking anything away definitely improved but lets use a little logic and not crown them the next dynasty here. Not exactly blowing these teams out either. Had dog fights with us, atl and the saints and lost to the raiders.

"Let's" pump the brakes? You got a mouse in your skivvies?

When I said in the pre-season that I believed the Pats would be much improved, the response was, "why, cuz they got a meathead coach?" etc. That aged well.

Maye has made some absolute baller plays this season, with legs and arm...he's flashing heavy, with plenty of arm talent. He's #2 in passer rating and #4 in yards. If he was playing like he is, in a Dolphins uniform, he'd already have a statue and a legion of sack swingers...well, maybe not a statue.

Strange you left out how they beat the Bills....AT Buffalo...something this franchise fantasizes about. They also blew out the Panthers (beat us), and the Browns (shredded and embarrassed us).

Ya they have an easy schedule...they finished last in the division last year...that's how it works. You can only play who is on your schedule...if they lose 2 or 3 against the remaining good teams on their schedule, then ya, they're paper-tiger'ish (we know ALL about that kinda action). I'm expecting them to take 2 of 3, we'll see.

He's in his 2nd year and has a new HC, with no big name targets, except maybe a 31 year old Diggs. McDaniels is proving again he is a stellar OC. Their situation and outlook are excellent, with a REAL shot at winning the division this year...only 2 tough games left on the schedule (Buffalo and Baltimore), maybe 3 with Tampa Bay. If they go 2 out of 3 in those, they could very well go 14-3 this year. SOS is fluid until the end of the season.

He and his team are still young...and he's still learning. I'm not saying he's the 2nd coming of Brady or anywhere in that universe, but he seems to be very mature and football-smart for 2nd year QB. A lot of folks believe all Vrabel was missing in Tennessee was a very good QB...I'd one-up it and say they needed a better OC and QB. They went to the AFCCG with Tannehill, but that was mostly all Henry and the defense in the playoffs.

You don't need to be crowning some team as a dynasty to realize they're far better off than our team, vastly improved over one season ago, and look like they could be very good for years to come.

I don't get the infatuation with Riddick. Just because he's in front of the camera and he was a scout and then Director of player personnel by a bad Redskins franchise, then hired as a scout again. Sorry, I'm tired of the narrative. I'd like someone with experience, or someone that is currently working in a good front office and has show he is ready to take the reigns. I don't believe Riddick checks either of those boxes, but he's on TV and everyone hears his opinions.

I think NE is definitely trending up. Their schedule is soft, but they are winning the games they are supposed to win. That being said, they have barely squeaked out most of those wins. They only play 2 teams with a winning record the rest of the season so I’m sure they will pad their record. I think they are closer to a .500 team than a playoff contender still.

Only 5 games on the season vs teams with winning records on the season is pretty low, ya, and that's if Baltimore gets back to the positive (probably, IMO). They've already won 2 of 'em though.

If they go down in flames, you can laugh at them as everyone laughed at the Dolphins. But they're clearly trending up.

This is a team that the Dolphins swept last year and manhandled in Miami. The teams have gone in opposite directions since then. A lot of it has to do with the qb, and a lot of it has to do with the Pats having the stones to drop a failed coach in favor of someone that gets the job done. There's no reason to assume they'll be worse next season; they may well be better.

Yeah that’s fine like I said clearly improving but like I said let’s not crown them the next kings or a legit team after they’ve had the easiest schedule in the last 50 years. Not to mention Maye only played a handful of games last year and new coach new system. Think we’ve seen with our own eyes how fast teams adapt and things get tougher. Everyone rushed to crown stroud the next big qb and Texans a good team and now look. Everyone did the same with Daniels last year and now look.

Right. The only downside is that a new GM will be taking over a roster built by Grier. A good GM knows that you win in the trenches, a strong defense, o-line, and running game are a must-have, you build through the draft, you stay away from injury-prone players, and you don't give out bad contracts.

However, Grier did the opposite, so the next GM will have a lot of players to replace and will be stuck with some bad contracts and dead money. It might be a while before Miami can compete for a Super Bowl, but we could get lucky if they hire the right people. Making the playoffs and winning a playoff game in year two would be awesome!
This!

Sell off all assets except Patrick Paul in the next couple of days including Waddle and Achane if we get good value since they dont fit this timeline.

Hire Louis Riddck to be the next GM and let him hire McDaniel's replacement as the next HC after the season.

Release Tua and Tyreek after the season and take the massive dead salary cap hits in 2026 so we can clean up our books in 2026 since winning in 2026 is not a priority. Its just about developing our young players.

We should have a very high draft pick in 2026 so if we can trade down and get good value to restock the roster with good cheap young talent and lay a foundation for our future then do it.

Sign a cheap FA QB to compete with Ewers to be the starting QB in 2026. We could even re-sign Wilson. Again the QB doesn't have to be good just cheap since we dont want a repeat of Fitzpatrick in 2019 winning too many games.

Then draft a QB early in the 2027 draft. Everybody seems to think the 2027 draft class is much better than the 2026 draft class anyway. I still think Manning is going to be very good and he should be in the 2027 draft but it doesn't necessarily have to be him.

We will have some available cap space in 2027 since we are taking the financial pain in 2026 so we can sign some Free Agents but dont go on an irresponsible spending spree like Grier did in 2020. Be prudent and selective about signing players who fit our timeline of 2028 to 2031.

Have another good draft and Free Agency in 2028 and we should be ready to compete for Superbowls for the next 4 years. We should have a quality roster by then and the QB who we select in 2027 will be in his 2nd season and we will have him on his rookie contract for 3 more years and then have him on his 5th year option in 2031 before we have to really pay him.

This is basically what the Patriots have done. 2025 is for them what I am hoping 2028 will be for us. QB in his 2nd season and they drafted and spent wisely this past offseason. Their window is from 2025 through 2028 until they will have to pay Maye.

I am hoping that Ross will have the vision and patience to follow through on such a plan. My fear is that he continues to take shortcuts and do half measures and bring Tua back since he has to pay him so much next year and restructure his contract committing ourselves to him beyond 2026 to create more cap space to field a more competitive team next year and since Tua would be coming back he brings McDaniel back since they are linked together. Then we have another 8-9 season. Then we finally move on from Tua and reach in the draft for another Tannehill type QB guaranteeing that we stay on the mediocrity merry go round.
It’s a plan…but if everything goes right.

It took Jimmy Johnson four years to take a Dallas team that was very similar to ours and rebuild it from the ground up. Almost everything went right.

More realistically, I think that the earliest that we get back to winning 8 games is 2028. Almost the entire team needs to be replaced, and replaced through the draft and not free agency.

Tearing it down makes no sense at all other the appease a few frustrated fans
There are quality players on the current Roster and a few adjustments can fix this mess. You would be amazed at what a quality QB can do.

A last place schedule would really help us . It helped pats out. It is huge factor

The Patriots had the number 3 and 4 picks in the draft the past 2 years and are going to make the playoffs and maybe even win the division this year. So it can be turned around quickly and I dont even consider 2028 to be turning things around that quickly.

The key person is Ross. It reason why Ross team hasn't win playoff game in 16 yr.
