Ok, I usually don't do many of these speculation type things, but I just had the urge to today. I won't do any type of speculation when it comes to restructuring contracts to save cap space, but I'll try to keep this as realistic as possible when it comes to money. According to the St. Pete Times, we have about $17.8 million in cap space, although I'm not sure how accurate that is. So without further adeu...

Dolphins Free Agents

Re-sign (unrestricted FAs):

FB Darrian Barnes - he's been solid for us.
DE David Bowens - he's a solid backup, and shouldn't command too much money.
OG Kendyl Jacox - not that he's any good, but we can keep him for some cheap o-line depth.
RB Sammy Morris - good ST player and decent backup RB.
DT Keith Traylor - if he doesn't retire, we need him for another year bigtime.
LB Donnie Spragan - again, not that he's great, but I think we can keep him for relatively cheap for depth/spot starter.

Release (unrestricted FAs):

LB Keith Adams
OG Toniu Fonoti
DT Vonnie Holliday - had a great year, but we have several young guys on the line that have potential, and Holliday may be looking for a decent payday.
CB Michael Lehan
OT Damian McIntosh
RB Travis Minor
LB Keith Newman
SS Travares Tillman
DT Jeff Zgonina

RFAs

There is a new tender that is being added this year: a 2nd round tender. So now there is a 1st and 3rd round tender, 1st round tender, 2nd round tender, and then the original round tender. Here are the recently set tender levels: http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1723917 So here's what I say we should do:

Yeremiah Bell: Original round tender (6th round)
Eddie Jackson: no tender
Donnie Jones: 2nd round tender
Cleo Lemon: 2nd round tender
Wes Welker: Original round tender (no compensation, but we should try to match)

Cuts (or try to trade)

QB Joey Harrington - We try to trade him for a late round pick first, but if that doesn't work, we cut him (and keep Culpepper BTW
clear.gif
)

OG Bennie Anderson - Why on earth did we ever sign him?

OG Seth McKinney - I see on the cap page he has $2.5 million in "other bonuses," so I'm not sure how that would work out.

DT Dan Wilkinson

DE Kevin Carter – Would like to restructure with him, but he has a huge cap number and he’s getting old. I thought he did a great job this year, but he’s gonna have to go if we can’t restructure.

Free Agent Signings

OT Leonard Davis - I haven't heard his name mentioned much, but in my opinion he should be our top priority to get the stud, mammoth LT that we haven't had since Webb. However, if he is unavailable, we have to go after Nate Clements/Asante Samuel. I think it's a must for us to sign either one of these 3 guys for our (in my opinion) one allotted BIG FA signing, but I'd prefer Leonard Davis.

CB Ricky Manning, Jr. - I'd say he can be one of our mid-level free agents for our craptastic secondary.

OG Vince Manuwai – Good guard who will definitely start for us.

I'm sure that we'd sign some other free agents for depth purposes as well...

Draft

I would like to trade down, but that doesn't seem to be too realistic as I've wanted us to trade down in the draft for several years in a row now, but it hasn't happened...

1. DE/OLB Gaines Adams, Clemson – He has the ability to be a Merriman type of player as he played both on the line as a DE and standing up as a LB.

2. WR Sidney Rice, South Carolina – He’s raw, but has a lot potential to be a great reciever as shown at SC. I think he’s a gamble worth taking if he falls to the 2nd round.
3. CB Aaron Ross, Texas – Good player who has the opportunity to start right away

4. DT Kareem Brown, Miami – Never really reached his potential at the U, but he has a chance to be a starter in the future.

6. QB Justin Rascati, James Madison – One of the best players in non-D1A football this year.

7. RB Ramonce Taylor, Texas – Was a great runningback when at UT, however he ran into some legal troubles, and therefore now has big character issues. However I think he has good potential to be a slasher at the next level.

So flame away and thanks for reading. :D

Why cut Fonoti? He might very well start for us next year.

I think moving J. Allen over to CB will strengthen our secondary. Hill and Bell did a pretty decent job at our safety positions.

I agree with grabbing L. Davis because he would be a true upgrade at LT. He hasn't lived up to expectations but I think HH can work with him.

I think we can wait another yr to pickup another defensive end/lb. Roth is going to be a stud as long as he continues improve. JT has got two to three yrs left in him if we're somewhat successful this year. If anything draft a DE in the second round. First round pick has got to go to offensive talent.

I agree with most of your signings and cuts. Except for Fonoti. That guy is a beast and with the right motivation could be a monster on the oline.

Nice job, very well thought out. We all appreciate stuff like this!

If Sidney Rice falls to the 2nd, and we don't pounce all over him, I will start the demolition for the addition on my house alittle early. He'll never fall that far though.

Your really not changing much of anything and your projected first round pick probably won't see much playing time his rookie season. Rice won't start in front of Hagen whats the point in drafting him. How are we supposed to improve? I think we need to add playmakers who are going to make an immediate impact. We also need to make a trade or two to improve our draft.

I live in VA and have been going to JMU games for 2 years and Riscati is solid. He is going to be a steal late in the draft and his numbers are great. High completion % and he's got good pocket awareness. They criticize his deep ball but i saw some solid 30-40 yard completions for TD's this season. If we can't get Stanton in the 2nd or we choose not to, we need a young guy late that we can mold.

We also need OL in the first, that is definetly where we are lacking. If any of our QB's or RB's can get any protection they'll be fine. Adams is a great pick.

Well, to me the best way to speculate is based on what's been revealed by Mueller and Cameron so far:

Mueller =

SPEED at WR...with phinsider stating he has STALWORTH on his radar
RUSHING OLB...?
RE-SIGNING our FAs...LEMON, BELL, BOWENS, and BARNES

HOLIDAY has initiated conversations and stated he'd be willing to take a lower than market value but "reasonable" contract to stay...

Cameron =

Builds from the INSIDE of the OLINE out...?

So far that's what we've heard from the guys that matter...

Keep Fonoti, if he stays in shape he's a road grader and could dramatically improve our OL, plus he won't command much on FA market because of his weight problems.

You totally ignored our OL, so what's the point of getting new WR's or improving the D if our OL isn't going to give Daunte time or open holes for the running game? Cam said rebuild offense from inside out, he will address our OL this off season, count on it. We have a few good OL players, if they can stay healthy, we just need a solid LT and new Center IMHO. Levi Brown in 1st round, a new center in 3rd or 4th round, those are my draft desires.

Not a bad assessment. The #9 pick in the draft will depend heavily on who is our big FA signee.

If we sign a CB, then I see Levi Brown. If we sign say Steinbach, Dielman, or Davis, then I see Nelson or Landry as our pick.

Also there is always a chance Gaines Adams falls to #9. Then, in that case, a S or CB can be our 2nd round pick.

We can also always sign a real good LG and move Shelton back to LT. I like Fonoti and Toledo battling it out for RG in that scenario.

Our second round pick should be a rushing OLB, as this seems to be a position that will have a Woodley, Poluzsny, Willis, or Moses dropping to the #39 pick.

But besides who is our "big" FA signee...I think Booker will be cut clearing $3.1mil and Welker will be let go so that we can come up with about $5mil to sign Dante Stalworth.

With Lelie, Curtis, and a deep WR draft will lower Stalworth's market value.

I'd be very happy if thats the way our off-season turned out, I'd only make a few changes. Like others have said, Fonoti is probably worth keeping around, his talent is greater than what we're paying him. I'd prefer not to go after Leonard Davis either, he never really turned out to be the player he was expected to be leaving college. He is a solid lineman, but overated in my opinion. I'd much rather see that money go towards Asante Samuel.

I absolutely love the draft, partly because its somewhat unrealistic. We would be very, very lucky to have Gaines Adams slide to us in the first. Sidney Rice probably will be gone in the first round. And it would be surprising to see Aaron Ross on the board in the third as well. I would be thrilled if it turned out like this, but I just don't see it happening.

Thanks for the replies guys. I just have one comment about the draft being unrealistic. Although all three of the first picks that I have projected may not be available at those respective spots, I think it's entirely possible. First of all, with Gaines Adams, it's very possible that he slides to #9, if Russell, Quinn, Peterson, Calvin Johnson, Jarrett, Joe Thomas, Jamaal Anderson, and Branch are taken with the 1st 8 picks (not in that order), then Adams is ours for the taking. With our 2nd round pick, Sidney Rice is projected to go late 1st-early 2nd, and we have an early 2nd round pick. It's quite possible that 5 recievers could go ahead of Rice (Johnson, Jarrett, Ginn, Bowe, and Meacham). Ross, I'll admit, may be the one sizeable stretch in my mock. However, people have questioned his speed and his aggressiveness, and if he runs in the 4.5 range at the combine, GMs may look down upon that.
