Not meant to be a 'the sky is falling' thread, but these are my legitimate questions after being at the game. If you can answer for me (not sarcastically, but legitimately), I would appreciate it.
1. All I could think about in the moments after the final drive was, 'If Wilford is in there for those jump balls, we have a FAR better chance at scoring'. I mean, really. We were throwing fade passes to Bess and Ginn, and had a 6'4 receiver in street clothes on the sidelines. You have two options here. One, play Ernest. Two, dont run fade routes to receivers that are shorter than the DBs. Put in London if you feel you have to run these plays. Agree?
2. Why was Michael Lehan held out? He played in the preseason, and its not like we have an abundance of capable corners. Was it injury related? Was it just precautionary? Because I have never been a big Andre Goodman guy, and he was getting picked on. Will Allen, meanwhile, held his ground against Coles, for the most part.
3. Run the ball on 3rd and goal from the two. I know its not a question, but it has to be said. I didnt mind the 4th down call, because it was open for a split second, and it was a safe throw. The DB played it beautifully, and the pass was just a bit late.
4. Why is Patrick Cobbs getting in the game on third down? Last I checked, we have two MORE than capable backs in Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, both of whom block and catch the ball effectively. Its actually some of Ronnie's biggest strengths. For that matter, is Cobbs active over Parmele because of special teams? I have to think so, and I can handle that, since the third back shouldnt get many snaps with our situation at RB. But there comes a point where you have to take your best players, and not your best special teamers, especially if they are guys that are going to get some snaps on first, second and third downs. The wideout situation, with Camarillo and London (and Bess) in there over Wilford is what I'm talking about. I mean, is London making some fantastic special teams contribution that some other LB/DB isnt making that I am missing?
Again, dont mean to make this another complaint thread, these are just some of the key issues that I have been considering, and I'm looking for some input.
