After seeing the Angels and A's brawl last night, baseball needs to do somethign about all this body armor these players are wearing. Kendall tried to let the breaking ball hit him knowing it wouldnt hurt with all that armor on his arm.

All of these players like bonds and kendall are basically over the plate with the armor and get hit and get free bases. They dont allow the pitchers any room is pitch inside because if they do they will move their arm to the pitch and take their bases.

:yeahthat:

That's the difference between pitchers today and pitchers 20 years ago. Pitchers 20 years ago would throw up and in at hitters knocking them on their butts and to let them know the pitcher owns the inside half of the plate. You never see that anymore in today's game (granted guys like Clemens and Pedro still do).

A perfect example is Matsui in the 2004 ALCS was hitting the crap out of the ball batting well over .500 until Pedro threw up and in under his chin knocking him down in Game 5 and Matsui didn't get another hit after that.

Pitchers are being held by the hands by these coaches, whether it be by pitch counts or pitching inside or whatever. They need to get the fire back and start controlling the game rather than having the hitters with armor on have their way all the time.

Ok I'm done with my rant now.

I so was going to mention Matsui.. That is the perfect example.. No doubt on of the reasons Clemens and Pedro have been so successful is there ability and willingness to throw hard inside.. It helps that these guys have great control also..

i disagree. these pitchers now adays throw way to hard to not protect the elbow, which is broken pretty often when hit there without padding. If you dont want them hanging over the plate, THROW INSIDE! these pitchers are ******* now a days. Thats why i love Pedro so much. If a guy is hanging over the plate, hit the inside corner!

and i dont know what highlight you were watching, Kendall did move. and to the other point, big surprise a hard knose baseball player would let a breaking ball him. Its not going to hurt without the padding unless it hits directly on the elbow. Hell in highschool we used to rag on our players who moved away from a curve....

I guess Kendall has a history just like John Lackey has a history of running his mouth at opposing players. This is only for the American League but pitchers can basically hit anybody they want and nothing is going to happen to them because they don't have to hit.

Pitchers have been throwing that hard for decades. Bob Feller was pitching around 100 mph 60 years ago.

And I agree with the thread starter. The body armor needs to go. It allows hitters to dive into the plate w/o fear.

what the hell does rant mean?
rant (r
abreve-1.gif
nt)v. rant·ed, rant·ing, rants
v.intr. To speak or write in a angry or violent manner; rave.

v.tr. To utter or express with violence or extravagance: a dictator who ranted his vitriol onto a captive audience.

n.1. Violent or extravagant speech or writing.

If the armor is being worn regularly then i could see it, but not how kendall and bonds use it to stick their arm over the plate
