Ross is currently a substandard owner. His whole "I need celebrities" to attract fans rather than putting a good product on the field is a joke. This is not LA. Even in LA the celebrities do not show unless the team wins. Nobody really likes to align themselves with a lousy team unless you bought minority shares.
It didn't work for the Raiders and Rams in LA and it won't work here. And this whole orange carpet crap is more than despicable.

This franchise, under Ross' "leadership", is turning away even the most die hard Dolfans. We are on the way of becoming another LA Raider or LA Rams in South Florida: a team nobody gives a crap. We are currently not just losing the newer fan base but the old base is now turning away as well.

But it is always a chain of command: if the ownership is crap so is - usually - the coaching and recruiting staff. Sparano and Ireland are two left-overs from the now failed Parcell's era (as short lived as it was). Both just need to go. This team gotten worse every year. The 11-5 season was more attributed to Chad Pennington being a mature, level headed, good game managing QB who essentially was a leader and was able to pull the team with him. And a little the surprising wild cat offense which at that time surprised everybody - even us.
The 7-9 seasons look similar by record but the quality of the team just decreased from one year to the next. And now we are - once again - on the rope of futility.

The quality of ownership is currently reflected in the quality of the coaching staff. What other coach celebrates every FG like we just kicked the game winning FG with time running out in the Super Bowl? Most just give a clap or just stare and wonder 'how could we get the ball in the end zone next time".
This is pro-football not a Pee-Wee league where everybody gets a trophy for participation at the end of the season.

If you make a change in philosophy when a person departs, quits or gets fired you have to let everybody go who was part of the initial product. Parcell left and Ireland and Sparano should have immediately followed. Otherwise you essentially just have leftovers.

And of course the team is a reflection of the coaching staff. The team this year is just simply BAD! Bad starting QB, incompetent receivers who play when they want to (Marshall reminds me right now of the bad side of Moss in his 'best years' and plays when he wants to play), our OL is in total dissarray (and isn't Saparano our OL guru) and our defense has more holes than a swiss cheese. The team looks overmatched in every game and even the basics seems to be missing, like tackling, covering receivers etc.
Sparano was a starting center in college, started as OL coach and has held this job many times throughout his coaching career. Yet after 4 years we have literally a pieced-together OL. I think this is the worst OL we have ever had. They can't block for anybody or anything. It is horrendous to watch.

I really do not care who is at fault: Ireland, Sparano, J-Lo, Marc Anthony.....Sparano and Ireland are in bed together (just like Marc and J-Lo were) and if they can not agree on anything, please, take that little fight somewhere else (see Marc and J-Lo). And if they are actually in agreement. That is even worse. (just for the record: J-Lo and Marc didn't agree except on separartion).

[Sorry for the Marc and J-Lo references but if you have an owner who is more infatuated who will be shown on the jumbotron than the product on the field you have to speak celebrity.]

And I really don't want to hear from the team anymore. Dearest media...don't ask them any questions anymore, especially not "how are you feeling" or the likes. I am so sick of hearing "we just didn't execute", "we have to do a better job", "we need players to step up" etc. Gee whiz. Really?

What to do? Some say 'fire Sparano now', some say "it wouldn't make a difference". I believe the latter: it wouldn't make a difference. But I still would fire them both, now. I want everybody to know that the Miami Dolphins will be in the market for a new coach and a new GM - now or after the season. Since Ross has as much clue about the Xs and Os in Pro Football as Huyzengah did, I recommend to Ross: ask and get opinions!
Huyzengah did it. He just didn't take the advice.
Go to the establishment and look for their suggestions. Why? Because often there can be found a gem amongst the relative unknowns. Guys like Parcell's are no draft guru's. They are really coaches. Guys like Ron Wolf are. Huizenga pursuit him once but he declined. And Spielman was promoted. But Ron Wolf could have been the biggest success story of the Miami Dolphins without an employment: he suggested a relative unknown from his time in Green Bay - Ted Thompson. Back then he was in Seattle. He closed the year out and based on his personnel decisions Seattle won (in his absence) the NFC Championship.
But where did he go?
Like the Green bay Packers?
Today's Packers have the name "Ted Thompson" stamped all over. He took over the entire operations in Green Bay after Wolf suggested him to the Packers (after we declined and rejected him). He was just not too flashy for us. No big name. But he was good enough for Green Bay. Thompson brought a philosophy and a vision to Green Bay and he pursuit that philosophy and vision. Thompson was the one who went through the Favre mess and succeeded with Aaron Rodgers. They won a Superbowl and the team looks absolutely stunning and ready for consecutive Superbowls.
Who did we get? Flashy names: Saban. We kept Spielman. Than came Randy Mueller (another flashy name) who hired Cam Cameron and then came Parcell's who brought Sparano and Ireland (from flashy Dallas).

Waiting until the season ends would give us nothing but rushed decisions. Open up the spots now and start looking. Give yourself the opportunity and asked for recommendations. I do not hink it would violate league rules to hire a new GM for next season before the season is over. Ask for permission to interview based on recommendations. It also clears a lot of uncertainties for future draft picks. Go through the motions NOW and do it publicly and avoid a disaster like last year when you put all your marbles in one bag just to look like a fool.

Mr Ross, a football team is no dead property like real estate. A football team is a living and breathing endeavour whose success relies on emotions and exitement from the coaching staff to players and fans. Right now you have taken it away (except Sparano and his emotional outbursts after FGs). We are no Hollywood either. That stupid Orange Carpet won't fill the orange seats: Success and excitement does though. If you see the Dolphins as a piece of property take a hike and take this franchise with you. I hear your friend Anschuetz is looking for a tenant in his new LA Stadium soon. We'll start over like the Browns did.
If you actually care take my advice and fire Sparano and Irleland now, complete the season with an interims coach and some dignity. It really can't get any worse. Because right now, anybody could coach the team and looks as 'good' as Sparano - even Marc Anthony (as Ireland) and J-Lo (as Sparano).
What are you scared off?
That nobody comes to the stadium anymore? Oh wait. Check.
That we lose games? Oh wait. Check.
That we look like a Pee-wee team? Oh wait. Check that too.

Start your search for a GM now. Look deep, look for quality, get advice. Get a flashy name if it fits but don't get a flashy name just because it fits your need for celebrities. With that Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are out. Sorry.

Now would be the right time with a bye week coming up. It gives you a chance to look and interview and if you find someone that person can already create his own vision for the Miami Dolphins. Keeping a bad marriage together just for the sakes of it or for the public image usually doesn't work well (just ask J-Lo and Marc). A quick and painless separation is often the best solutions and the kids (in this case us) will appreciate that (just ask J-Lo and Marc).

It really can't get any worse. Believe me. It can't.

I actually think that if the team was winning, Ross's focus on "entertainment" would make this franchise stand out and earn Ross lots of money.

Imagine tuning in to Monday Night Football to watch a winning Dolphins team, and seeing the MNF pregame focus on the entrance of the celebrities into the stadium and the "nightlife" sort of atmosphere going on.

Not saying I care about all that personally, but I do think it's a money-maker if you couple it with a winning team.

I highlighted the important phrase. That's just it. Ross is more concerned about getting celebrities than worrying about football. In LA it didn't work either. Teams lose and no matter the celebrity the team won't have extra people in the stands.

First you worry about the product, then you can package it. Not the other way around because no matter how flashy the package is, the product still sucks.

I think we really don't know what Ross's priorities are in this regard. He bought a franchise that had Bill Parcells in charge of football, with two guys Parcells endorsed running the show. That hasn't turned out too well for Ross.

How Ross handles the transition from the Parcells era to the new one will tell us what his priorities are IMO. I'm encouraged by the fact that he was fast after Jim Harbaugh.

It's perfectly conceivable that winning could be just as much a priority (or more of one) for him.

Anything is conceivable. Sparano could be the next Bellichek. Ireland could be the next Ted Thompson. But conceivable often contradicts reality. Actions speak louder. Ross hasn't done anything to better the product.
Ross is a successful business man but success in business does not necessarily translate into success owning a sports franchise. Now is his time to make the changes thus my rant. While enveloped in a rant it is a plea to Ross to show how much the product is worth to him or if he only cares about celebrities.

It is up to him now to define the future of this franchise. Are we becoming another Detroit or Bengals for decades to come or is he pulling the trigger now?

I think that everyone forgets that Ross inherited the Parcells system from Huizenga.

He needs time to clean the house but HE NEEDS TO CLEAN THE HOUSE.

clean house!!!!!

Yeah, I'm getting pretty sick of the whole "Ross cares more about celebrities and glamor than he does about winning" BS. Is it not possible to do both? As stated, he inherited this mess from Huizenga, at a time when there was a sense that we were on the right track with Parcells guiding a rebuilding project, and winning the division. If we were a winning franchise, the whole celebrity, orange carpet South Beach schtick would be fun and add extra entertainment. But he knows that ultimately, he has to put a winning team on the field for anything to matter. He actively pursued a hot, young coach that was destined to coach in California, but at least he tried. What else should he have done? Fired everybody in the middle of a lockout, with no real idea what the future of the season was? Step in a la Snyder or Al Davis and try to run the show?

It's not as if he was recruiting celebrities and adding the glitz instead of improving the team. He was controlling about all that he had to control at the time, trying to add something to the stadium experience. Now that it's clear that changes must be made, we'll see how he handles it. I'm not saying I'm a huge fan, but I haven't seen him do anything monumentally wrong yet, either. We will know soon, won't we?

Ross tried hard to get Harbaugh, who I am very disappointed he couldn't land. I can't blame him for trying. I like what Harbaugh is doing in SF and I think he would have been a great hire.

I'm not thrilled with everything Ross has done (Fins up? I want to vomit), but let's wait and see how this offseason plays out. Tony is gone and Ireland might be, too. Let's see who he brings in.

It's just ghey.

And no offense, I don't mean in a sexual orientation way, I just mean ghey as in the exact opposite of what u wNt in ur football team. It's one thing for an NBA team but not for football. Just no.

He sure as hell better fire Ireland. I don't care if he's connected to Carl Peterson or Tuna or the effin Pope. Ireland has been the biggest reason behind this mess (him and Tuna).

Every single draft pick has been a disaster - either total busts or good players taken at the expense of great players at more critical positions. And FA and trades have been worse.

Actually he foot the bill on Brandon Marshall and Karlos Dansby, and he tried to get the best up-and-coming coach in the business last offseason.

Now, what evidence is there that he isn't willing to shell out the cash to improve the team?

You could argue Kyle Orton, but I think that was a decision with the strong possibility of a new regime in mind. You can't attract a new regime if it feels hamstrung to a QB it doesn't want and to whom you've already given a long-term contract.

It is ironic how you all play with two different sets of cards. Sparano should be gone after season 3 (last year) and Ross gets credit for something that did not happen (trying to get the best up and coming coach). Ross is in its 4th year of ownership and 3rd year as majority owner. We are still hanging on to the staff which should have been gone last year. You might as well give Sparano credit for all the wins which didn't happen.

At this point in time Ross deserves criticism just like Sparano and Ireland and co. The team did not improve under his ownership, the opposite, we regressed.

We're in agreement that Sparano should've been gone after last year, but I think that should've come primarily in the form of hiring someone to replace Parcells so that the decision could be made by that person. That may be where Ross is deficient, but I don't think that necessarily says anything about his willingness to support winning, financially speaking.

In the long run, I think Ross will be better for this team than Huizenga. Huizenga never really cared about the Dolphins.....his motto has always been "sell high". He did it with Waste Management, he did it with Blockbuster, he did it with the Marlins. And, now, he did it with the Dolphins. Huizenga made his money and he was done. He didn't care about the fan or the future of the team. Ross is a smart Billionaire and has a passion for the Dolphins. He wants the game experience to be fun and exciting. He's taking care of one end and he expects his GM and coaching staff to take care of the "winning" part. It's not happening and he sees this. He will be aggressive later this season and during the next off-season to get the proper staffing.
