First, it's pretty much a given that these guys are connected as a new GM will want their guy

Reasons for Keeping:

1. After two seasons the team has shown minimal but some improvement that makes you think they could be close
2. Young QB that understands the west coast system and you don't want to stall that growth
3. Lots of injuries to key players (Keller, Gibson, Binns, Patterson, etc)
4. Has a coach ever dealt with more drama mid season. Geez it's a miracle they won a game after Halloween

Reasons for Firing:

1. You make your bed you have to lie in it
- Philbin wanted Wallace over Marshall
- sturgis over carpenter
- Ellerbe over Dansby
- wheeler over Burnett
- EGNEW
- No freaking fullback (vontae leach anybody)
- complete disaster on O-line
- SHERMAN

If I was Ross I'd let him know that 2014 better be double digit win or else. This team has made progress even if it's hard to notice. Reality is that Tannehill played a lot of good football this year. Perfect elite no, but there is upside there that needs to be coached up just a little more.

The one thing this team really lost the last couple years is TOUGHNESS! The o line losing their mean guy in Incognito hurt but this team needs some meaner, tougher guys up front, a FB or HB that WILL GET THOSE 1-2 yards.

Weak, cannot argue both sides. And threatening with firing is not allowed.

We booted all the tough guys. Fasano, Long, Incog, Polite, Lane....we missed that toughness.

Why I'd fire Philbin

1. He got rid of Danbsy, Burrent, and Bush because they didn't fit his personality (boy scouts) and he replaced them with worst players. He got rid of our toughness that we used to have even if we didn't have the talent. This blame also goes to Ireland.
2. The team lacks leadership and heart because of the environment he created.
3. He appointed Sherman as OC and he failed to take control or strip him of his duties because of his relationship.
4. His failure at half time adjustments
5. He doesn't get the most out of his players and put them in the best position to win. No creativity. For instance, Hartline is always lined up on the left. Wallace is always lined up on the right.
6. Being stubborn with his decisions
7. Being out coached badly by other coaches
8. No personality. Generic responses to questions.

To me, Ireland had his shot to turn this team around. He survived when Parcells left because he said he didn't have as much control. He survived last season after he admittedly failed to acquire a #1 WR or TE for Tannehill's development, stunting his potential growth and keeping us out of a post-season bid. He will not survive the blunders he made this year, namely letting Jake Long and Reggie Bush go. Those are 2 pro-bowl caliber players who wouldn't cost much to lock down, they wanted to be here and they were valuable leaders both on and off the field. His negligence in assembling a deep enough offensive line and his decision to draft Stanford LT John Martin (whose toughness is, at best, questionable) as his future Left Tackle should be enough to get him finally fired. When TE Dustin Keller went down for the season to injury, no attempt was even made to bring in another TE or to attempt a trade. After the Buffalo fiasco *the first one*, he traded for a revolving door, a player the Ravens had to bench after trading for his replacement from the Jaguars.

I believe Ireland is not the only one headed to the curb. I think Ross knows that without something BIG, Fin Fans aren't going to be shelling out $ next year to watch this team, no matter how good they look in the off-season. If Ross thinks he can pull the trigger and lure someone out of the MNF booth and into a Coach/GM role, I think he does it. And that means a very nice, very smart man is now looking for a new job; I wish him the best of luck in Cleveland next year.

As far as Gruden goes, if this job fell into his lap he would need to think good and hard about turning it down. Unlike the last time the fins were searching for a coach, we have a young, incredibly talented QB and a great deep threat WR to play with. Gruden would love to mold Tannehill into his Superbowl MVP, and both are young enough to make a serious run at a Dynasty. With Brady and the Pats no longer the goliaths they once were, I think the AFC East (and the Dolphins specifically) is ripe for the picking.

Wasn't the word after last season playoffs or bust for Ireland and possibly philbin?

Philbin is weak. If he had control of the locker room we might not even have had that drama. You see his demeanor? That's how his team plays. No need to give him another year, unless you want the same results.

I'm not weak you dip stick. I'm just saying it's not a no brainer firing like everyone thinks. Cleveland fires their coach last year and hires Chud. One year later they fire Chud.

We've gone thru countless coaches it's safe to say that if all that it took was firing a coach we'd have a Uhaul van full of Lombardi trophies.

I worry that firing Philbin means we bail on Tannehill too. The jury is still out on this QB/coach combination.

I want a true upgrade before I move on. Jay Gruden is not a definite upgrade people!

Why'd id fire this regime: I can get a better one.

I think the Cleveland situation is actually kind of a good comparison because even though the problem is clearly the overall talent level of the team, you can still evaluate how well the coach worked with what he had available to him.

In Chud's case, the fact that he was 3-0 with Hoyer starting and 1-12 with the garbage duo of Campbell/Weeden says a lot. In Philbin's case, it's not his fault that he's been given an offensive line that other NFL personnel executives have called 'expansion level' and 'laughable.'

Chud was given crap to work with at QB and RB on a perennial 4-5 win football team. He won 4 games and was fired. Joe Philbin has been given a garbage OL, garbage LBs, garbage RBs, and a still-developing QB to work with on a perennial 6-7 win football team. He won 7 and 8 games.

I would hope that Steve Ross fires Jeff Ireland and then allows the new GM to make the determination about Philbin. I am not a huge Philbin fan at all, and I see a few glaring things with our coaching staff that I feel are weaknesses, but it's difficult for me to simply rip on the coach and call for his head when we have glaring personnel deficiencies. I do feel like our coaching staff makes terrible situational decisions, but at the same time, better execution from the players would make a lot of those decisions look much, much better.
