Home away from home....

As much as it disgusts me, Ive been a partial Raider fan this season, a team I really hate just as much as our division rivals...but lets take a look at how many times Ive rooted for them and why...

Oct. 6 @ Buffalo....(Divisional of course)
Nov. 11 @ Denver....(had to root for them to get Denver down with us)
Nov.17 vs. N.England.... (Divisional of course)
Dec. 2 vs. NY Jets....(Divisional of course)

.....Both the Raiders and Chargers are 8-4, however, we currently hold the tiebraker with S.Diego and we still have to play Oakland to determine who gets the tiebraker out of both of us....the good thing, one of them has got to lose...the bad thing, whichever one does lose, has to keep losing ....The Raiders play good @ SD every year, as most fans in SD are Raider fans and it becomes like home field advantage...

Oak (8-4) @ SD (8-4)....Go Raiders (again for the 5th time)

Remaining games:
OAK @SD, @Mia, Den, KC
SD vs. Oak, @Buff, @KC, Sea

If we root for SD on this one, we will also be rooting for them next week against Buffalo and will have to try and catch up with 2 games left....If we root for Oak we will have to beat them at home to even both our records and we will have the tiebraker.

-----------------

Bledsoe Bowl II....

The Patriots are currently tied for first with us but we hold the tiebraker right now with one more to play against them....If for whatever reason Buffalo catches up to us they will hold the current tiebraker over us on any wild card available, however the AFCW has tiebrakers over them leaving them out in the cold with us...a loss to the Patriots will put them 2 games behind first with 3 games left to play..

Buff (6-6) @ NE (7-5) .... Go Patriots

Remaining games...

Buff @NE, SD, @ GB, Cin
NE vs. Buff, @ Tenn, NYJ, Mia

If NE wins we still control their destiny....If Buff wins, we would be tied alone for first but with NEs help they would control the division.

----------------

Battle to stay alive....

Two teams trying to stay alive and are hanging on for dear life....this will be a hard fought battle but the loser will most likely be out of the picture....this one is a no brainer....

Den (7-5) @ NYJ (6-6) .... Go Borncos

Remaining Games:

NYJ vs. Den, @ Chi, @ NE, GB
Den @ NYJ, KC, @ Oak, AZ

A loss for the Jets will be crucial to them and will be a lot closer to throwing in the towel, and there schedule does not get any easier...A Denver win would keep us tie and next week its safe to root for their opponent...

---------------------

other games to keep an eye out on....

Tenn (7-5) @ Indy (8-4)....Go Titans

A win for the Titans would put us over Indy

--------------------

Pitt (7-4-1) @ Hou (3-9)....Go Texans :(

A loss to Pitt would put us over them as well

......lots of things could change this upcoming week and of course all this, is assuming we win all our remaing games...

Miami Dolphins vs. Chi, Oak, @ Minn, @ NE

Go Dolphins!!!!!

you gotta go for the Bills over the Pats since we s/b 8-5 and the Bills, Pats w/b 7-6 and (go Denver) Jets w/b 6-7 :D

Good post :eat:
It's all in the players hands...We've had many chances to run away with the division but have yet to do it...Let's start winning and we wont need to root for anybody...

I have been trying to figure out what results in the other games would be best for Miami too, and I agree with most of your picks. If we knew we’d go 4-0 from here out, it wouldn’t matter much, since I doubt that two of the three other AFC division winners will also go 4-0 to stay ahead and cost us the first-round bye. One of them maybe, but not two. We’d hold head-to-head wins over most of the contenders, so a bye would be likely.

Otherwise, if we’re picking favorites in the other games, it’s really on the assumption that Miami will not finish 4-0.

It’s also not worth assuming we’ll go 2-2 and sneak into the playoffs through some longshot wildcard tiebreaking scenario. Let’s be grateful we’re not Bills or Jets fans, who are already reduced to hoping games end in ties, entire teams contract Legionnaire’s Disease and forfeit, etc.

That leaves us hoping for the best playoff spot (or perhaps even just getting one) if we go 3-1. So let’s work with that, and see how it looks.

It’s worth remembering that we lose the division tiebreaker to the Jets or the Bills if EITHER of them wins out. Needless to say, this would be a very unpleasant way to finish the season, to put it mildly. For comfort’s sake, we want to see them both pick up their losses sooner rather than later.

The Patriots, on the other hand, will have to beat us to take the East whether we’re 3-0 or 2-1 coming into the final week. It doesn’t matter if we’re a game behind when we go there, so it doesn’t matter too much what they do meanwhile, unless they collapse and fall two games back. With that in mind, I’d prefer:

Patriots over Bills

The Broncos are probably only a factor if we’re trying to win a playoff tiebreaker, and we already have the head-to-head win in Denver for that. Since they’re also 7-5, and we’re assuming a 3-1 finish for ourselves, we just don’t want them winning their last four. This is exactly our position on the Jets, too. We should be happy that Jets-Broncos will result in a loss for one of them (a tie would be the worst outcome), so the question is which one is more likely to lose later on, and I think it’s a tossup. Since I’d rather lose a wildcard spot to the Broncos than the division to the Jets, and since I live in New York and always enjoy watching the Jets lose, I’ll go with:

Broncos over Jets

The Chargers-Raiders game is the trickiest. I’m going to assume that one of them is going to with the West with a 3-1 finish or better - it’s just too much of a stretch to hope they’ll BOTH go 2-2. If we go 3-1 with an Oakland loss, we win the East (barring a Jets/Bills surprise) but we still won’t rank above the West winner, so I don’t really care who it is.

If we go 3-1 with a New England loss, and need a wildcard, we’d like to rank above the second-place West team - we just want ONE of them to finish 2-2. And remember: we’re already assuming that we’ll beat Oakland in this scenario, so we’d have the tiebreak edge over both of them. What I really want here is a brutally physical game that goes to overtime, but if I can’t have that, I guess I’d like to know that at least one of them is destined for 2-2, so I’ll take:

Chargers over Raiders

The Colts-Titans is also hard to call. Indy has a pretty easy schedule after this week, and could conceivably win out, getting a bye, or at least go 3-1, so it would be good to see them lose - just in case we finish 4-0 and need to fall back on our head-to-head win. On the other hand, the Titans host the Pats next week and then finish with two dogs (Jacksonville, Houston). They also only have three AFC losses, while we have four already. They’re alive for a wildcard. If they win, we’ll need to start hoping the Patriots beat them. It’s conceivable if not likely that we could miss a wildcard in a three-way tiebreaker at 10-6 against the Titans and the West’s runner-up. This too would suck, even more than losing the division to the Jets or Bills, since we’d be out of the playoffs completely. All things considered, I think I’ll sleep easier if we see:

Colts over Titans

Finally, what the heck… we might as well hope for:

Texans over Steelers

Now, I gotta stop writing these long-winded replies.

Why thanks, P4E. But really, I need to get some work done once in a while.

Then again, I guess there'll be plenty of time in January (or February).

i think we should root for the raiders over the chargers because they have a harder schedule...we already have the tiebreaker over sd...sd has to go to buffalo and kc...i dont think they will win either of those games...the raiders have to play us and denver and kc at home...we have to beat the raiders and it wont matter...

If you're really confident that SD will lose those two, then there's no real need for them to lose to Oakland too. Might as well root for the Raiders to lose. The best possible result for Miami is if they both go 2-2 (or worse).

wow!...it almost went perfectly good for us this week with the exception of the Jets and Broncos...now we have to take advantage of it...;)

The first assumption is the worst...that we win all of our remaining games. Not gonna happen. We don't go undefeated in December. Especially not with Jay coming back from a broken thumb, himself admitting that he can't get the same velocity on the ball that he did at the beginning of the season.

Assuming we lose 1 game, who do you choose? Easy answer. Oakland. The Oakland game means virtually NOTHING to us from a survival standpoint. It only means something to us if you assume we're going to go undefeated in December. Hoping that we beat Oakland, for the purposes of playoff seeding, is like hoping that it'll snow 12 inches when you aren't even sure it will snow. The only game that has meaning is the Patriots game. Thats it. If we do not beat the Patriots we will not be in the playoffs no matter WHAT we do against the Raiders, Bears, and Vikes. I can virtually GUARANTEE it. This is because Tennessee gets to keep adding to their superior conference record by beating the lowly Jags and Texans. So lets assume that they beat the Patriots too. Then Indy gets the wildcard spot at a likely 11-5 (facing Jags, Giants, and Browns). And the Patriots meanwhile get the AFC East tied with us at 10-6, because they have the superior division record. And the Chargers of course get the other wildcard at likely 11-5 (Chiefs, Broncos, Bills). Meaning, we're out of the playoffs.

Beat the Patriots though, and no matter WHAT we do against the Raiders, we're guaranteed at least the #4 spot in the AFC.

CKparrot...Although I agree with you ...I have to say that if youve watched the Dolphins play this season when healthy theyre a completely diffrent team then other years...you cannot say they will not go undeafeted in Dec....we have played very good at home so a Raiders loss in Mia is very likely....the only game I can see us losing believe it or not is the Minnesota game....if we lose any at all.

New England game is gonna be very tough. Playing up there in crappy weather wont be good for us at all.
