This is just my take on what the Dolphins should do this offseason, and somethings on the defense may not be correct such as my choice for our new safety and if these new guys will be resigned by their old teams, but please tell me what you think. BTW, yes i am extremely bored at work.

Trade- Porter, Ginn, and Jason Allen if possible
Release- Ayodele, Torbor
Re-sign- Ronnie Brown, Lou Polite, Anthony Fasano, Dan Carpenter, Nate Jones
Let Walk- Pennington, Haynos, Ferguson

Sign- Vince Wilfork, Rocky McIntosh, Atari Bigby
Trades-If you can get something like a 5th for Ginn, do it.
If you can get anything for Joey Porter, do it but if not, release him.
Trade for Anquan Boldin by giving this years 2nd and next years 4th rounder.

Draft (abbreviated for the first couple of rounds)-
1st- Dez Bryant
2nd- Traded
3rd- O'Brien Schofield- good playmaking olb
4th- Jimmy Graham- good blocking te with good future
5th Vladimir Ducasse- Huge G that fits the mold of a parcells type lineman

That will give us a depth chart of this for next year-

Qb- Henne/White/Thigpen
Rb-Brown/Williams/Hilliard/Cobbs
Fb-Louuuuu
Wr1-Boldin/Bess/Turner
Wr2-Bryant/Hartline
Te- Fasano/Graham
Lt- Long/Fa or Draft Pickup/Gardner
Lg- Smiley/ Garner/ Ducasse
C- Grove/Berger/ Fa or draft pickup
Rg- Thomas/Garner/ Ducasse
Rt- Carey/Fa or Draft pickup/ Gardner

De-Langford/Merling/Mcdaniel
Dt- Wilfork/Soliai/Mcdaniel
De-Starks/Merling/Mcdaniel
Lb-Rocky McIntosh/Wake
Lb-Crowder/ FA Pickup
Lb-Taylor/Scofield
Cb-Davis/Smith/Special Teamer
Cb-W. Allen/ N. Jones
S- Bigby/Clemons
S-Bell/ Clemons

Im not sure if bigby plays the correct safety position but i was just giving an example.

So any comments?

I would try to trade Porter definately, someone will want him. Ginn, I would keep, he has been improving this second half of the season. I would flip where you have Jason Allen and Nate Jones. Jason is a baller on special teams and when he was on Welker during the 2nd Pats game, I think he did pretty well.

Sign- Vince Wilfork, Rocky McIntosh, Atari Bigby

I would love Wilfork, how old is Bigby? And I don't know who McIntosh is

I'm not too update on a lot of college players but I don't see the Boldin trade happening. And Idk if we could get Dez Bryant. For the draft I just want to get some good linebackers, Golden Tate would be nice, and maybe an athletic TE.

Bigby is 27-28 or so.
McINtosh is a former hurricane who is having a pretty good year.

If we lose this weekend we could get a pick as high as 10th but most likely 13th or so, so I think Dez could definitely be available.

Rocky McIntosh - LB for redskins....another LB with chronic knee problems...pass!!

He has played at least 14 games in every year hes been in the league and played all 16 in 2 of those years. And by the way, bigby plays yeremiah's poition, so instead id get the fs for the packers Nick Collins

Keep in mind:

No one will trade for Ginn. He's also our only true deep threat and is rather dangerous if Henning learned how to throw deep.
Porter should definitely be traded. He still has some value for a 4th round pick perhaps?
Jason Allen will stay as our Special Teams player or be cut. Nobody will trade for him. He's also not bad at covering.
Ayodele should be released. Torbor is a good back-up for any new ILB we get.

Re-sign:
Ronnie Brown- power running back who's a great powerhouse when healthy. Also runs the wildcat. BB thinks he's the most dangerous player in the AFC East.
Lou Polite- Beast blocker, 14 of 14 completion on short yardage downs. One of the best FB's and most underrated FB in the NFL. Our running game would be worse w/o him.
Anthony Fasano- our best TE. Not a great passing threat and he dosen't have great hands, but he is not bad either. He is a great blocker and does give Henne a lot of time to throw. He's almost like an extra lineman.
Dan Carpenter- is arguably one of the best kickers in the league. He was the 2nd best kicker for FG's in 14 weeks (he may still be). He has come up big for us on game winning FG's (Oakland, TB, NE). He's going to win us the SB soon, you'll see.
Nate Jones- He's not great, but he's not a bad corner. He's pretty good at covering and is good depth. I'm not sure if he can tackle well...

Chad Pennington is gone. We don't need his assistance anymore. He's physically not able to play football for much longer. He won't be our QB coach either. I respect him for what he did last year and he has the best accuracy in the history of the NFL, but it's Henne's team now.
Joey Haynos is gone (maybe). He's a tall kid, but he dosen't have good hands. Although, he's a pretty good blocker. It depends how Sperry turns out. If Sperry is good, Haynos is either gone or a 3rd stringer.
Ferguson is gone due to age (maybe). He'll be 36 next year in the hardest position on D IMO. He may stay 1 more year and have a low contract to retire his career. He's been an excellent gap NT for us and he's an awesome run stopper.

If we get Dez Bryant in the first round I will be pissed. We need an ILB, faster LB's, and safeties on D. We definitely need a #1 WR, but making a rookie a #1 WR is a mistake. We need someone who already knows the position and is great (Boldin, Marshall, Jackson, ect.). I want Brandon Spikes with our first round pick.

You forgot another LB.

It seems you have it all figured out. Except for a few minor items:

Porter is untradeable. Why do you think this is Madden and other teams will trade for an over the hill, expensive and aging while regressing player? Porter has ZERO trade value people. Stop with this.

Ginn - we would be fortunate to even get a 6th round pick. The cap hit to trade him isn't worth it. Look for him to get outright cut.

Jason Allen traded? you must be kidding here - maybe for a case of Pringles.

Boldin would command more than a 2nd and 4th.

Draft picks: we willl see, but let's just build the core of the team again like they did in year one. Year 2 was a joke of an offseason and draft. Ireland must redeem himself.

Bottom line: there are no easy fixes. There are holes everywhere.

I'm just not really sure where you see all of these holes?

Here are the need positions in my opinion (in no particular order).

WR (1)
TE (1)
FS
ILB (1)
OLB (1)

That's 5 players. 5 players is not all that bad, especially when most of the other positions are solid and have quality depth (outside of DT maybe). If we fill 2 of those holes in FA and fill 1 with a starter through the draft, that leaves us with 2 holes that would need to be addressed. I can't name 1 team in the league that doesn't have 2 starters they feel need to be upgraded. I know we don't have loads of superstars elsewhere to make up for those 2 holes, but give these guys some time to grow. They are very young and you could easily see at least 6 guys grow into superstar type players (see below). Not saying all 6, but maybe 1 - 3 of them do.

Henne
Davis
Smith
Langford
Merling
Starks (already showing it)
Wake

Again, I'm just not sure I see where all of these holes are coming from. I would like to hear your thoughts.

I agree with most of your points qmar. I just think it you should replace DT as a need with TE then you're set. I have no problem with Fascano as a starting TE. I'll put it this way we have much, much bigger needs. I think you make a good point about the 6 potential superstars. Many people are forgetting this is the 2nd youngest team in the league. These pretty good recent drafts will start catching up to us. Also dont forget that almost every vetern leader on this team went down to a season-ending injury(Pennington, Allen, Ferguson, and Brown were all vetern leaders.)

Holes:

RB (1 - Brown injury and RW one season left?)
WR (1 - must be a #1)
TE (1 - must be a #1)
OLB (2 - JT and Porter likely gone)
ILB (1-2 - Ayodele and Torbor replacements? Crowder injury?)
FS (must get a #1)
DL (1-2; Nose tackle starter? DE depth)

Definitely more than 5. This team is not that close right now.

I think Fasano had an off year. The guy was great last year with a more adequet guy opposite him - i like haynos but we need a guy like Sperry (if he plays like he did against carolina) opposite Fasano, to do what martin did. That will get Fasano going better. also 70 percent of a TE's job, unless your a gonzalez or a clark is blocking - stop overlooking that aspect. Our number 2 TE can be the receiver that might be sperry.

we only have a few holes here. just need one more good ILB and i think crowder will do better, We need a better FS and we'll see more picks and stops. We need another NT, and we need a number 1 WR. Thats all the holes i see.

We lost Chad P. this year, which regardless of what ppl think brought INCREDIBLE leadership to the team and also made very little mistakes - he was a much more accurate passer than Henne. Im not saying Henne isnt the future or that it wasnt for the best that he started this year - i think he is the future and needed this year...but plain and simple him being in there prob cost us some things. Also Martin being gone was huge, and Cobbs being out for season...our secondary also got wayy younger. These are the things that i think contributed to our step back this year...i think some of u forget how good these players are and are just using tunnel vision looking at this year. In reality - just like theres no way we coulda had such an injury free mistake free season as last year...we wont have such a injury-ridden mistake filled season like this one next year. We have about 5 holes to fill..and we will.

p.s. pat white bulks up and gets more experience - watch out, that package will be much more threatening...dont think this regime has given up its lust for "trickery" as some call it - although alotta ppl here want to line up in the spread or single back all day and throw every down...we wont do it, and we were better doing what we started with..wild cat etc. this experience was good for Henne..but with the return of different personel and formations henne will do better when he is called upon.
