Maybe I'm oversimplifying here, but this is what I saw:
1) The offensive line - Absolutely disgraceful performance. LJ Shelton was a turnstyle and we didn't pick up a single blitz. We could very easily revert back to nearly the same line we used last year, with the only exception being Seth McKinney. I'm advocating putting McIntosh back in the starting unit in place of Shelton, and taking Anderson out in favor Kendall Jacox, who I'd use at center. That at least gives us close to what we had last year, and potentially better. That way, both Shelton and Anderson get the chance to learn, while players who already know the system, exceute it.
2) Culpepper - I'm not advocating giving him the hook just yet, but he holds onto the ball too long. We need to switch to a 3 step drop and let him get rid of the ball quickly. It worked last year with Gus, their's no reason we shouldn't use it while our O-Line adjusts to playing together this year. Seven sacks is disgusting, and it's in part due to his unwillingness to deliver the ball quickly, in part due to our recievers not getting open, and in part due to our O-Line's complete ineptitude.
3) The defensive front seven - oddly enough, our secondary looks to be very solid (with the exception of Tavares Tillman, who I'd yank in favor of Yerimiah Bell) but our front seven doesn't seem to be able to pressure people on a consistent basis. JT is drawing all the attention, Carter is good for the occasional sack, but doesn't put the fear in you anymore, and Traylor and Holliday just seem to occupy space. Where's Fred Evans? Dan Wilkinson? Their's no push up the middle. Traylor is still a great run stuffer, but what is Vonnie Holliday doing for us out there?
The linebackers are also bothering me. Not a single one seems to be able to get after the QB. Crowder is good, but he's more coverage, Zach's strength is in the run game, and Spragan's strengths seem to be in coverage, as well. I guess I'm just missing the point of how these guys are going to help us put pressure on the QB.
One of the things that's been preached to us about Dom Capers is that we'd be blitzing from every single angle on any given play, and that pressure on the QB was a given. Has anyone seen it yet?
4) Special Teams - Our punter looks great, I have no qualms with Mare, but I do have issue with our coverage, and the punt block. Things have to change. It's bad enough that our offense is inept, but we don't have to surrender unnecessary field position.
It's very frustrating. This is a pro team and they looked completely unprepared...
