Sean Smith
Pros: Very tall, decent timed speed, excellent hands, plays zones very well
Cons: Will not play in receiver's hip pocket, does not have the acceleration to recover against faster receivers, is not aggressive in any facet of his game
Comments: Seems to be a Cover 2 corner or free safety in most other schemes with no real fit in Miami's primary coverage. I rank him as the sixth best corner in this draft.

DJ Moore
Pros: Good size, aggressive in pass coverage, sits in the receiver's hip pocket and does not leave, sure tackler in the open field, played frequently on the offensive side of the ball (including as the sweep option back in the Wildcat), excellent kick returner
Cons: Aggressiveness does not translate to the run game often leading to bigger plays than necessary, might be too aggressive in pass coverage if opponent uses double moves, short, slow timed speed
Comments: Because he wouldn't be primary outside contain in Miami's scheme he isn't such a liability in the run game, but he will need to temper his aggression on pass plays if he is to fit in the Quarters scheme. Would be worth the 2b pick.

Darius Butler
Pros: Elite timed and game speed, aggressive in all aspects of his craft, a threat on offense and defense, has the vertical necessary to play the tallest receivers, will bait quarterbacks
Cons: Height might be a concern to some teams (but not Miami)
Comments: A perfect fit for Miami's 1st round pick.

Alphonso Smith
Pros: Good timed speed, does not give up the big play, plenty aggressive in the pass game, has fire and a nasty streak, makes snap reads and breaks
Cons: Height not prototypical, does not have the vertical to cover the likes of Hardy, is not multi-dimensional like Butler and Moore
Comments: He probably shouldn't be matched up against really tall or really fast receivers but he'll shut down anybody that's slightly less superhuman (kinda sounds like Will Allen). Worth the 2a pick.

I honestly believe that you'll see the defensive backfield addressed in three straight picks. My ideal first three is Butler, Chung, DJ Moore in that order; but on the off chance that Chung is taken before 2a I can live with Butler, Smith, W. Moore. The key is to lock down the future of the defensive backfield now, because next year's crop seems to be incredibly weak. I know a lot of people will argue for OLB, but we seem to be deep (if not explosive) and it is fairly common knowledge that Parcells is hunting for the next late round pass rushing gem. I can only conclude that he holds WR and OLB in the same regard for this draft class.

Just curious...if Butler couldn't stop Britt...how is he going to stop Owens and Moss?

This draft is loaded with talented Cornerback's.

You have Vontae Davis, Malcolm Jenkins, and Darius Butler who are locks for Round 1. In Round 2 you have Sean Smith, DJ Moore, Alphonso Smith, and do not sleep on Jairus Byrd. In Round 3 there is Victor Harris, Bradley Feltcher, and Kevin Barnes who is as underrated as they come. Don Carey out of Norfolk is a guy to keep an eye on as well.

I dunno that any corner except Asomugha could actually stop Moss or Owens one on one. Butler has a better shot than the others, though, and with a little seasoning he could turn into one of the top corners in the league.

This is all true. I mainly focused on who will be available to Miami between our first and third picks. I think we'll take a couple corners real early and at least one other later on (I like Carey as well.)

Oh, and this fixation on Moss and Owens really must stop. Those guys are going to be done in a year or two. What people need to be focusing on is that we have no starting quality players besides Will Allen and he's gone once his contract is up, Next year's class blows from what I can see, so we need to secure our future CB1 and CB2 this year.

9 catches, 107 yards, 0 TD's with a long catch of 33 yards (on a play where Butler wasn't covering him, yet Butler came in to make the tackle)

I think Butler did just fine against Britt in that game.

Butler wasn't covering the best receiver...really?

On that 33 yard catch? Yeah, I'd say that one wasn't Butler's fault at all.

If you look at Britt's highlights from that game, I don't think Butler did nearly as bad as you're leading others to believe.

And here's the game analysis from cbs:

"Rutgers … Three of Butler's seven tackles came on third-down, as he also deflected one pass … That pass deflection prevented receiver Kenny Britt from getting to a deep pass, as both athletes went up for the ball, but the 5:10 cornerback elevated higher than the 6:04 receiver … Main Pass Coverage Assignment: WR#88-Kenny Britt (6:04-214)-caught three passes for 53 yards vs. Butler, who rerouted the receiver three times from potential receptions."

Not always the case, bro. Only really happens in man coverage, which the Fins mostly won't be using this upcoming season. Your problem is you're thinking man, not Quarters.

LOL....Sorry wrong video...but a nice one at least;

Thanks, that video shows exactly what I'm talking about. Britt's 33 yard catch wasn't on Butler, yet Butler made the tackle and in several other plays it wasn't bad coverage from Butler, just good throws and routes from Britt. I'd be thrilled if our corner held the other team's best WR to a few catches/50 yards while he was covering him.
