I almost feel bad starting another Ricky thread......but it was clearly titled, so you didn't have to click on it.

Anyway..........

I have one question for all of you who have a problem with Ricky…….why is it so acceptable to leave your team, teammates and fans high and dry for MONEY, but not for personal reasons as Ricky did??

I mean, isn’t that what free agents do all of the time?? Leave their current franchise, teammates, fans and all, for more money elsewhere?? But all too often they get welcomed back with open arms.

My big problem with what Ricky did was WHEN he did it. He left at a time when the Phins were left with little other options. Other than that, here’s how I see what he did. He failed another drug test and the ‘Oh Sh!t’ factor started settling in. What am I going to do? How do I explain this? Then after he thought about it more, he started questioning why he was really doing all of it…….did he need to be subject to these rules and schedules? Was he just playing for the money? Did he really need more money? (except for the ‘breach of contract clause in his contract which left him owing 8.6 million, the answer was no). Did he really need to take this ABUSE because from this idiot coach (who’s contract was just inexplicably extended) who used him like a rented mule? (more carries than any RB ever over 2-year period).

So he walked away and pursued a new life. He walked away, basically saying he didn’t need the NFL, or it’s constraints, or the millions of dollars it promised. Didn’t leave for more money like 95% of the players in the game do, he left because he decided it wasn’t for him. Is one of them more or less honorable than the other.

So now, he has discovered that he does in fact need the money, so he’s back, back for the money. I will not accept any other reasoning, it’s the only reason. Money. And some how that makes him worse than the 75% of the NFL who are also only playing for the money.

good post.

id love to see him come back and explode!! i'd love for him to go down as one of the best runningbacks of all time.

Good post. Players abandon their teams all the time for "greener pastures." If Zach were to have become a free agent, say, 2 years ago (or even before last season) and was offered more money to go somewhere else, he would have bolted. Same goes for JT or Sam or anyone else. There is no loyalty in football anymore. Another good example of disloyalty and bailing on your team is what Terrell Owens is doing. Granted he may show up for camp, but he has already proven what he is all about. And it has NOTHING to do with his team.

If Zach or JT or Madison were to leave via free agency then by definition they would have fulfilled the obligations of their contracts. Ricky did not.

That said, I have more of a problem with Rickys attitude when he quit than I do with the actual retirement. Ricky took the attitude that he was going to do what he wanted regardless of the rules and even then nothing was his fault and he did nothing wrong. This leads me to believe that there is a very good chance that Ricky will repeat this behavior when things don't go his way. Im hopefull that when this occurs, Ricky will be on another team's roster and we will have an extra pick in the following year's draft.

so would i, he needs to be around for at least 4 years though, i think it is possible though

Most people in the world go to work because of the money. It's a basic fact of life, that most people would probably rather spend their days doing something other than what they actually do.

I don't at all hold it against Ricky that he needs money and that that's part of his motivation for returning. That's just common sense, if you ask me. You need money, you work. If you have to work, you might as well do something that you at least enjoy to some degree. In Ricky's case, he has the talent to be an NFL RB, and if he enjoys football at all, it makes perfect sense for him to return.

So he's obviously a deep thinker, and a guy who ponders the mysteries of life. And he had something of an identity crisis or whatever, and decided to walk away from his job. Ok, it pisses off us Dolphins fans for obvious reasons... but it's not a new story. People quit their jobs and change careers every freakin' day, because they have some sort of identity crisis, or because their boss is a d!ck, or any of a bazillion other reasons.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as Ricky displays the level of commitment necessary to do his job well (that is, be productive as a RB), that's about all we can reasonably ask for. He does that this year then I, for one, won't hold anything against him.

Everyone that is mad at Ricky join the club. We were all mad at Ricky because we felt he let us down well he is back to redeem himself give him a chance if he shows up praise him. If he fails and is not as effective then boo him. But right now we need him so support him he could help us get to that next level that we havent seen in 21 years
