BLITZKRIEG
~LACUNA LEGIONS~
Ok, ok, I know I've been alittle lagging over the last few days, but I do try and have somekind of life outside of Miami Dolphins football. LOL. Anyways, here's my take on todays practice....
Starting off, this had to be one of the hottest, most miserable TC sessions I've ever sat through. I can't imagine how uncomfortable those big guys are out there running around and trying to stay hydrated. It's tough enough just sitting in the stands, and today was hotter than usual. Anyway, onto the report....
I'll start out, and just say every TC session starts off with exercizing and running formation drills. This is a very boring part of training camp, but it's also an imperative part of getting familair with the different schemes. It's really the key to gameplanning against your opponents.....
The defense is looking well during this time, and is absorbing everything that Saban / Capers are teaching. Both are very well schooled in this area{DB's}, and therefore I expect our new look secondary to be a much tighter unit as a result. I have confidence in the guys I've seen out there, and in the system both coaches are installing. We look very aggressive, and hawking....
As for the offensive drills, most are done with no coverage, and almost look as if they're practicing the snap counts more than anything else during this first 30 minutes. BORNG. They're very laid back right now, and just getting warmed up....
I will say that OG B. Anderson stood out. Not really as an impacting presence, but in size. I have a strong feeling that by the time the pre-season gets underway, Houck will have Anderson whipped into good shape, and he'll make a nice run blocker at RG as a result....
This is just based on the difference in size between him and McKinney. It's quite a bit of a difference, and if Bennie makes the most of his time under Houck, I think he could be special player for us. Not much different than when we transformed OG J. Nails awhile back remember what kind of roadgrader he was?? I think Anderson has that same potential if he gives it his best....
Rookie T J. Toledo has some size as well. If he turns the page in a year or two / starts emerging, he should make a nice addition along the OL as well. He's bigger than I expected, and looks like he moves well for a sizeable rookie. Nothing special, but has potential none the less....
I looked for some WR / KR / QB M. Vick today, but he wasn't really much of a standout factor in today's session. One thing I do like about Vick though is his effort, and what he tries to do after the catch{when he catches it}. I can't wait to see what he can do during the pre-season against some real competition....
The rookie WR D. Hagan had a very solid day all around. He caught a nice handful of passes from Culpepper today. I really think between Hagan, Campbell, Welker, Vick, and Murphy, our coaches have some tough decisions at WR on the way. We've done well over the last couple of years surrounding Chambers / Booker with more talent / competition....
As for Booker, he was great today. He and Culpepper are starting to click some. I see a confidence level when they're on the same page, and today they looked like they were in mid-season form. Booker made some very nice catches today, 1-2 for long yardage TD's....
QB D. Culpepper was back to his old ways today, and made all of the other QB's out there look average. His arm strength, when he wants to go deep, is dead on the money more often than not, and his mid-range lazers are blinding/ on the money most of the time....
The media can say what they want about his surgically repaired knee, but one thing is certain, there isn't anything wrong with Culpepper's arm. Watching him throw has been a load of fun thus far....
Speaking of his knee, he took off running again today when protection broke down, and you can just see it in the way he practices, that he's totally pumped to be a part of the Miami Dolphins. As long as he can stay healthy, Culpepper could be one of the best off-season aquisitions we've ever traded for in my opinion.....
By the way, WR C. Chambers didn't practice today. He was doing leg drills on the sideline, maybe he tweaked a leg muscle or something....
As for QB J. Harrington, I'm not as displeased with his performances as many of the fans around here seem to be. He's learning, and you can tell that on a daily basis, he's becoming more comfortable with his surroundings. He's working hard guys, and until he proves he does / doesn't deserve the back-up QB position, we should give him the chance to earn it. I highly doubt he could end up being worse than Frerotte, and he wasn't all that shabby for a journeyman veteran back-up. If Harrington could reach that level{not all that difficult} we'll have a decent player to come in during any emergency.....
Today he was pretty sharp. Although like a light switch{off /on}, he had himself a productive outing this afternoon in my opinion....
QB C. Lemon is still a bit of an enigma. He looks very solid at time, and poor at others. He also doesn't get the benefit of practicing with the first tema offense, but still, he's missing some throws he should be miaking from time to time. I love his mobility, and pocket awareness, but his decision making worries me. Once again, and interesting player, but an unknown....
The RB's weren't / and aren't getting much room to run against this defense, but that's good in a strange sort of way, it will keep them on their toes, and always running for daylight. We should be in solid shape with Brown / Morris / and believe it or not we may even get to see a nice dose of KJ Harris during the pre-season this year. He's gotten bigger, and he looks stronger all aorund in my opinion. Watch out for him, he may put Minor out of a job....
A quick defensive breakdown???....Awesome. I love what we're doing right now, and I think transforming it into the hybrid 3-4 is going to make our defense one of the best we've had down here. I'm not kidding....
All in all, after an hour in a half, I was dead in my seat. I had to bolt. This was one of the best TC sessions I've been too thus far. The first night being the best. I think we're making progress everyday, and with the way Culpepper is running around, we're way ahead of schedule.....
PHINZ RULE!!!!
Hope you enjoyed it....
