I completely agree with what Ross said. I know it wasn't the popular 'view' around here but I think its the right one. He could be blowing smoke up all our ***** but I don't think so, because what he said is true. The best teams in football have been together for a long time. Swapping regimes really doesn't get you anywhere and if anything it sets you back further in the long run. I could be wrong but I don't believe that theres a coach that has won 2 super bowls with 2 different teams. Lets take a look at the teams that have been perennial playoff teams for the past 5 years(source wikipedia):

06-07 Playoffs

07-08 Playoffs

08-09 Playoffs

09-10 Playoffs

10-11 Playoffs

With the exception of a couple teams the majority of the teams that are constantly in the playoffs are the ones that have a system in place, a good core of players that have been with the team for a while, and the coaching staff. Teams like Pittsburgh, New England, Indy, GB and Philly have this. Those teams have also had their fair share of bad seasons prior to making these playoff pushes. What im trying to get at is change isnt always good. These teams listed have changed minimally over the years. If said team changed head coaches, the system is still intact. Take Pittsburgh for example.

The Dolphins have the talent and we are a couple plays from being a .500 team or possibly better. I know we're sitting at 0-4 right now and those on the 'suck for luck' bandwagon disgust me and should go be a fan for another team. Who would possibly want their team that they pull for week end and week out suck it up just to draft an unproven QB. Ridiculous if you ask me. If I were Ross calling the shots I would do this:

1. New defensive coordinator. I know this isn't the popular belief but our defense is the worst in the league. Nolan for the past 2 years has done nothing to improve the players that hes got. I think he lost his mojo when he left Baltimore. Hasn't really done anything since then. Our corners can't guard anything, our LBs and CBs seem to be out of place. Sometimes the playcalling is questionable. Such as the blitz against NE when they were backed up on the 1 and gave up a 99 yd TD. Or when you have been getting pressure on the QB you stop dialing up the blitz and play a prevent defense which allows the other team to throw underneath all day and forces the offense to play catchup.

2. This relates to #1 but we need the players on D also. Bell is getting up there in age as is JT. Both need to be replaced at some point so the young guy can learn from them 2. Also help on the o line and a pass catching TE. Someone who will run the seams like an Olsen for example.

3. A veteran QB. I know this is a touchy subject. This site is split on Henne supporters and suck for luck turds. Me I am a Henne supporter, however I am not against bringing a LEGIT vet in to compete. When I say LEGIT I dont mean Matt f'ing Moore. Someone like a Pennington or Hasselbeck along those lines. IMO Henne isn't the problem this year. Its our defense, redzone offense and WRs dropping passes which ties into the redzone offense. Henne has made some horrible decisions this year but hes also made some great ones.

4. We need to either target in the draft or FA some bulk on the o line. Henne is getting murdered back there. 3 steps and dead. Our right side of the line doesn't exist. We might as well not even list on the depth chart a RG or RT. The good teams have great lines. The good teams also have good QBs but with no o line a QB can't be good. Ask Tom Brady.

Other than that I wouldn't change a thing. I like how our offense is actually going after defenses and making them adjust. We just need to work at it and polish some things such as our redzone offense. Maybe this bye week they can focus more on those type of drills. Other than our defense and redzone offense this team is almost a complete one.

I kind of went off topic towards the end of this but what im trying to say is the most successful teams in football are the ones thats been together for a while. Sometimes you gotta go thru hell to make it to heaven but it makes it much sweeter when you accomplish it. I don't think I can name a team that has new coaches new everything and is currently successful. Discuss.

Not to be the Negative Nancy but all these teams had someone FIRED right before their Regime got there. Except a few like Pitt.

Aahahahahaha you actually believe Ross said that because he meant it, and not because he knows firing Sparano mid-season will accomplish nothing aside from making him look fickle.

Tell me, do you also believe that OJ is still looking for the real killer?

i hear your frustration, but most people are like that because they love the fins and want whats best for this team.

look, everyone on here if we could have it our way would love for miami to go 12-4 and win the superbowl.

however, what people dont want on here is us to win just a few games, that in the long term mean ****, but if we are going to suck anyways and not go anywhere this year, might as well suck bad enough to get a guy who is being deemed as the safest pick in years, and have success for the next 10-15 years consistently, just like the colts had with manning for so long.

in life, although it sucks, in order to achieve greatness, their are going to be growing pains in the process. this is unfortunately our growing pain.

i dont think anyone here would want us to lose if their was no sure qb prospect coming out, but when you have a guy who is being hyped about just as much as lebron james was when he came into the nba, sometimes you need to take your lumps.

I absolutely agree that stability in the front office and coaching staff is key. Absolutely. The problem is that getting that stability with just anyone isn't going to do it. Some folks are in over their heads as HC. Take Cam Cameron...brilliant offensive mind but I don't care how long you keep him as HC, he probably wasn't going to be successful. Sparano has had four years here and I'm not sure he has shown enough to stick with him. Four years is enough time. In four years these guys have shown a commitment to an outdated brand of management and talent evaluation.

"Stability" is what got us Dave Wannstedt and the wasted primes of Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor.

Ross was just saying all the right things till he fires Tony during the offseason. I believe he knows this team has quit on Tony and we are making a run for Luck. If he could of gotten Harrbaugh, Tony would of been gone last offseason. Hows that for a vote of confidence?

I agree Luck is the biggest QB prospect coming out in a while but thats all it is right now, is hype. He could turn out to be Ryan Leaf maybe, maybe not. Hopefully not if we do have the chance to draft him. However, I think there are way more glaring needs than QB and HC on this football team. Like I said most all the teams the past 5 playoffs have been together for a while. It was rough in the beginning but they got it. I would hate to tank this whole year and rest your fate on a QB who ain't played a down in the NFL. I would also hate to get rid of Sparano seeing that the locker room backs him so much. He is well respected around the league by players and coaches both. I could understand if it was a Cam Cameron type deal but it isn't. But if any of the coaches need to go, its Nolan. So far his defense equals our special teams of either last year or the year before when they were absolutely horrible.

Stop comparing him to Ryan Leaf. Ryan Leaf failed because he was a complete headcase with no work ethic, no brains, no heart, and no desire. There were major question marks about Leaf because of those very issues when he came out. Luck doesn't have those problems. He might not turn out to be an all pro, but I don't think it's going to be because he's a ****ing idiot like Ryan Leaf.

Touche. However he signed Sparano to an extension after that to make amends I guess. I'd be interested to know how long Ireland is signed for, because he might be on the hotseat for some of the busts hes brought here the past few years. IMO hes brought more busts than legit talent to our team than anything.

Agreed I used a bad example but possibly with the same outcome. He could come out to be the next Marino.... or he could be the next Jamarcus Russell or even Brady Quinn had all that hype surrounding them. I just don't think at this point you clean house when we DO have somewhat of a foundation here now. Like I said we're a couple plays from being .500 or above right now against some pretty good football teams. A couple personnel moves and I think we got it.

the dolphins have no shot at the playoffs
if the dolphins would have won one of these 1st four games
id have some hope for them but no this team is built to lose..
Breaking even the rest of the way nothing to gain..

He signed Tony to that extension to try to save face because all of the media attention once we lost out on a new coach. Ireland's status is up in the air I think. From all reports he has only had full control of one draft. The rumor was Tuna wanted Long and Jeff wanted Ryan.

He can't be right now because he's in prison in Nevada for armed robbery.
