I completely agree with what Ross said. I know it wasn't the popular 'view' around here but I think its the right one. He could be blowing smoke up all our ***** but I don't think so, because what he said is true. The best teams in football have been together for a long time. Swapping regimes really doesn't get you anywhere and if anything it sets you back further in the long run. I could be wrong but I don't believe that theres a coach that has won 2 super bowls with 2 different teams. Lets take a look at the teams that have been perennial playoff teams for the past 5 years(source wikipedia):
06-07 Playoffs
Seed AFC NFC
07-08 Playoffs

08-09 Playoffs

09-10 Playoffs

10-11 Playoffs

With the exception of a couple teams the majority of the teams that are constantly in the playoffs are the ones that have a system in place, a good core of players that have been with the team for a while, and the coaching staff. Teams like Pittsburgh, New England, Indy, GB and Philly have this. Those teams have also had their fair share of bad seasons prior to making these playoff pushes. What im trying to get at is change isnt always good. These teams listed have changed minimally over the years. If said team changed head coaches, the system is still intact. Take Pittsburgh for example.
The Dolphins have the talent and we are a couple plays from being a .500 team or possibly better. I know we're sitting at 0-4 right now and those on the 'suck for luck' bandwagon disgust me and should go be a fan for another team. Who would possibly want their team that they pull for week end and week out suck it up just to draft an unproven QB. Ridiculous if you ask me. If I were Ross calling the shots I would do this:
1. New defensive coordinator. I know this isn't the popular belief but our defense is the worst in the league. Nolan for the past 2 years has done nothing to improve the players that hes got. I think he lost his mojo when he left Baltimore. Hasn't really done anything since then. Our corners can't guard anything, our LBs and CBs seem to be out of place. Sometimes the playcalling is questionable. Such as the blitz against NE when they were backed up on the 1 and gave up a 99 yd TD. Or when you have been getting pressure on the QB you stop dialing up the blitz and play a prevent defense which allows the other team to throw underneath all day and forces the offense to play catchup.
2. This relates to #1 but we need the players on D also. Bell is getting up there in age as is JT. Both need to be replaced at some point so the young guy can learn from them 2. Also help on the o line and a pass catching TE. Someone who will run the seams like an Olsen for example.
3. A veteran QB. I know this is a touchy subject. This site is split on Henne supporters and suck for luck turds. Me I am a Henne supporter, however I am not against bringing a LEGIT vet in to compete. When I say LEGIT I dont mean Matt f'ing Moore. Someone like a Pennington or Hasselbeck along those lines. IMO Henne isn't the problem this year. Its our defense, redzone offense and WRs dropping passes which ties into the redzone offense. Henne has made some horrible decisions this year but hes also made some great ones.
4. We need to either target in the draft or FA some bulk on the o line. Henne is getting murdered back there. 3 steps and dead. Our right side of the line doesn't exist. We might as well not even list on the depth chart a RG or RT. The good teams have great lines. The good teams also have good QBs but with no o line a QB can't be good. Ask Tom Brady.
Other than that I wouldn't change a thing. I like how our offense is actually going after defenses and making them adjust. We just need to work at it and polish some things such as our redzone offense. Maybe this bye week they can focus more on those type of drills. Other than our defense and redzone offense this team is almost a complete one.
I kind of went off topic towards the end of this but what im trying to say is the most successful teams in football are the ones thats been together for a while. Sometimes you gotta go thru hell to make it to heaven but it makes it much sweeter when you accomplish it. I don't think I can name a team that has new coaches new everything and is currently successful. Discuss.
