Come on. I know all you guys were just like me yesterday salavating all over the t.v. at the thought of having a defense destroy a quarter back like the saints did to Favre! Wow! How great would it be to have a D like that or the jets or the Ravens? Here is hoping Nolan can make some much needed changes next year!

Yeah, and think about how much that has to do with defensive scheming. Greg Williams does a great job for them. If we can inject some talent at ILB, SOLB, and FS, Mike Nolan COULD make us into a defense like that. One can only hope McClain is there at #12.

I honestly don't think I would put New Orleans anywhere close to the top five defenses in the NFL. The Ravens, Steelers, Chargers, Minnesota and Jets all have better defenses. What the Saints have is guys like Sharper who are opportunistic at getting turnovers, but you don't see the Saints really shutting teams down. They win by outscoring other teams.

yeah, it seems we lack in the "take away" department.
I want a nasty gritty D that gets after the QB all day long.

Look at the Colts, the commentator said himself, with a new scheme this defense has become so much better than pervious years and honestly they haven't added THAT much talent...Bethea looked like Sanders out there.

They ranked 25th in YA and PA. YA and PA are not the only aspects of a defense. Greg Williams has made all of those players ball hawks. They were 3rd in INT's and 3rd in FF's.

Mike and Mike were talking this morning about how it's going to be a Super Bowl like we have never seen, talking about how bad both defenses were. It's pretty sad that even these analysts don't look a little deeper into the #'s. It's sad that they don't consider Turnovers an important part of a defense.

Regardless, their defense is not one that will shut down an opposing team but they will definitely cause TO's and sometimes that's more important, especially with an offense that is very hard to stop.

Yea and apparently the Colts **** defense that allowed 20 points over two playoff games isn't any good either.

I guess not allowing the opposing team to score is vastly overrated.

Saints statistically aren't great, but they got turnovers. They had some injuries in the secondary, but Vilma is a very good LB, and Will Smith has been one of the most consistent DEs since coming into the league. They could use upgrades over Fujita and Shanle, but the pieces are there.

Saints have a dominating D? News to me. They're good at forcing turnovers which is a good thing because if they hadn't forced a ton of turnovers the Vikings would've put up 40+ on them. Their D is mediocre.

...

You do know we were 3rd in the NFL in sacks this year...right?

The Saints don't have a dominating defense, hell they are 25th overall in the NFL. I understand you mean "oh, we should cause turnovers and create havoc", we actually did this year, people just have selective memory. We need a Darren Sharper kind of player added to this team, we have enough guys who can get to the QB.

The saints defense is good at feeding off other teams mistakes but they are no where near dominating. They gave up nearly 500 yards yesterday. I'll tell you who does have a very underated defense is the colts. Speed all over the place on that defense. Earl Thomas or Rolando Mcclain would really pretty some much needed speed to the middle of our defense.

Saints are far from a great defense. I'd like to have a defense like the JESTS. No thanks on the Saints.

While the Saints D is better than it has been, it still isn't very good. They gave up 475 yards in the game yesterday. They got 5 turnovers, but 4 of them were because either the vikings couldn't hold onto the ball or threw right to the defender. They capitalized all season on the fact that other teams had to throw to try and keep up with Brees and company. They blitz and ball-hawk and got lucky more than not this year. But I don't recall too many 14-10 games from them this year. I think we'd be better to try and pattern ourselves after a Pitt or Baltimore instead. I think you will see how vulnerable the Saints D really is when Manning (who doesn't make a lot of mistakes) picks them apart in a couple weeks.
