How did this guy fall to the seventh round?

I think it is a combination of things:
1. The RB position has been devalued in the NFL(which I think is a mistake)
2. He is a small back at 5'9" 191lbs. so people have durability concerns( although it didn't seem to hurt too much in college as he was a high snap back who hasn't shown any issues with injury, thanks in part to knowing how to take on contact.)
3. There are concerns that he doesn't have that second level speed(but he has burst to get through the hole and get to the second level. He kind of reminds of James Stewart who played with the Lions years ago. Same concerns, but you know what, all the guy did was get 4yds/carry and move the chains.)

This guy should have been drafted higher and I think we got a steal.

I don't know why people are comparing him to Warrick Dunn and Darren Sproles.

Isn't he like over 5'9" tall, and 205 pounds?

Why not compare him to Gerald McNeil (the Ice Cube)?

His size is more comparable to Barry Sanders, LaDainian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, Thurman Thomas, Priest Holmes,

I only mentioned Sproles name as an example of a smallish RB having success and durability.

But you're right in that Gaskin is bigger and probably more comparable to some of the names you listed.

It crazy when you think about the Patriots and using players like J.White, D.Lewis and Danny Woodhead. Those guys were are easily some of the smaller backs in the league and then they would have the other spectrum of guys like L.Blount on the roster.

Not as dynamic as Lewis but more dynamic than White - his vision/instincts and ability as a receiver are his most attractive traits imo, and those sync up well with how NE uses their RB's.

stupid question perhaps. How does Gaskin compare to Lindsey? When i watch Gaskin I see superb vision and I believe that s what made Lindsey so good

But i think Cox has shown a good receiving ability as well. So he can be a swiss army knife and run, catch or block

Exactly. This kid is a legit football player and IMO a high probability
to see some action right away. He fits the "spec" they're looking for
and his presence will help the run game, pass pro as well as our
short pass game / outlet stuff.

I'm very optimistic right now and believe we scored BIG in R7.
And I think we also scored BIG in UDFA.

This kid is 191lbs, same size as Pat White and just 1 pound heavier when White played for the Dolphins. I just don't see how he will last in the NFL with his frame playing Running back. We will see how it goes!!!

That's why it's important to remember Washington used Gaskin as their bell cow and pounded him in every aspect of the running game. He actually led the country in rush attempts once or twice and did that no history of significant injury or wear and tear.

Warrick Dunn was 5'8 187. Devonta Freeman is 5'8 205. Philip Lindsay transitioned from the Pac 12 to the NFL last year at 5'9 190 and had a very good rookie year. I've seen Gaskin listed as light as 190 pounds and as heavy as 205.

I'm not a college guy, but I've heard other fans say he is the best rb to ever come out of Washington.

Looks very tough on contact ala Warrick Dunn. If he can pass protect, then he might get the most touches of all.

Definitely has that Ajayi-ish nose for the end zone.

I don't know about best out of Washington. I can think of Napoleon Kaufman, who gave the Canes fits and was a first round pick. Good NFL career with the Raiders.

Overall in this thread I'd say Gaskin is being compared to players who are simply better than he is. Maybe James White is on similar level. I think White is more smooth and clever while Gaskin is tougher and more active.

You have to be kiddin about Kaufman. Nice RB but nowhere near as quick twitched or possessing the vision of Gaskin. Certainly, he's faster overall.

His runs do remind me of Warrick Dunn. Scrappy, good nose for the hole, can bounce off contact. Not sure how he fits in to the scheme, but he does come off as very “New Englandish” in terms of his potential versatility.

His vision, and "patience" do appear to be top level. The reality is, he will likely see a lighter work load here, than he did at Washington.

I can almost guarantee that his 191 is a lot more durable than Whites 190. Can’t base it just off weight

Beating out ballage for a top 2 role not out of the question

I could care less about the size other than maybe some reservations about inside run game ask and some protection questions that need camp answers
