Myth about the offense being dink and dunk.

Problem is when Miami does it Miami doesn’t have the blocking to handle it.

Talent problem.

The team has the blocking to handle it, but when you're down 20-some-odd to zero in the third quarter or beyond, and the whole world knows you have to pass, don't be surprised if your blocking breaks down.

The team simply has to start scoring earlier in games.

If we had the percentage for 5 yards or less we'd be at 98% though. And that's a highly conservative estimate!

Whatever we're currently doing has to be blown up. It doesn't work.

Heck we dink and dunk it on 3rd and 15.
I think we pretty much do that b/c there's no way we'll have the protection time to throw a deeper route. We'll either most likely loss 10 yards with a sack or get an INT.

Not scoring very many points, pretty obvious i think. I guess you like the current state of the fins? I think they're lucky to be third best out of 4 in afc east. I expect much better.

Coinicidence most of the mediocre to bad teams throw behind the sticks on 3rd down and the good teams throw past the sticks on 3rd down?

I wish we had the percentage of on third down throwing a pass short of the sticks and hoping the receiver gets the YAC for a first.

You can tinker around on this site to get an idea. Cutler is below the league average in terms of how far downfield he throws in relation to the sticks, but not near the absolute bottom. Three tenths of a yard more conservative than Tannehill last year. This is all throws, not merely third down. Younger quarterbacks are generally the most aggressive and it holds up with Winston first and Watson second in this category currently.

Lots of stuff at that site. I don't look at it often enough to make declarations on what is most significant. Cutler's CAY is not very good. That is average air yards per completion on passes thrown beyond the line of scrimmage. Cutler is 5.6 compared to 6.5 for Tannehill in 2016. Rodgers is very low on that stat this year as well, but Flacco is ridiculous at 4.5
