I don't even consider Nascar as an existance.

It depends on your definition of a sport. I say yes, personally. It's competitive, it requires some athletic-type skill and requires a lot of practice to get really good. To me, that's a sport.

However, I am perfectly okay with people who want to say that auto racing isn't a sport, so long as they limit the definition of "sport" to football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, track and field, wrestling (amateur, not WWE) and boxing. Those sports take an insane combination of strength, size, speed, agility, endurance and dexterity to be successful. Auto racing, by my count, requires two of those: endurance and dexterity. (I'd submit that race car drivers need more dexterity than any other sport, unless you count a goaltender in hockey.)

However, to call things like golf and bowling sports and say that auto racing isn't is downright ridiculous. Golf and bowling require dexterity and...uh, that's about it. I don't even know what athletic attributes are required for fishing.

To be fair, I dont consider golf or bowling to be sports either.

I think if you call racing a sport then you could make a case that competitive eating is also a sport...

Most definitely. For anyone to claim otherwise is pure ignorance

Pure ignorance of the sport. Most people see NASCAR in black and white: Cars that go around a circle for 3 hours, the fastest car wins. They do not take into account the team work, preparation, endurance, athleticism, intelligance, stress, and many other variables.

Its a sport , although not to my liking. Dont see the point of driving cars round and round and round and round (ad inifitum)

I say no because the primary mode of competition is the car that you build rather than an athletic action.
