When was the last time he played three positions in a game?
"Never."
When was the last time he played center?
"Never in a game before."
Except that wasn't exactly true.
"Well, there were two snaps in junior high. Just to see if I could do it."
Thursday, Nate Garner did it.

I hate to say it, but I have to. I think Smiley is being challenged big time for his job. It was clear with Miami going with Garner over a healthy Smiley. Would not surprise me to see Smiley benched, and it is super wierd cause I think Justin is our best lineman.

Seems Garner is ok. Grove looked ready to come in & Berger also came in. Hope Ferguson is not out for the season.

Smiley is clearly not healthy, that guy is our best lineman hands down, Jake Long is very very close behind and gaining, he is really IMPROVING.

Trust Me I love Smiley. I know he is out best Lineman, but Miami has found his replacement if & when he is done. Garner next to Long like the Twin Towers & he is not only good at run blocking the kid thrives at pass protection. Love our depth.

Berger diserves love as well. He was the center on the Ricky 47 yard run for the winning TD.

Smiley is NOT our best linemen . . . I mean geez. U put Jake Long at LG, he is killing people . . . Jake Long is our best Lineman, and that is clear. Yea, some of the best pass rushers will get to him, but he does a solid job in pass pro, and is a beast in the run game.

And honestly, Vernon Carey is our second best linemen. Same thing, u put him at Guard, he is mauling people.

Smiley is our best OG.

I am intrigued by Garner tho, love his flexibility on this line.

Smiley has been pretty average this season - nowhere near as good as he was last season. Maybe injuries have taken their toll. I think they are trying to spark him into playing better by starting with Garner

The strength of our OL this season has been Long, Carey and Grove who have all been playing at close to pro-bowl level

the oline really stepped it up. i was impressed with how the back ups came in a played. at least we know if one goes down we are good.

Pretty amazing considering the # of fans we had here screaming that we had 0 O-line depth just a couple months ago....

IMO Smiley is at best our 4th best OL. Long and Carey are among the best at their positions, as is Jake Grove. IMO Carey has been the best RT in the entire league this season. Smiley is good, no doubt, but not our best OL IMO.

I was just talking Garner up in another post, I didn't realize there was thread on him until now. I must say, I was impressed with his play last night too. I re-watched the game and focused on him during the first half while he was playing left guard, and he played really well. He was moving people out the holes, he was getting to the second level, and he did well on pass protection too. I was anxious to see how he would hold up at LG, he answered that question.

BTW...I think the thread starter is reading too much into Smiley not starting. I don't think Smiley is a 100%, if he was, he would've been starting. He is still not at full speed, but he is well enough to suit up and play if he had too.
