See anything that surprised you in today's practice sessions?>>Ness locked down 19 for most part. or should it be "loch'ed"?

I talked up Nolan Carroll and now I will talk up Nate Ness. Nate has been a pleasant surprise in camp, credit to CK who wasone of the first to take notice. Ness just keeps making a case to make the roster. He had an outstanding day today. If Nate keeps performing like he has the Fins without a doubt will end up keeping six corners on the roster this year.

It seemed to work wonders for him to move from FS to CB.

Nate Ness is 6'0" 195 and runs a 4.42 in the 40. Good measurables.

Actually he is 6'1 and he has been a stud all of training camp. The NFL is a pass happy league and the Fins have the chance to become one of the deepest teams at corner, to me Ness is a lock to make the roster unless he has some weird downfall.

Nate LockNess. Damn he better succeed with that name :). I really think he'll be a special player for our team.

The problem I have with Ness is that he's going to get destroyed by the double move when he has the face the #1's. He is way too aggressive and jumps routes before they are thrown. A double move will literally destroy him.

It is not like he did good in one preseason game. The kid has been making plays everyday of camp, the only difference was he was being overshadow by Carroll. Now that Carroll has locked himself to a roster spot, Ness has been the new guy to impress. The injury to Allen has also helped him step up.

All these injuries are gonna make some of these roster decisions easier, but the front office is still gonna have to make some tough decisions. I don't see any problem with keeping six defensive backs as long as Ness and Carroll both can contribute on special teams.

Not quite sure why Ness would have to be one to face the #1 WR's of a team.

That will not be a problem as both have competed on special teams. Carroll specifically has played at just about every position on special teams.

I am really high on Nolan, and now Ness is making a push to make the roster. I have an off the wall idea. I know this isn't Madden, but lets look at what we have here. We have an extra CB in a pass happy league where CBs are important. The giants are 4 deep at cb with Webster, Thomas, Ross, and Johnson. They need another CB. They are also really thin at guard, where we also have pretty good depth. They on the other hand have 7 WRs that all are pretty good. They can't keep all of their talent and neither can we.
I would love to work out a trade where we could send one of our backup guards and or Ness or Nolan to the NON-conference giants for Victor Cruz, or even Hagan. Why cut talent when you can get value for it?? Just a thought.

Don't want to give you the bad news, but there is no way in hell the Giants will cut Victor Cruz or trade him. Just like there is no way in hell the Fins trade or cut Ness if he keeps playing like he has in camp and like he did on Saturday. Just be happy we might have one of the deepest secondaries in the league with guys like Nolan & Ness sticking out.

When I went to the scrimmage, I wrote afterwards that the performance of Carroll and Ness made me feel comfortable with the idea of finally getting rid of Jason Allen (even though I thought Allen had good moments). It's funny, you know. Sometimes when I watch a prospect a single word jumps in my head that ends up sticking with me as a condensed version of how I feel about that prospect. With Ryan Matthews this year, it was "balance." With Brandon Graham, "strong."

These words can be overly simplistic but watching Carroll in practice the word was "athlete," because from a body perspective the guy has every tool. The Madden thing has been brought up by two separate posters and it fits. For Ness, the word was "fiesty," because the guy really battles out there in coverage. Unfortunately he was on the far side of the field so it was harder to get a bead on him but I really did like what I saw. And not just sort of. I can't claim to have keyed on him coming out of Arizona so I don't know what the book was on him but I can't see why the guy was undrafted, frankly. Not only does he have the physical tools but he's articulate in interviews and seems to work at it.

Unfortunately this week won't be the best test because the Jaguars are pitifully thin at receiver but nonetheless I'm eager to see him live again with the bullets flying. Sparano's endorsements nonwithstanding I had reservations about Clemons from what I saw from him live that weren't assuaged by the Bucs game, so between him and the other guys this week will be particularly big for the entire secondary. The Bucs are awful and made plays they really shouldn't have. Despite the final score, the Jaguars first unit fell on their faces against the Eagles. I'd like to see a repeat of that this week.

Giants aren't cutting Cruz. Even Rex Ryan said after the game that he has no idea who that #3 is but if the Giants cut him he knows at least one team that'll put him on roster, the Jets.

Blatant tampering as a matter of fact but it'll probably draw no more than an email from the league.
