Navy Golf Club apologizes to Woods

Tiger Woods not only ran into "pettiness heaped upon pettiness" as a kid at Navy Golf Club in Cypress, Calif., he encountered racism, too.

"Part of the problem was some of the members didn't want a young kid running around the place but it was also because of the colour of his skin," said Scott vonEps, who worked in the pro shop at Navy Golf Club.

His early achievements were "against a backdrop of almost daily harassment from a group of club members and employees," writes Lawrence Donegan of the The Guardian.
