NBC Sports: Penny One Of Top 10 Most Underrated Players in NFL

He's currently tied with LaMarr Woodley for the most underrated player - go vote peoples!

I agree with Pennington being on the list, but how in the world can you honostly put Asomugha and Andre Johnson on a list of the "most underrated"? Are you kidding me? If they are underrated, than i would take an entire team full of those type of underrated players.

I think they put Andre in because if you ask the casual fan who are the top WRS...they most likely wont name Andre. Peoples that watch tons of football know Andre is the real deal.

Some questionable inclusions on this list...Andre Johnson? he recognized as one of the top few WR's in the league. Nnamdi Asomugha? He's consistently mentioned as the top CB in the league. Matt Forte? He's a rookie of the year candidate....same for Steve Slaton. how are they underrated? Kevin Boss is overrated IMO. Leon Washington seems to get the proper credit for what he is.

where is James Harrison on this list? Kevin Walter? Owen Daniels? Yeremiah Bell?

I agree with this,

You're casual NFL fan may not have even heard of Andre Johnson and Namdi Asomugha. Instead labeling guys like Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, Randy Moss as top WR's and guys like Champ Bailey as the best corner.

I also agree that Chad Pennington is a very under rated QB. I don't think he's a great player by any means, but people often over look his efficiency and ability to mark smart and effective plays because he rarely has home run type passes and doesn't really put up incredible stats.

If you asked me if who I thought the two most underrated players in the NFL are, they'd be atop that list.

Like someone else said, casual fans don't have a clue who Aso is and some don't really get Andre Johnson's dominance. I mean could anyone imagine the carnage Andre could do with someone like Manning (either) Brees or Brady throwing to him? What really bothers me about Andre is that i know he was a Dolphins fan growing up. I believe he grew up right near Dolphin Stadium. Talk about a pipe dream that could never happen. If he were an a-hole maybe he'd stand a chance of one day leaving Houston but he's not.

Matt Schaub is a good QB.....

He just hasn't been able to stay healthy at times this year. Certainly Andre's season may have been even better had he played with Schaub the full year and not Sage RosenFAILS.

Its hard for me to believe that Schaub's career will be anything special.

We'll see, he's got a good young team surrounding him in Houston. Steve Slaton looks like a player, Andre Johnson of course is fantastic. Schaub has only played 8 games this year but he's completing almost 68 percent of his passes, thats pretty damn "special".

really not a good list IMO. Everybody now pretty much concedes that Asomugha is the best CB in the leauge, he just doesn't get a lot of love because nobody throws at him so he doesn't get INTs. And AJ doesn't get the national attention because he's on a crappy team and isn't a showboat, but most consider him a top ten WR.

The only guy on that list I agree with is Ruud. Slaton and Forte are rookies, and Woodley/Boss are 2nd year guys.

I believe the stat when we played against the Raiders was Asomugha had seen only ELEVEN passes throw his way the entire year. I mean that's really incredible, thats something you'd see with Deion Sanders or Darrell Green in their primes.

David Carr completed OVER 68% of his passes in his last year with Houston. Does that make him `Special` too

Pennington definitely is this team's MVP of the season...he brought stability to the key position we have been lacking it from since Marino. I am from Knoxville, TN, his home town, he is a well respected guy up here...the press....the people love him. I hope that he stays with us for a long time and ends up being our QB coach :)
