OK, so I just read this article ( http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2407318 ) and it made me think. How come tis guy, as with many others, like Cedric Benson etc etc, can get drafted into pro baseball (obviously meaning they are getting an agent AND paid) and still play football in the NCAA yet Jeremy Bloom lost his football elidgeability because he took sponsor money TO PAY FOR HIS TRIP TO THE OLYMPICS? How is taking sponsor/endorsement money to pay for a trip overseas to compete in the olympics (in SKIING nonetheless, doesn't even have anything to do with college sports or the NCAA) grounds for losing your football elidgeability yet a dual-sport NCAA athlete (baseball/football) who enters the MLB draft, gets drafted, and PLAYS in the pros (or even if he doesn't play) meaning he has an agent and gets paid, can still go back to school in the fall and play football?

Being drafted doesnt mean he had an agent at all, infact because he played college football after being drafted shows he didnt. Jeremy Bloom could have continued to be a pro skier, he just had to lose the sponsors. Look at Zbikowski from ND, he is a professional boxer but has no sponsors from it so it is ok. Mike Williams from USC highered an agent and wasnt eligible to return to school to play if you remember that during the hole Clarrette rules challenge.

I found this which explains it better I think. Because I was a little confused about how Zib and Benson could make money off it while Bloom couldnt

The NCAA allows athletes to compete professionally in one sport while maintaining their amateur status in another sport. But Zbikowski, who will be a senior this fall, can't be under contract during football season, or he might lose his scholarship. But he wouldn't lose his eligibility. Coincidentally, there is NCAA legislation up for review regarding whether an athlete in Zbikowski's situation even would lose his scholarship.
''The only issue here is if a company like Everlast wants to sign him to a deal to wear their gloves, he can't do that,'' said Mike Karwoski, Notre Dame's associate athletic director in charge of NCAA compliance. ''That would jeopardize his eligibility.'' And Zbikowski can't endorse verbally a company such as HBO or Top Rank
