For a brief time in January 2015, Adam Gase was looking for a job. The Denver Broncos had just hired Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak to replace John Fox – which meant that Gase, who had been the offensive coordinator on Fox’s staff, was a free agent.

But Gase had already drawn interest from teams. He was a finalist for the San Francisco 49ers' head-coaching vacancy that went to Jim Tomsula and was being courted by the Jacksonville Jaguars to become the offensive coordinator there.

On the night of Jan. 19, Gase flew to Baltimore to interview with Ravens coach John Harbaugh about the team's offensive coordinatior position. It was an opportunity Gase still appreciates.

It was a great experience for me,” the 39-year-old Gase, now the Miami Dolphins' head coach, said Wednesday during a conference call with Baltimore-area reporters. “I really enjoyed being able to talk to Coach Harbaugh. It was a late night, I know that. I really appreciate the fact that he didn’t have to squeeze me in when he did. I think I got to his office at 10 o’clock at night, and we talked until 1 in the morning, and he drove me back to the hotel I was staying at.

"He really did me a favor by just not making me wait, because I was kind of getting pressured as far as making decisions on some other places. So the fact that he did that to at least give me an opportunity to come interview there, that was something I’ll always be appreciative of.

The Ravens hired former Chicago Bearshead coach Marc Trestman to head the offense, and Gase eventually joined Fox, who was hired as head coach by the Chicago Bears. On Jan. 9, he succeeded Dan Campbell as the Dolphins' head coach.
Harbaugh told Miami reporters that he enjoyed his time with Gase.

He came in, and I just feel like we hit it off,” Harbaugh said. “We had a great time talking football philosophy. … It would have been great to be able to bring him here, but I think we knew at the time that he was destined to be a head coach very soon, and obviously, he is doing a great job with that.

This shows how smart John Harbaugh is.....he hires Gase and then he's gone in a year....not good for the Ravens. Trestman, on the other hand, good OC that will not be a head coach again.

They fired Trestman in October. I think it was the wrong move too.

Exactly. You want your coordinators to lack that "it factor" that makes a good HC. Otherwise you risk continuity. VJ will get many HC looks after this year, and deservedly so. For our sake I'm hoping he's deemed to not be head coaching material.

I fear this is what is going to happen to Vance as soon as we clinch a playoff spot his name is being thrown around already in whispers. that is the day we will regret

Joseph has some time to put in before we should begin to worry. He's a first time coordinator still in his first year with a defense that isn't exactly leading the league. I like the guy, too, but what bout his resume screams head coach right now?

Gotta love us having a coach that is so respected all around the league. And thank the Lord Almighty that decades of torture led to us somehow stumbling into the 2nd great Dolphins coach.

I heard that Rex tried to get Gase to come in for a late night Netflix and Chill but Gase quickly shot him down and Rex was forced to go home to his wife.

Here's to the GASE Coaching Tree! May it be Long & Prosperous!:brewskis:

I don't know that I totally disagree with you, however I can't ignore the mountain of evidence I see historically. Take a snapshot in time of the 1988 San Francisco 49'ers coaching tree. Walsh has Holmgrem and Dennis Green as assistants, and Seifert's his coordinator. After Seifert takes over, he will later have Jon Gruden as an assistant coach. This is just one team and one example, as I've seen it in other coaching trees of successful organizations. Build a high caliber organization and you will likely see a stream of great coaches pass through the organization. Of course, it probably hurts a little to see the Holmgrems and Grudens in superbowls for other teams, but it's the right pedigree of coaches that were coming out of that 49'ers organization.

Perhaps Detroit has a good thing going with Cooter - doing great at OC, but the sneaking in some woman's window story may keep him off some HC lists.

Then again, I know I snuck in a few girl's windows in my younger years - I guess that whole "consent" think makes a difference.....

The title of this thread reads like a tabloid headline until you get to the word "interview".
