I was not able to watch the game, but I listened on the radio and followed on Gamecenter. What happened with the Zach Thomas call at the end of the half. I heard he was trying to shift the D and was called for unsportsmanlike conduct. Someone tell me exactly what happened and what he did wrong? Ive never seen someone get penalized for shifting your D.

I watched the game at a bar without sound and still couldn't figure it out?

supposedly he yelled something to the extent of "shift" real loud, which "drew" the offense offsides....which is a penalty now....i guess...???

i thought the defense could yell whatever they wanted...thats a BS call...he didnt flinch at the line and yell, he just yelled so his defense of line could hear which makes sence considering the crowd was very loud during a field goal try...

whatever...im so pissed, i dont care

I saw it...they called him because when he called the shift, it drew the offenive line of green bay off and caused them to false start so he was called for causing the o-line to move before the ball was snapped...a personal 15 yarder...One of the biggest bu*****t calls I have ever seen

The penalty was put in to prevent defensive players from mimmicking the snap count and forcing a false start. Shouting "Shift" should never have drawn a flag...unless Zach has such a severe speech impediment that "SHIFT" sounds like "HUT"

But to clarify...the penalty was for the shout, not the actual shift.

How do we know he yelled shift? I was listening to the game on radio so not sure if TV showed something

he yelled shift...I watched it and they replyed it with game sound on the ticket...so now apparently the defense cant call an audible befroe they snap unless our is going to each and every player and whispering in there ear...Ray Panella (The loser VP of reffing who sounds like the Drew Rosenhous interview everyweek on NFL total access every week) is ruining this game...Fire him..Not Saban

When Thomas was penalized, it was for "unsportsmanlike conduct." So I'm guessing some zebra heard him say "shift" and thought he said sh*t, meaning he was trash-talking the Packers.

I believe it was Allen who also hurt some Packer's guy's feelings by telling him what he thought of him after a tackle, and of course we get hit with an unsportsmanlike penalty to give the Packers a first down. Too bad you are not allowed to open your mouth on the field anymore. Bunch of B.S.

The refs are a joke. I was watching the Falcons/Steelers game and there was a BS call on a FG that Atlanta made. The ball was already snapped and somehow the Steelers got the timeout anyway. Thank goodness the Falcons won.

no, they specifically said the penalty was for drawing the offense into a false start. A defensive player can't intentionally mimick the snap count to draw the offense offsides. Thats what the ref said ZT was doing, but it is BS.

thanks for the explanation, and I was not aware that the D could not yell to your teamates. How the else are they suppose to communicate...Hand signals?? Give me a break its football game, are they going to penalize the crowd for shouting? then why the players?

I specifically remember an unsportsmanlike conduct call, with the "drawing the offense into a false start" the zebra-explained effect of Thomas' supposed unsportsmanlike conduct.

Total idiot call.
