Jacksonville Jaguars: Team Roster
- New players in BOLD
Quarterbacks:
- Leftwich, Bryan $545,000
- Garrard, David $1,000,000
- Favre, Brett $2,600,000 **Free Agent**
- Leftwich, Bryan $545,000
- Garrard, David $1,000,000
- Favre, Brett $2,600,000 **Free Agent**
Total- $4,145,000
Overview: The starting job is Brett Favre's, no contest. Both Leftwich and Garrard have demonstrated the ability to win but not win consistantly. Brett will bring in a veteran leadership that the offensive side of the ball has been lacking. Leftwich and Garrard are both still young enough to learn and adjust their game under Brett's guidance. They will battle it out in training camp for the #2 QB gig. Each could possibly be used as trade bait if any training camp injuries begin to pile up around the league.
Runningbacks:
- Anderson, Mike $1,200,000 **Trade**
- Jones-Drew, Maurice $360,000
- Toefield , LaBrandon $300,000 **Re-signed**
- Mungro, James $300,000 **Free Agent**
- Anderson, Mike $1,200,000 **Trade**
- Jones-Drew, Maurice $360,000
- Toefield , LaBrandon $300,000 **Re-signed**
- Mungro, James $300,000 **Free Agent**
Total- $2,160,000
Overview: Maurice Jones-Drew demonstrated his ability to be a big time playmaker for this Jacksonville team and now the show is all his. Without Fred Taylor, Jones-Drew will be expected to shoulder the full load of the season and the Jags front office feels he is more than capable of doing so. Mike Anderson has also been brought in. He will shift back to fullback, where the Jags feel he is more affective but he will also see some carries at tailback as well. James Mungro and LaBrandon Toefield also bring veteran depth to the position as well.
Wide Receivers:
- Williams, Reggie $510,000
- Bennett, Drew $4,000,000 **Free Agent**
- Moorehead, Aaron $300,000 **Free Agent**
- Ginn Jr., Ted $600,000 **Draft**
- Williams, Reggie $510,000
- Bennett, Drew $4,000,000 **Free Agent**
- Moorehead, Aaron $300,000 **Free Agent**
- Ginn Jr., Ted $600,000 **Draft**
Total- $5,410,000
Overview: The Jaguars wanted to get faster in the wide receiver department and they have achieved their goal. Speedster Drew Bennett was brought in via free agency and will immediatly step into the #1 WR role. His speed and big play ability should provide an excellent deep threat for Brett Favre. Reggie Williams also returns as the Jags #2 WR and expect his numbers to dramatically increase from his 600+ yrds and 4 TDs of last year. Aaron Moorehead joins the team after departing the Colts
but will more than likely fill the same role on this team as he did in Indianapolis. But perhaps the greatest addition to the WRing core was the drafting of Ted Ginn Jr. in the first round of this years NFL draft. His blazing speed and ability to break the field wide open make him the pefect slot receiver for Brett Favre. Ginn will also be taking over the KR/PR duties for Jones-Drew.
Tight Ends:
- Lewis, Marcedes $360,000
- Wrighster, George $1,250,000
- Heller, Will $300,000 **Free Agent**- Lewis, Marcedes $360,000
- Wrighster, George $1,250,000
Total- $1,910,000
Overview: George Wrighster showed the Jags last year that he was a decent stop gap at TE by catching 3 TDs and just over 350 yds. But big 6'6 Marcedes Lewis was not drafted last year to sit on the bench. The Jags expect him to win the starting job outright in training camp and he should prove to be an excellent target for Favre in the red zone. But both TEs will be utilized as Jacksonville loves to use 2 TE sets. Will Heller was also brought in from Seattle to provide some depth.
Offensive Tackles:
- Barnes, Khalif $435,000
- Gibbons, Ryan $285,000
- McMahon, Pete $285,000
- Williams, Maurice $3,500,000
- Barnes, Khalif $435,000
- Gibbons, Ryan $285,000
- McMahon, Pete $285,000
- Williams, Maurice $3,500,000
Total- $4,505,000
Overview: Twin 6'5 tackles Khalif Barnes and Maurice Williams return to anchor a steadly improving Jags o-line. This group has been kept intact from last year as the Jags did not feel the need to add or subtract from this group of core players.
Offensive Guards:
- Naeole, Chris $1,800,000
- Manuwai, Vince $3,800,000 **Re-signed**
- Beekman, Josh $450,000 **Draft**
- Jones, Mike $300,000 **Draft**
- Naeole, Chris $1,800,000
- Manuwai, Vince $3,800,000 **Re-signed**
- Beekman, Josh $450,000 **Draft**
- Jones, Mike $300,000 **Draft**
Total- $6,350,000
Overview: The Jags accomplished one of their main goals of the off-season by resigning one of the top guards in the league in Vince Manuwai. Combined with Khalif Barnes, they make the left side of this Jags offensive line a solid force. Veteran Chris Naeole will feel some added pressure in training camp this year as the jags have drafted Josh Beekman out of Doston College, to compete for the starting job along side Manuwai. Mike Jones was also drafted out of Iowa and figures to be more of a project player. But at 6'5 and +300lbs. he could develop into a solid player in the NFL.
Offensive Center:
- Meester, Brad $2,050,000
- Connolly, Dan $360,000- Meester, Brad $2,050,000
Total- $2,410,000
Overview: Brad Meester returns to his starting gig from a year ago but the veteran out of Northern Iowa migth feel a little pressure in training camp. Josh Beekman, projected as a guard in the NFL, could possibly make the transition to center. Beekman played some games at center in his college career and if the Jags front office feels he is ready to make an impact, they may plug him in at center as the season rolls on.
