new safety rules

I hate the NEW TOm Brady rule. If a player is going to the ground they should be able to try and make a play instead of having to get up and then make a play. I think that these types of rules are killing the game. I hate to see anyone hurt, includeing Tommy Boy but let them play!!!

I totally agree.

im thinkin of going to try out nopw since its becoming two hand touch football. I really despise Roger Giddell.

This is football its brutal mans sport!! If Walter Camp could see some of these rules, he would be totally ashamed!!

They are killing this sport.

I do agree that players need some protection, and these new rules by themselves arent that bad.

However, combined with all the other no-contact type rules they are horrible.

I am fine with the "Blind-side Block" rule. Sticking your hat/shoulder/forearm to someones head and neck is cheap. There is no reason they can't block below the neck, in fact, blind side or not, I have a hard time thinking of a reason to block or tackle anyone above the neck.

The second rule, hitting the head of a defenseless reciever may be more problematic. While I'm sure most would agree, a cheap shot to the head is trash, it may be hard to make these calls. Who is to say the defender wasnt making a play on the ball (which often times is caught near the head), and comes down on a receiver's helmet? When exactly is a receiver defenseless? Too many questions and subjective determinations here.

The kicking rules are a joke. No more than 2 men to form a blocking wedge? What are the other 8 guys supposed to do on the play? Stand around with their thumbs up their *****? What if a player inadvertently runs close to the 2-man formation? Is that a penalty?

I understand special teams is the fastest and most dangerous part of the game. I think there does need to be more protection for ST players, but I am not sure how this one is going to play out.

The 5 man limit on onside kicks seems ok to me, as long as the other team can't stack more than 5 opposite them. (Problem is the second part of my statement is missing from the rule)

I could tolerate the "Tom Brady" rule if they would ease up on the late hit calls and tighten up on the offensive holding calls. The highest risk of injury to a QB is the head and below and including the knees.

Unfortunately, as we saw last year, close or bad calls can have a big impact on a game (15 yard penalties are a backbreaker). It makes pass rushers more cautious, slowing them down and in effect, giving the QB more time in the pocket.

As a side note, other than Joe Namath, has there been another QB that has had more rules created by the league than Tom Brady?

At the rate we are going NFL scores are going to look like NBA scores in 10 years.

Why don't we just put flags on the QB and the defender has to grab them? This is freakin' ridiculous! Let's hear it once again for the idiot management of the No Fun League. Or in this case the decision makers that are going to officiate this game to point of absurdity. I guess RBs are not as important as the WRs and QBs. You can still lay a RB out, but God forbid playing physical with the "pretty boys" of the NFL. I guess it is still alright to cut block a DT and possibily end his career, but it would be a travestry if Peyton Manning got tripped up before making a 1st down. If Joey Porter gets blocked to the ground, then he has to sit and watch the QB run away. Are kidding me! I've got an idea. Why don't we just put flags on everyone and hasten the inevitable.

Mike Pereira is a bafoon. It sickens me everytime I see him on NFL Network. How in the H-E-Double Chopsticks did this guy ever get to be head off officiating. Goddell should just stand behind with his hand in his back because Pereira is just a puppet for the commissioner's office. God, I wish Rozelle was still alive.

I totally disagree. Every other player(RB, WR, TE, a CB on an int, KR, PR) I can tackle in the legs, but not the QB. This is ridiculous! There are already rules against hitting a player in the head.- And by the way, the officials are like trained baboons when it comes penalties for blows to the head. I remember in a game JT was rushing the passer(I can't remember who we were playing)and as the QB is going to pass, he raises his arms for the block. Well, the pass goes by and his hands come down and lightly fall against the QBs helmet. You know what happened next-15 yards. These automatons have to use some independent judgement.-There is no need for another penalty. If the aforementioned postions other than a QB get a leg injury it is alright, but not a QB? Are you kidding me! Are not QBs classified as football players or do they fall in some other category?

So basically its ok to turn this game into something more safe is the vibe I am getting from a few of you. My opinion, the "stars" should not get any diffrent rules then the Eric Waldens and Larry Izzos of the game. No lunging at the QB's when your on the ground? Are you kidding me, hell when I played if I slipped coming around the edge I could usually dive from my knees and get the QB down and my couch considered that "Not giving up on the play".

If these superstars get injured TOUGH. Welcome to football ladies. Its now time for your backups to prove you really have a good team in depth, not just your "stars". Thats what the game was all about TEAM.

Im not going to start on the WR topic because Wes Welker got destoryed last year by that Pittsburg DB.

Why does it seem like the Patriots were all the prime examples of what these rules changed defend....:rolleyes2:

Beacuse they didnt win the superbowl in the last 3 years and did not even make the playoffs. Sooner or later might as well change the name of the NFL to the New England Patriots and other 31 team league. It is disgusting what they are doing. Whats next the DL are going to have to give 5yrds to the offense.?

Maybe Mark Cuban and a few other rich guys can create another football league so the game can go back to what is was: FOOTBALL.

If I wanted to watch two hand touch football I would sign up for some park and rec league football.

I am going to e-mail Roger Goodell, and I hope many of you will also express your disgust with the rule changes: Roger.Goodell2@nfl.net

First The Tuck Rule Now This. Whats Next Your Not Allowed To Sack Just Tom Brady. Wtf?

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9372190/NFL-passes-four-new-player-safety-rules

the big thing is any kind of initial blow being made to WRs being a 15 yard penalty and also between lineman if a blindside initial blow is made to the head is a 15 yard penalty. players can't wedge together in groups on kick offs anymore either

Ruining the game AGAIN!

Too many rules.

And I am against instant replay too. For all of the fanfare about it the refs get the calls wrong anyways.

Football was better when a fumble was a fumble, a catch was a catch and a hit was hit!
