Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports sources with knowledge of the situation have told the paper the New York Jets have notified DE John Abraham's representatives that the team will once again name him their franchise player. Abraham will earn $8.3 million next season. Even though the Jets will tag Abraham, they may still try to trade him, with San Diego, Washington, Cleveland and Houston possible destinations.

Jets | Some think Pennington should be released
Fri, 17 Feb 2006 05:32:35 -0800
Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports there are rumblings within the New York Jets organization about whether the Jets should keep QB Chad Pennington at all. Two members of the Jets' offense told The Post they believe the Jets should release Pennington. "I think we should release him; he's too injury-prone," one player said. "He's like an egg back there," another player said, referring to Pennington's fragility. "I mean, look at the ways he's gotten hurt. He hasn't even been hit that hard. The injuries have come from awkward hits and falls. I think we should just cut him."

Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports the New York Jets have confirmed they will release CB Ty Law shortly, thus exonerating themselves of the $11 million payment that would trigger Law's contract into effect this season and beyond, and letting him become a free agent again.

Ken Berger, of Newsday, reports the New York Jets have fired vice president of operations Mike Kensil. Kensil, the son of late Jets president Jim Kensil, spent 29 years with the team.

Jets | Mawae will apparently refuse pay cut
Fri, 17 Feb 2006 05:27:31 -0800
Ken Berger, of Newsday, reports New York Jets OC Kevin Mawae, coming off surgery to repair a torn left triceps, apparently will refuse to take a pay cut and will ask the Jets to release him if they can't handle his projected $4.5 million cap figure.

Jets | Pennington declines pay cut
Fri, 17 Feb 2006 05:23:48 -0800
Ken Berger, of Newsday, reports New York Jets QB Chad Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, has rejected the Jets' proposal to slash the injured quarterback's base salary for 2006 to $1 million and force him to earn the remaining $8 million he is owed through incentives. The Jets have until Mar. 3 to decide if they can live with Pennington's current contract, negotiate a cap reduction or release him. The quarterback is due a $3 million roster bonus Mar. 3.

:sidelol:  :sidelol:

Do you think we have a chance at all of getting Mawae? Ty Law has already been mentioned as a possibility. The Jets are wreck and may get worse before they get better, which may take years.

Anytime you ask your starting quarterback and center to take paycuts, but throw more money at a defensive end, who doesn't want to be there is always a great move!

Curtis Martin has also been mentioned as possibly getting cut.

If the Jets were smart they would get rid of Mawae, Pennington and Law and trade Abraham.

Take the salary cap hit and get younger, cheaper, and better through the draft and free agency.

We know that won't happen

Mawae at Center for the Phins would be the ultimate way to pi$$ off the Jets....lets do it. :D He has some years left in him.
