I took an unbiased perspective and thought with the "BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE" attitude rather than who I personally want... so heres my ideas

Number one pick... equals best player in the draft.. that would have to go to
1-CHRIS LONG- we're set at OLB for years and can HOPEFULLY trade JT for more picks
Reasons for NOT picking these guys...
Matt Ryan- top QB in THIS years draft, but top prospect in a average QB class doesnt mean you're worthy of #1
Vernan Gholston- takes too many plays off, hes a giant tho for sure
Jake Long-Deep class of OTs, we can get one later

So 1st pick was the easy part, it all goes down hill from here.. here's where the "wtfs" come from the readers... but remember "BPA"

2A- Dan Connor- First rounder than will slide to the 2nd... ILB, undersized for a 3-4 but 1 name for u.. Zach Thomas... for some reason, Connors stock has been dropping like cuuurazy.. he comes from Linebacker University in Penn State...Should start immediately ahead of Reggie Torbor

Reasons for NOT picking these guys...
Brian Brohm- probably will be gone, but if not, I'd consider him, but in the end, We got Beck with a 2nd round pick so lets give the guy a chance
Carl Nicks- Mike Mayock agrees with my thinking... might be a tad bit slow on his feet to be a LT, and might have to move inside
Sam Baker-Similar guy We can get later on

Prolly the hardest pick in the draft... Fins need another QB, WR, TE, OT, DB, DE so this was tough but in the end I picked this guy based on the BPA method.

...Our last chance to take a quality OT in the draft
2B-Anthony Collins- Could've taken Sam Baker in the earlier 2nd pick, but this guy is good, IMO a steal to last this long and atleast we filled out another need earlier instead of grabbing Baker

Round 3...So now using a little bit more need, and less BPA..We desperately need a slot guy unless you want Hagan in that spot.
Jordy Nelson- the guy has insane heart and will do anything to get that extra yard... Hes the perfect slot receiver as hes not afraid to go over the middle and he's more quick than fast. Has been soaring up draft boards.

Round 4- We definitely need a pass-catching TE
Jermichael Finley- TE from Texas... Dont hear this guys name much but the man is a beast... major major major upside..will be one hell of a TE with time... Luckily, he'll have a year to backup, learn and bulk up some behind David Martin

Okay so now we go for needs, and not necessarily BPA to fill the holes. In my opinion, we need a cover corner, and a DE to add depth. Perfect guy falls to us...
With the signing of Josh McCown, It told me that the Fins were NOT going to draft a QB high in this draft. Also With the signing of so many, maybe too many DBs, it also told me that we may have a nice competition in training camp to find the starts so to me, those positions were not so important... but we still need more youth.

Round 6A-
Orlando Scandrick- CB from Boise State... really fast and will eventually make a fast tandem opposite Will Allen

Round 6B (comp.)-
Colt Brennan- late rounds is all about boom or bust.. taking risks and this guy will be really intriguing... Kind of, and I mean really kind of reminds me of Tony Romo so maybe Parcells likes?... Dead-on accurate with sneaky athleticism

Round 7A- Geoff Schwartz- RT/G from Oregon... Massive at 6'6, 330. Big guard, the way Parcells likes it..blocked for 3rd best RB in the draft, Jonathan Stewart
Round 7B (comp.)- Top DE to add depth behind Roth, Holliday, Wright

So in conclusion...
1-Chris Long- DE/OLB Virginina (projected starter- they'll find a way to get him in the game, maybe as a DE on 3rd and long situations?)
2a-Dan Connor- ILB Penn State (projected starter over Torbor)
2b-Anthony Collins-LT Kansas (projected starter, allows Carey back to his natural fit at RT)
3-Jordy Nelson-WR Kansas State (#3 reciever/slot guy, Special Teamer)
4-Jermichael Finley- TE Texas (3rd string behind Martin/Peele, starter next year, Special Teamer)
5-Lost for Trent Green
6A-Orlando Scandrick- CB Boise State (Dime back, starter with time/Special teamer)
6B(comp)-Colt Brennan- QB Hawaii (Long-term Project)
7A-Geoff Shwartz-RT/G Oregon Massive at 6'6-330 Big guard, the way Parcells likes it..blocked for 3rd best RB in the draft, Jonathan Stewart (projected starter at LG)
7B-Top DE Available (Special Teamer)

So let me get this right: We throw a TON of money at C. Long..... And have to FIND a way to get him in the game? In 3rd and long situations?!?! :err:

You mention Conor as undersized for the 3-4, use Thomas as an example of how good a undersized LBacker can be, when Thomas never played extensivly in a 3-4 and was shown the door by BP partly BECAUSE he is undersized for our new system....

You sir, need to go back to bed. :(

hahaha ummm buddy... the guys ahead of chris long would be none other than Jason Taylor whos the highest paid player on the Fins and is oh ya, extremely talented so ya dont think Longs taking his spot... and Porter on the other side, with his 20 million guaranteed+ more money comin his way, plus he was finally coming into his own, ya i doubt Long gets ahead of him on the depth chart either.. so where smart guy would Long be plugged in to play every down? ;)
And as for ZT, its quite obvious Parcells wanted nothing more than to get younger and unfortunately by doing this, the older vets need to go... if it was all about size, crowder would be gone, along with half our Oline, and thats just what i can think of off the top of my head
you my friend need to learn your team

oh and fins used a hybrid 3-4 the past couple of years with Saban, then Capers and Thomas's play didnt diminish one bit ..so size had nothing to do with it ;)

So you understand why we won't be draft Chris Long then... Good! :hi5:

Yeah, we used a hybrid 3-4 for part of one year. And you are right, potential HOFer Zach Thomas performed well. That dosent make him not undersized for the position, and is no indication of how any other undersized LB will do in that system.

You have any real analysis on why Conor will do well in a 3-4? Or is it all based off of the fact thet he and ZT are close to the same size?

I agree that from the stand point of "value" that Conor at 32 makes sense, but I just dont think he will do as well in our system.

And when Collins has been selected ahead of us what is your backup plan? We have two excellent OLB's and if we can show this turn around can happen quickly JT will be here for 4-5 years.

If we take J.Long OT 1st, we would have the opportunity to get a stud CB or WR that falls to 32. I'm fine with Conner, he's one of these guys in the C.Long mold at LB.

For some reason you answered our question about where C.Long would fit on this team by telling us behind two great OLB's ??????

I don't like that mock at all...agree that Conner will NOT be drafted by us

Ozzy rules!!

Do you guys freaking realize that Joey Porter is like 31 I think and Jason Taylor is 34. Some people just need to realize that this guy is not going to be here and stop holding on to his JOCKSTRAP. Also you guys do realize he can play 3-4 END for the time being.

Also to the poster, Dan Connor is 6'3 231 which is not undersize for a 3-4 MLB.

Why would we take 2 line backers with the 1st 2 picks?
Jake Long, CB then TE. Next year, we will still be picking in the 1st 5 or 6 I would imagine, James Laurinaitus & Rey Maualaga will be there, and to me, they would be better than Dan Connor.

When will you realize that we have no OT or OG and trying to fill these positions with "maybe this guy will be there or we'll get one later" is asking for our offense to really stink it up next year. I like C.Long as the pick if we trade JT for McKinney but if not 2nd round hopefuls is a poor way to solve big holes on the line.

A voice of reason...heck I'd draft Jake Long, Brandon Alberts, and then Cottham...makes Ronnie better, makes Teddy Ginn better, makes Beck better, and makes Defense overall better 'cause they can rest and not be on the field all the time...The fins have got to move the chains, period. Last year showed what a terrible offence our offense was...especially to our very own injury plagued D! That is the only way to win, you must score points. you cannot win 0-0. We need Jake Long.

Funny. I thought we was leading the NFL in yards from scrimmage and was still 0-7 when Ronnie went down. By all means though you people are right, just look at the SB. That prolific offense made that D wish they were'nt on the feild. Wait somethings wrong there isn't it?:err:
